In the other linked thread one discussion mentioned that they had something to do with controlling an overpopulation of squid, in localized areas of the Coast.

Apparently oceanographic scientists have installed them......

Was hoping someone would pull this story up, as it sure is curious. I hear that these boxes are from north of California to Washington?

are there any credible news sources? I would think the media would have been all over this?

Looking at the pics and people mentioning they give off a slight humming noise reminded me of those Bloom energy boxes, possible reason why they can't be towed out as the rest of the unit is dug deep under the sand?
