In return for their support, Pakistan had sanctions lifted and has received about $10 billion in U.S. aid since 2001, primarily military. In June 2004, President George W. Bush designated Pakistan as a major non-NATO ally,[7] making it eligible, among other things, to purchase advanced American military technology.
Very few Americans realize the extent to which Congress sends billions of their tax dollars overseas to fund the most counterproductive foreign welfare schemes imaginable, always in the guise of helping the poor. A recent report by the congressional Joint Economic Committee on which I serve highlights the reckless manner in which one organization, the International Monetary Fund, wastes your money around the world.
IMF loans often do far more harm than good. At best IMF borrowers are governments of countries with little economic productivity; at worst the money ends up in the hands of corrupt dictators. Either way, most recipient nations face huge debts they cannot service, which only adds to their poverty and instability. IMF money ultimately corrupts those countries it purports to help, by keeping afloat reckless political institutions

I completely agree with everything you have said mate - probably because I, too, am not American.
It's amazing what an outsiders view can actually see.
Careful though mate, I am willing to put money down on the fact you (and now I) will be labelled "America Haters" several times throughout this thread.edit on 13/2/2012 by Kryties because: (no reason given)

I think a good book I read on the subject was called "odious debts".
One other thing they highlighted, was that a lot of aid has been paid just so certain countries would meet their interest payments. Either that or the Governments receiving it would us it to borrow more money while blowing the aid on pet projects that diverted the money elsewhere.
It's a fun topic.

And we all should be critical of the American Government since its the centre of the death star. I cant think of a more pressing or relevant topic than debating America's position in the world.
Americans are so egocentric and blind for the most part that it blows their minds to think America isnt perfect and the greatest nation on earth. They need to acknowledge problems before they can fix them.

I could not have put it better myself mate, have you been reading my mind or something?

Frankly, I'm tired of American imperialism, too. I think it's time to start letting the Chinese do the work.

Had I my way, we'd just go back into isolationism. No free trade, no NATO, no UN, no naval bases, no foreign aid, no nothing.

I think most Americans have an "anti-american" sentiment on this board or we at least don't like what our government does. So I don't know what you people are talking about.
