So this is the second year in a row, that I will not do my traditional Valentines Day ritual. This ritual includes me dressing in all black, getting
bonkered out of my mind, and listening to sappy love songs, crying, cursing love and all the people that believe in it, and then passing out utterly
alone.
Another Valentines Day has come and still in Love with the boyfriend, so I guess my goth outfit will stay hid in the closet for another year at least!
However, I still deal with the whole Valentines Day as a sceptic. My friends at work call it the Hallmark Holiday, and say it is a complete hoax
turned into something it shouldn't be just to make money by sellers of cards, flowers, and whatever else love makes people wanna buy their significant
others.
I did some research and have heard the lot of St. Valentines stories and how red represents the blood of the people he had killed, but found another
that was just as weird. Seems the Romans would get drunk, sacrifice a goat and dog, then line the women up (naked) and spank them with the tails of
these animals. The women thought this would bring them luck and make them more fertile. Then they would have a lotto with the women, this decided
which man got which women, and this was their celebration process on Valentines Day.
Interesting Huh?! I am interested to find out if anyone really knows the orgins of this Holiday, and other wacked rituals that people throughout time
may have performed to celebrate what we all consider now: THE DAY OF LOVE! Is this day seriously worth getting our wallets out, or is it just as my
friends say, a Hallmark Holliday?
