LONDON (Reuters) - European planemaker Airbus reported progress on Wednesday in plans to allow passengers to use mobile phones in flight, beginning in 2006.

Test equipment aboard an Airbus A320 plane demonstrated that mobile phones can be used without interfering with navigation systems, it said.

Didn't the Gov't tell us that passengers were using cell phones to call loved ones on 9/11? I know some used the air phones but I remember them saying that cell phones were used as well.

In the past I have seen reports saying that cell phones couldn't be used but this is the first time I have seen anything in the mainstream media. I don't know but I hope a lot of people pick up on this.

Give the guy a break, SpittinCobra!

I've never made a cell phone call from an airplane because of the rules. You aren't supposed to use cell phones in hospitals near medical equipment, but that doesn't mean you can't make a call. We wouldn't want them to interfere with important equipment at such crucial times.
