This thread is about some people liking lightning bolts as a symbol.

No it's not, it's about U.S. Marines using Nazi symbolism (SS logo) on their flag. Remember, even the Marines admitted it stood for SS (Sniper Scouts) so even the Marines have admitted it's not lightning bolts. Read the OP and you might realize that your post I'm responding too is completely incorrect.

Nice avatar though

Did half of ATS all of a sudden become part of the "Templar Knights"?

Originality must have died after the Marines started using Nazi symbols because I sure see a lot of followers lately.

I was thinking the same thing, does the American education system not teach history?

Or do all marines drop out in the 6th grade, because I learned this stuff in the 6th grade in Canada.

Personal attacks on people you don’t even know? Really?? How many US Marines do you know??

I’m shocked you’re a gold contributer…really. How childish are these arguments you make? There is obviously no criteria other than volume!

I’m a former Marine and I have a Bachelors in Business Management and working on my MBA. Why do so many Canadians feel superior in intellect to Americans…must be the liberalism?

Why yes - the Templar meme sure has a large "field" doesn't it?

So you are saying the two lightning bolts aren't, they are two stylized "S" for Sniper Scouts. Well now you are backtracking.

I don't think you understand. I don't care if the Nazis used something. They also used the alphabet, and I'm not giving that up either.

Why are you so sensitive? It was a logical observation which shouldn't threaten you unless you realize there is some truth to it, so for you to consider it a personal attack indicates your lack of comprehension in the matter at hand.

I know quite a few Marines, what's your point?

I have degrees too, but you don't here me bragging about them trying to impress ATS

I know quite a few Marines, and none of them are stupid enough to think that this flag means "Sniper Scout", just saying. Either the people in that picture are dumb as a doorknob, or they're Nazis.

No, your just too stupid to realize it isn't a Nazi symbol.

Let me guess, it's lightning bolts?

I wouldn't be so eager to paint myself with the same brush as the idiots in the OP picture if I were you.

No, it's not. It means "SCOUT SNIPER" just like everyone has been telling you through the whole damn thread.

If I was sensitive I wouldn’t have let you bloviate for so many pages!

Do you tell them how dumb they are…like you tell ATS?

I doubt it….and it wasn’t bragging. It only appears that way to people with no degree.

You don’t know any US Marines beside me! And I showed you the meaning.

Thick headed or stuck on your agenda??

Not only are you sensitive, but you're defensive, a very lethal combination.

No, they are not dumb, unlike you fake Marines on ATS who have never left your mom's basements, did you have grilled cheese for dinner?

I doubt it….and it wasn’t bragging. It only appears that way to people with no degree.

You mentioned your "degree" like it was something worth mentioning. Come on man get real, you were trying to impress me with your Bachelors in Business Management and your ongoing MBA. You ran out of ammunition so you resorted to attempts of self gratification Good job

I'm still not impressed, you could be my secretary

Most of you know my reasons for thinking the "SS" flag is no big deal. I've stated my points reasonably numerous times and I stand by them fully because they are in no way wrong.

If you disagree with them, it doesn't mean my reasons are wrong because you think they are, and it doesn't mean you are wrong because I think you are.

But... this thread is just turning into mud slinging and personal attacks from both sides now.

You've never talked to a Marine in your life other than on ATS. And none of them agree with you. Stop trying to give yourself a tiny bit of credibility by making yourself feel better. No Marine would agree with the idiotic remarks you've made.

You asked if all Marines drop out in the 6th grade, therefore it was relevant.

Are you not going to reply to my previous post? I'm sad you ran off so quickly.

I am offended.

I am offended that people would call these boys stupid, dumb, uneducated, Nazi, ignorant, unpatriotic, Coward, and slur of other names.

I am offended that people would want them court-martialed or disciplined in any way for something as stupid as this.

I am offended that people cannot make the distinction between Scout Snipers and Neo Nazis.

I am offended by this thread.

I am not offended by two letters side-by-side.

These soldiers deserve our respect and thanks not our disdain. Anyone who would give them any less is offensive to say the least.

Well; you may be offended for the lack of respect these soldiers deserve. A hell of a lot more people are offended by the lack of respect these soldiers dont show for their duties.

Their trade mark is equal to a symbol that has historical meaning, people will react to something like this. You react in a positive way because this symbol means nothing to you.

No one has "reacted" for the past 50 years that it's been the scout sniper logo.
People just look for something to whine and complain about.

Often you are the voice of reason, but everyone wants to attack you. It's funny how irrational people get when they realize they're wrong.

It's a symbol and the only people who are making it a problem are those of you who want it to be a problem. Get over yourselves and let it be. If you didn't get all up in arms about it, it wouldn't be a problem. Right?

Absolutely. It's pretty crazy how something as trivial as a logo garners this much negative attention. Are people really this bored?

The command has already said they will no longer be using the logo I think that should end this whole debacle. People really need to get over it. These guys in no way meant to offend anybody. The emblem has been used widespread through their scout sniper community and I know for a fact there have been Jewish and black scout snipers so that should put a end to the argument that they are racist.

Everything that can be said on the subject has already been said can we leave it alone already?

This is not the first time soldiers have used SS and Nazi symbolism in Afghanistan, and every time it has been discovered it has been hit hard.
Its a disgrace when soldiers take advantages like this without thinking about others than them selves. This is not a private unit where individuals can use private or personal symbolism, other than what is authorised by its units authority.

You're right it's not the first time because it's been in use in the scout sniper community since '67.
People are way too soft, and if they're not whining about one thing, they're whining about something else. Big deal, these guys are trained killers, why exactly should they care what civilians approve or disapprove as their logo? Is that more offensive than their job to you?

It has been approved, that's why it's been in use 50 years. Do you think you're going to be hearing that from Marine Corps brass? Of course not, they're going to pretend to care so the public will shut up and stop trying to critique petty things. They roll their eyes at stuff like this. I guarantee it will still be in use. The only thing that might change is they won't be allowed to take photos with it.

A little public outcry by armchair Generals isn't going to ruin a 50 year old scout sniper tradition.
