It was made to be simple. It was the new and everlasting covenant and we made a mess of it.

Let me show you my reasoning on how we messed it up.

God came down and became man, Jesus. He gave us 2 things, the beatitudes and simplified all the Laws and Commandments into 2. Love God with all your mind, body, and soul. And Love your neighbor as yourself.

Then he died on the cross.

Christianity formed and focused on his death instead of the message and teachings. It is very simple.

God was saying, I dont want you to suffer anymore. I will die for you and take away your suffering and destroy sin. All I want from you is Love. Love me. Love each other. Those are my only two rules.

Original sin, gone. The 600 and some odd Laws, gone. The Ten Commandments gone. Live by those two and everything else will fall into place.

Now we have the sacraments, beatitudes, Ten Commandments (plus 2), and all of the Old Testament. Jesus Made the NEW and everlasting covenant... why then would we carry the old one with us too... He Fulfilled the Old Covenant...

it makes no sense to me at all. I just had to post this to get it out of my head. Thank you for reading. Its too simple of a concept to go an further into it. Just Love. If you show the Love to other people that you want to feel, then u will feel that love and more. God is in everything in the universe. If you show love to even a dog, then you can begin to feel the love and happiness of God. Probably the only quote anyone needs from the bible is this... If you did it to the least of my brothers, then you did it to me.

Since everyone is unique, one religion will never be right for everyone. But meditate on this, all roads lead to Rome. All Paths lead to God. Stop trying to push your way of life on other people. Just show them Love and understanding and you will both begin to find your way. Jesus said, go out and spread the message, The Way. Not a religion, but a simple message. Love God, and Love each other.

EDIT: some background info. Jesus, God in the Flesh. In the Old Testament, God would never show his face to people... Jesus is God saying here I am, and look at me and listen. No more prophets, no more Kings. I will show you who I am and what I want. Don't fear me, you are my children. I am not dome angry other worldly being in the sky. I am of this world, I want you to be happy, and I want you to know me.

@ the implication that "Jesus was the only man to ever be part of God. Let us worship him!"

Bull...#. I do not support for a single second, the concept that anyone is special to God. We are all the same to god...we are all loved and cherished. No one is above anyone else. I especially do not believe that a loving and benevolent omnipotent being would create an entire race just to make those creatures serve its will.

Nice try, but no. I have more respect for the Infinite Creator than to believe old-fashioned nonsense.

After all, my palms aren't covered in a carpet of hair...

Note: This is me, for the most part, agreeing with you. And if no one got the hairy palms reference, don't worry about it, it's not for you.

You got it!
Thanks for advocating for this; not a lot of us on this forum do, but some do, and I for one appreciate those who speak up about it.

You have it a little confused. Jesus was not part of God, but God Himself. EVERYTHING in creation is part of God.
As far as worship goes, I will try and clear up what I wrote a bit. In my mind to Love, is to worship in a sense. I Love my fiancee with all of my being, I want her to be happy and I would do anything to make her happy. I would give my life to save hers. My world almost revolves around her. God doesn't want us to worship just him, but everyone. Its not a forced worshiping, but voluntary. There is no one race or creed more important than another. Its a message to EVERYONE.

Like I quoted, If you did it to the least of my brothers, then you did it to me. So what you do to other people, you do it to God. God wants to be loved.

You don't need to be an animal to want to serve another and make them happy. You have the free will to do what ever you like. If it wasn't voluntary then it wouldn't have any meaning and it wouldn't be Love.

If Christians believed the way you do, there would be no reason to judge or go to war. Thus Christianity would be useless to many Christians.

Thank you. Anyone who follows Jesus, in all reality, shouldn't call themselves Christian. If we had just left it alone when it was called The Way I think we would be living in a much different world.... it poke some fun.... DAMN YOU CONSTANTINE!! lol

... cant tell if trolling.

If its sarcasm then lol, but...

If you truly believe that love is evil, then you can't possibly be living a truly happy life. If you say you are happy, then i can tell you that your happiness is nothing compared to the happiness you will find in true pure love. Maybe you pulled the short stick and have had a rough ride in life, if so then I am very truly sorry. But I beg you not to lose your hope that you can and will find that love and happiness.

My sentiments on this topic can best be expressed in this song

Don't need no blind belief, don't need no comic relief,
Don't need to see the scars,
Don't need Jesus Christ Superstar,
Don't need Sunday television,
Bet your life I Don't Need Religion.

Don't need no time for prayer,
Don't save no knee-pads for me up there,
If your heads alright,
Ya don't need binoculars to see the light,
Ya don't need no miracle vision,
Bet your life you Don't Need Religion.

I don't need no Santa Clause,
Don't believe in fairies no more,
Don't need to go to confession,
I'm already trying to fight depression,
Don't need no exorcism,
Bet your life I Don't Need Religion.

To the OP, I tend to agree with your views on this. I've tried explaining the simplicity of it to others too, but they get hung up on old laws / commandments... I tell them the same thing, do those two things, and everything else falls into place.

As for the "all roads lead to Rome", I tend to disagree and here's why. If you look at the message of Jesus from a Biblical perspective, it is the complete reverse of every other "religion" out there... it is God reaching out to mankind, whereas everything else seems to be from the viewpoint of mankind reaching out to some form of a God or Deity. That to me is what separates it from any other belief.

If the Devil truly does exist (and I think he does), and cannot create anything but has the ability to destroy and distort... then what a better way to confuse and mislead the masses, then twisting the true message into various other forms.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it." Matthew 7:13

Many other teachers who were worshipped by other religions also understood the concept of the narrow gate...

Love is the path... many taught it...

Jesus just perfected it... as the best path to the Father...

Interesting post, I have a few questions and this is just out of interest and curiosity, what do you mean when you say Jesus fulfilled the old covenant? Also does it say in the bible that Jesus makes the ten commandments no longer necessary? If so where can I find the passage?

Thanks

Hi Akragon,

I enjoy reading your posts on the Religion forum, and I grasp from what you say that you do not follow a religion as such. Do you believe Jesus was resurrected ? I personally am not sure, I think he might have just been a wise man for his time that showed compassion for people when others didn't and that's how he gathered a small following. His teachings have stood the test of time , but I don't find anything in scripture personally that I think gives reason to believe he was resurrected from the dead of for that matter the son of god.

Do you mean that in the sense that love one another is a blanket statement which covers all the ways in which you could be unloving to one another as stated in the ten commandments?

35Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying,

36Master, which is the great commandment in the law?

37Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

38This is the first and great commandment.

39And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

40On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
