Need experienced advice on how to do deal with unruly neighbors!

Now i'm not condoning this, but....
A friend of mine had exact same prob with a neighbour, went on for years.
One day he amped up all the speakers in his house, put them all against the adjoining wall, found his darkest/ hardest drum and bass tunes, set them on a loop and went away for the weekend.
Problem solved. Any noise they may have made after that seemed minor to the neighbour.
Either that or it had affected his hearing
