Incorrect.

UK imports EU oil, which is mixed with Iranian oil.

18% of Iranian oil goes to the EU, after that there is no way of accurately determining where it gets distributed.

It is similar to anti oil sanders in the US. The oil is mixed pre and post refinement (mixing is based on weight, not country of origin), so you would have no actual way of boycotting a specific country's oil unless every production host along the way takes part in the boycott.

Edit to add:

Currently, 30% of UK oil can contain Iranian oil. Everything except what they receive from Norway.

Not incorrect.

More assumptions on your part.

Well I don't know about the UK but I do know the US get's it's foreign oil from Saudi Arabia and supplements with our own oil supply.

Actually the U.S. gets its foreign oil from many places (but not Iran) The top 2 being Canada, and Mexico with SA running a close third

Top 7 Oil Suppliers

Iran can do what it likes with its own oil!

I feel sorry for the Iranian people, the vast majority I should imgaine just want to live their lives and not have to worry about sanctions or possible air raids at any moment or indeed care about the pursuit of a nuclear weapon, if true. I think Israel are in a tough position, if they attack Iran then they risk engulfing the region in to a war that could destroy the entire region, if they leave Iran they could end up with a country that has voiced continual threats of how Israel should be wiped off the map and other such aggressive ideological view points mainly towards Israel, do you really want a nation like that packing nukes? At the same time there has been no indication that Iran is looking to develop Nukes, but do we sit back and see what happens? I think it's easy to be critical and for or against, but this is a very difficult situation to be in. In the future, people may look back and say why didn't people see the writing on the walls, but as with all reflection on historic events, it's easy when you know the outcome!

I think if Iran allows continual inspection and opens all its books and facilities to the IAEA then as long as they are simply moving towards nuclear energy then they have the right to do that, but the inspections need to be constant and detailed. I think the sanctions need to be dropped to reflect this and also for Washington to assist Iran and create a friend rather than a foe, but this is something that does not seem to be on the table.

As for the oil, if sanctions are placed against Iran then why not Iran against those that support the sanctions? At the end of the day, I don't actually think the sanctions are warranted at this time as Iran did allow IAEA inspectors to visit. I also believe that Tehran has openly said that Washington refuses to have talks with them, something that has not been commented on by Washington. To me perhaps the dice is cast for Iran, but my fear is that may be the dice has been cast for the entire region!

By refusing to sell oil to Europe, Iran is making the oil embargo against itself more successful.
So it's really weird -- Iran being so cooperative with EU! Who said Iran and the West can't be friends? The West boycotts oil and Iran says "right on. We aren't selling any".

As stated in another topic, the story i read said they denied it?

IRAN DENIES BANNING OIL EXPORTS TO EU

Underlining the high stakes and at times nervous confusion arising from the nuclear stand-off, Iran's Oil Ministry denied a state media report that it had cut off oil exports to six European Union states. Brent crude oil prices jumped up $1 a barrel to $118.35 in reaction to the announcement.

Not necessarily.

There have been long lingering questions about the actual reserve levels in most ME and OPEC countries.

There was an anomalous increase in reserve estimates in the early 80's.

Iran could know things that we do not.

They could be gambling on those countries failing to meet increased quotas (as promised) if Iran ceases oil production.

That would cause a massive increase in oil prices, making Iran incredibly wealthy overnight.

They have denied it.

The question is really, did they claim than deny to get the market to jump?

For example, Canada made approx $91,750,000 extra today because of that price jump.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iran's Oil Ministry denied state media reports on the Islamic state stopping its crude exports to six European countries on Wednesday.

"We deny this report ... If such a decision is made, it will be announced by Iran's Supreme National Security Council," a spokesman for the ministry told Reuters.

First we place sanctions and ban buying oil from Iran.

Now somebody screams murder when Iran says OK screw-U

from 3 weeks ago .....

European Union foreign ministers have formally adopted an "unprecedented" oil embargo against Iran over its nuclear programme, banning all new oil contracts with the country.

They also agreed a freeze on the assets of Iran's central bank in the EU.

The EU currently buys about 20% of Iran's oil exports.

There was no official Iranian reaction, but one Iranian lawmaker played down the decision, calling it a "mere propaganda gesture".

EU Iran sanctions: Ministers adopt Iran oil imports ban

But EU did balk later when they realized they need the oil and set some kind of timetable

I wonder how many people got rich today from the oil contract speculations ?

This announcement may have been planned for just that reason.

The Saudis get richer with every price move, up or down.

The price of oil is highly manipulated.
