Why do you love the Vatican?

I can’t think of anything good they have ever done.
They control massive amounts of wealth and still demand donations for problems such as poverty, which they have helped to create by being a big part in the world banking cartel.
They condemn minorities and promote hate and prejudice.
The age of consent is 12!! Perfect for all the child molesters there. On that note they do not punish child molesters and the Vatican pays off victims so that the paedophiles are never brought to justice.

The Vatican needs to be burned to the ground

The U.N. should put sanctions on the Vatican at once, if they don't comply we'll just have to invade them.

Because they take my $$$

and in turn promise me passage to salvation and an eternal seat in "Heaven" after I die

I'd love to hear some good reasons for loving the Vatican Empire.

Here's a good one - if you're a Catholic priest, you're allowed to rape little boys without facing any actual legal consequences. They get to police themselves just like any other criminal organization

Exactly, I thinkt they will have a hard time coming up with an answer. Eventually there will be one but it will lack logic/common sense.

Yeah its great if your a child molester, how could you not love that

Oh the Vatican does very good things. Think about this for a moment. Imagine the devout religious followers of the organized Churches. Consider just how much time, effort and thinking they put into their efforts for and with the Church.

Now would you prefer having those same little bundles of nervous energy out wandering around the world without something like religion to direct their efforts?

In all seriousness though........ I don't love the Vatican, but it DOES give millions upon millions of normal and often poor people a reason to feel good and have hope where logic really doesn't support either one for them. It gives folks a reason to follow common sense laws of morality, where it may not matter otherwise. I'm just throwing it out as something to think about....but while the Roman Catholic Church has it's problems. No Question. They also represent a real force of positive energy for a fair % of the world population.

Well I would prefer if they were wandering without religion because now that they are wandering with religion, they are all trying to force the same message on others and even tho some of that effort goes into the church most of it goes onto the rest of society. I mean thats part of the business structure of a religion; that your followers give you free advertising and recruitment.

I don't love the Vatican, but it DOES give millions upon millions of normal and often poor people a reason to feel good and have hope where logic really doesn't support either one for them.
Well I could understand this if it was doing it non for profit, but they are making money of this which is deeply wrong. They take advantage of these vunerable people and play dangerous games with their minds.

It gives folks a reason to follow common sense laws of morality, where it may not matter otherwise.
This is the most common argument and it really holds no water, people dont need religion to be good and being religious doesnt stop you from being bad.

They also represent a real force of positive energy for a fair % of the world population.
All they give is false hope.

That one sentence gave me a mental image that gave me chuckle.

Ever notice how Vatican City likes to set up new churches in the most impoverished parts of the world? Where the most vulnerable, needy and gullible people are? Sorry, but that just smacks of taking advantage of people under the guise of giving them some sort of moral compass. As if people need religion for that.

I live in the southwest U.S. and this region of the country is littered with spanish missions. Way back in the day, some 400 years now, the catholics thought it prudent to come over here and "edcuate" the poor backwards indiginous population with "Gods truth and path towards salvation". All they did was disrupt ways of life that worked just fine for people.

Aside from the child molestations, my biggest beef with the catholic church ( No, I'm NOT going to capitalize it) is that they don't know how to leave well enough alone. My thought is if their message is so strong and true, why do they need to go to people with it. Seems to me that the people would come to it instead. But no, they feel the need to go around the world and force it down peoples' thoats. People who, in a lot of cases, don't have the wherewithal to say no. And the catholic church knows this.

They're evil. Pure and simple.

After 42 years that song is more relevant than ever.

It's sick when one of the most glaring examples of the diparity between the richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor is a religous institution and its parishoners. Think about it.

Indeed. Where you tend to look at the darker side of organized religion, I look to the brighter side of what it does directly in the lives of the individual people who follow the faith. I won't argue your side of it. It's perfectly valid and a fair part of why most of my extended family is Catholic, yet I'm Wiccan.
I don't personally have any use for organized religion and nothing personifies that more than the Vatican. I just think the good outweighs the bad.

Numbers and Percentages for Religion in the World

The numbers are impressive to consider, but I'd draw attention to the world map and just where and what % of area is solidly colored as Catholic. This isn't largely a Western/Industrialized world issue as much as a 3rd world support issue.

The Church does a GREAT deal of good and largely at a loss, if your talking in terms of profit, in the most impoverished areas of the world. That really can't be argued...and a major tangible positive they do. The lives which need hope the most, for what the Vatican supplies, also lay in much of that pink area of the map.

Hey, come on, you're confusing me. (Yes, I know that doesn't take much effort, but give me a break.) From the headline, and the other threads that have just popped up, I thought you guys are talking about Vatican City, the soverign state.

If you're going to be talking about why you don't like the Catholic Church, I've had my quota for this month. But if you're talking about the country.....

How can you not love a place that has an ATM with instructions in Latin? More art per square foot than any other country? Some very nice looking postage stamps? And tourists from all over the world every day like nowhere else?

The religion? That's your call. But the country? That's 100% great.

make me wonder, is this the Vatican and the Catholic Church we are talking about or the great 'Church' of the United States of America and Europe who are so hell bent on forcing their views on other people?

This is the ATS weather forecast expect to see a heavy rain of "Why do love X place?" For at least another week. This has been Mcupobob, signing out.

OT: I don't believe in their religion or agree with it. I shouldn't say that really some of the teachings of christ are pretty good I suppose. Besides the whole molesting boys and the condom and gay crusade they been spewing out. I have no real hatred or love for them. I really wish they weren't allowed to police themselves and the other stuff is just their opinion though.

Hmmm, why would any devout Roman-Catholic respond to this thread without expecting to be summarily attacked by all?! All you're doing is fishing, hoping to catch that nice big, juicy one to attack.

I will say that I am Roman-Catholic and my brother is a Seminarian. I love my religion and most things associated with it. He loves our religion and is a Pre-Vatican II type Conservative. Not all is bad with Roman-Catholicism. Just like not all is wrong with Judaism or Islam. There are good and bad with almost all things. Religion would be near the top of most peoples list, I think. Just what you choose to follow. Your OPINION! As well as mine...

I would never infringe on someone's right to religion and choice there of, however, my personal belief is that religion is an extremely out dated form of government and control. I have no love nor hate for the Vatican and by extention the Catholic religion. I just don't consider them relevant in any way, shape or form. As soon as the human race gets beyond religion and mysticism, we can concentrate on efforts on more worth while things. IMHO.
