Public/government schools are a privilege.

I used to think they should stick to basic education - - but over the years I've changed my mind.

I've seen the effects of social and cultural integration into the public school curriculum. I now fully support it - - and think it helps children be better adults in their generation.

I don't think children should be held back from an evolving society - - by ideologies/concepts of a past generation.

Parents are - of course - still the most vital part of any child's life. Good parenting is essential. Sharing your beliefs with your child is a parents right - - - forcing that belief is not.

Trying to force your child's public school to adhere to your belief is also not acceptable. It still haunts me today - - realizing I had Jewish kids in my class and not only was it never acknowledged - - they were forced to participate in Christian holidays.

What about Father's Day and Mother's Day. There was no provision or program in my days in public school allowing for kids of "different" families. When I told my teacher in first grade - - I did not have a dad - - she had no explanation - - she told me to just do the art project.

Its sad that schools had to force racial integration. Its sad that segregation still continues - - - with parents planning private proms and grad parties for white kids only.

I support 100% that public government schools have a responsibility to all children and families through social/cultural education to teach acceptance/understanding of diversity - - in race - ethnicity - gender identity - mixed families - etc.

And as said - - if parents don't like it - - put your kid in a private school that agrees with your ideology. The fact you can't afford it - - is YOUR problem. It is not the public governments school's responsibility to make you an exception.

I know you might laugh at this but, imo, they aren't protesting because Ellen
is gay...their protesting because she's "married" and she supports something
that many people don't.

There is also an unfair push in our schools that many parents oppose. It's come
to this...rallies and pushing back.
Sure about that? onemillionmoms.com...

There's more though: onemillionmoms.com...
onemillionmoms.com...
onemillionmoms.com...
onemillionmoms.com...

Even if you were right, then that doesn't make it any better.

Also, i'm pretty sure that "unfair push" you're talking about is them teaching the idea that there's nothing wrong with being gay.

Lets play a little game. Lets take out the word gay and place other words in it's place.

One Million Moms rally at JcPenny's to fire Ellen Degeneres for being Black!
One Million Moms rally at JcPenny's to fire Ellen Degeneres for being Jewish!

And why is homophobia still accepted in the states when it is a faux pas to generalize on someone due to their color of skin?

I tried doing this already, sorry It won't work, you'll just end up being accused of being racist, which is the most ridiculous thing you could do. People still don't get it, and as long as there is someone there to say, Its Us vs. Them, for whatever reason you could think of, you suddenly have control over massive amounts of sheeple.

Most people don't object to classes where kids learn that Mexican Indians used to stone grind all their corn to make tortillas. That is a silly thing and doesn't even border on culture shock. However, there is an agenda by some cultural Marxists to promote racist ideologies of such groups as MEChA and the concept of reconquista. Are you on board with that or is it just gay rights you espouse?

archive.frontpagemag.com...

michellemalkin.com...

www.mayorno.com...

I am not really surprised if you are on board with this stuff, as many liberals accept this as par for the course.

I am all for ethnic pride, and having an organization that fosters that. I am against racial hostility of any kind. I am against violence of any kind, including wars for property rights. I naively believe that we should all live together and get along, no matter what our diversities are, with equal rights for all. I wished we hadn't treated the American Indian so badly, and I am ashamed of our country for that.

However, what does La Raza or MEChA have to do with teaching diversity of cultures or diversity of families in grade school? Are you saying that public schools are promoting racial hostility to elementary school children?
Again, I think you are sidestepping here.

Oh boy, here we go. It amazes me how the liberal social engineering has brainwashed our youth in feeling guilty.

As to the rest of your WHY CAN'T WE ALL GET ALONG bit, here is some breaking news - Humanity just doesn't work that way. My evidence - just take a look at human history.....and let me guess, you are the kind that cheers when someone bashes white, Christian culture. I know, I know - we are the root cause of all evil in the world.

Oh I see, so if we haven't seen it before, then it must not be possible. Kind of like before we went to the moon, we said it was impossible, because obviously no one had ever been there. When you limit your potential to the past, you'll never progress anywhere.

Father's Day and Mother's Day? Those holidays are both always celebrated on weekends. What has that to do with school curriculum? Independence Day? You are welcome to move to Cuba if you feel that is antisocial.

Oh no, little Sally or Johnny might feel bad if they have homosexual parents and the rest of the class is celebrating Mother and Father's Day.

Am I the only one who is insulted by this? Are children these days being raised to be so emotionally weak? While the guilt ridden are for a free for all, other cultures are making sure their children are being raised to their culture norms.

You see my liberal / socialist minded friends that some people are starting to wake up. The scam of FOR THE PEOPLE isn't working and people are starting to be vocal about it.

Not when I went to school in the 50s. Mother and Father's day was celebrated in school.

Sorry that you can't understand the concepts are the same.

I live here - - and I like the way our society is going. You're the one who might be happier some place else.

At times it does seem like there's a communication problem here.
Annee insists NOM's and AFA are hate groups.

well, one day later - and a few hours more of reading later and all I can say is - I agree with Annee

minus the word hate

the concept of hate is pretty subjective. There's so much about this argument that's subjective - in reality I guess our views depend on where we're standing and where we're looking - I don't think the word hate is useful here

but then, about hate...I know it when I see it :-)

I just spent a good chunk of time reading on the NOM website - and then on websites directly related to that site, then reading up on Jim Crow legislation, miscegenation laws, the definition of marriage, the definition of kinship...all I have to say about that is - I couldn't stop giggling. I'm surprised they got as far as they did - but I think it's just a matter of time - it is a civil rights issue - and these things have a way of making us look back on the past and wonder what the hell we could have been thinking

Some of us have the good sense to question what we're thinking in the here and now - but it just sounds arrogant if you say it out loud

They're going to lose this one - hate or no. It bothers you that one group flings the word hate at another - and I can understand that. The simple fact of the matter is - one side wants equal rights for everyone - and the other wants special rights upheld only for themselves

hate or no hate - NOM and their Moms are on the wrong side of this argument

and of course - that is my opinion, but not just my opinion. Time and the majority will eventually decide - and then it will be law

goodbye Jim Crow and all your kissing cousins - and good-riddance

The thing is I've been listening to Michelangelo Signorile on OutQ radio for a couple years now.

They have live interviews with leaders of these groups - - plus play other media clips of them speaking.

Some of the stuff that comes out of their mouth is mind blowing. They are not nice people.

The AFA is officially listed as a Hate group. Wasn't me.

NOM as of Jan 12, 2012 - - is now officially listed as a Hate group by SPLC. Wasn't me. www.bluehampshire.com...

Its not about unicorns and moonbeams. You live in a neighborhood, and within that neighborhood you don't constantly fight with each other, just expand that out to the rest of the world.

Guess you don't live in my neighborhood. Fights and all sorts of stuff goes on everyday, from seeing a woman getting her throat cut to people getting shot. (and this is in a small city I live in)

But beyond that, the more people you interact with, the more chance you are to find someone who doesn't like you, just for the simple fact of you being there. So what I am saying is homosexuals looking for everyone to accept who they are is impossible, some people simply won't like you, at all.

Some will wish homosexuals were all killed (I have heard this personally from a few people) I would think some of my other posts would suggest I am not against homosexuality, whatever turns your crank - go for it. Homosexuals should be able to get married, adopt - doesn't really matter to me....but to some it does and it always will.

You should re-read your own point.

They are not asking anyone to like them. They are asking for Equal Rights.

some of the stuff that doesn't come out of their mouths is also mind blowing :-)

like I said - I know hate when I see it - no matter how subtle. They've just learned how to play the game is all

from their website:

Language to avoid at all costs: "Ban same-sex marriage." Our base loves this wording. So do supporters of SSM. They know it causes us to lose about ten percentage points in polls. Don’t use it. Say we’re against “redefining marriage” or in favor or “marriage as the union of husband and wife” NEVER “banning same-sex marriage.”
www.nationformarriage.org...

If it was really about preserving the sanctity of marriage - they would go after unwed mothers (and fathers), divorced couples, unmarried couples - but they know they can't get away with that

They would go after homosexuality period if they could - but they can't

So, they've settled for a transparent and incredibly lame attack on the ability of 'gayness' to affect the value and influence of their marriages - of all marriages - everywhere

marriage as we know it will be useless

as if

:-)

Intent is everything - I'm always surprised when people think what they do is invisible

we've drifted from the OP a little - so, this might be a good place to remember - the Million Moms actually wanted a major corporation to abandon Ellen Degeneres as their spokesperson - because her lesbianess offends people with traditional family values

I'm still waiting for a good explanation from the opposition: how is hiring Ellen to say nice things about JCPenny going to harm their children?

I'm not waiting because I think they might change my mind - I'm waiting because I could use the laugh

Oh that's good.

I did know in the Prop8 trial - - they were very careful to try to come up with an argument that had nothing to do with belief.

No one is fooled.

Because they're afraid she might sneak in a little gay propaganda in the commercials?? You did know she's part of the liberal indoctrination program for the State, right? Yep, the state hired her right after JCPenneys did. She's a busy lady.

well, you gotta admit - it's hard to argue with the dictionary:

As Cooper finally explained in his closing argument, "Your honor, you don't have to have evidence for this. … You only need to go back to your chambers and pull down any dictionary or book that defines marriage," Cooper told the judge. "You won't find it had anything to do with homosexuality."

www.slate.com...

in all seriousness - I have to believe they didn't try harder because they've known for some time they were going to lose - they're waiting for a new situation and a better venue

it's not over 'til it's over

who would have ever believed conspiracy theory might one day involve both Ellen Degeneres and JCPenny?

it's a scary world we live in, and that's the truth :-)
