I would think that India's GDP would exceed that of Australia, BUT we still give Billions of $ of aid to India, Indonesian (220 million people) and every other 3rd World (so called) country....
I believe the reason is the Superiority Complex and Guilt Complex combined of White people, that they feel they are the cause of all the Worlds problems, and the 3rd World doesnt mind telling them....More fool the Whitey.

India can feed all its people, because they can live on a bowl of rice and vegies for a week.....Whitey in America needs 10 burgers, 50 Sodas, 10 fired chickens, 5 roast beefs, milk Cereal or Oats in the morning, clean water, etc etc. to survive.

Also, the USA motto is help them, that help themselves, where we can see stock brokers on Wall Street getting Million$ Xmas bonuses, that can walk by and ignore some African-descendant living in a cardboard box on the sidewalk....yes nice and fair....Trading Places anyone?

Also while India has religious and some indigenous problems, basically India is full of Indians.....
America has that Huge intrenched Racial Divide..White v Black, not to mention the Asians, Mexicans, Native Americans, and everyone else who has travelled there in the last 200 years or so,.....The Real Indians dont have that major problem.
This is not being racist, just the fact of life. All humans are tribal, greedy and racist, or we would have never had 1000s of years of wars, slavery and conquests.

Why bother. The human race has gone in a direction that is no longer human and we and the earth are suffering for it. Why bother taking care of a limb that has gangrene?

When earth reboots and the phoenix rises from the ashes then the new world change will be implemented then. Unfortunately we must be brought to the brink.

The Depopulation Wars will be clean...hopefully.

The technological breakthroughs point in that direction.

Swift and clean.....almost like a rapture....except with really advanced weapons' systems.

Beats the heck out of everyone dying from plague and famine.

You ever eat a "meal" at a shelter?

They are not living large.

Getting up in the morning and going to work to feed your family is not exactly a day at the beach....unless you are a lifeguard or something.

By the way, India is the world's second largest producer of ketamine....and the world's largest supplier of ketamine to black market international organized crime.

I find it sad. The US with all out military might and money do so little to help the poor who truly need the help. India, an economy 1/15 the size of ours is going to try and feed most of its poor population. Now, the plan in India could be just election pandering, but it shows some nations still dream big. I would like to hear your thoughts on this topic..

the-diplomat.com...

Well, maybe India should also focus on. . .oh, I don't know. . maybe investing in traffic lights, and lanes on roads. Oh, and how about India figures out a way not to dump dead bodies into their rivers.

I'll take the USA with our apparent non plan to feed the poor over living in a freaking third world country such as India. Dirtiest place I've ever been to. Great people, but christ. . .they get a plan to feed the poor, yet the majority of their population don't even have running water. BS

Knowing India, it's an election scheme.

There are really two questions here.
1) Is this a legitimate program on India's part, or just an election-cycle promise to get votes? This one's easy, folks. In the linked article, it's pointed out that India doesn't have the food production and distribution system to actually make this happen, and doesn't have the money to support the program. Therefore, this has to go into the "campaign promise with no connection to reality" bin.

2) Why can't the US do something like this? As others have pointed out, the US already provides food stamps, WIC subsidies, and other programs to help the poor. If you want something even more directly analogous, look a bit further back in our history, and you can find the USDA's "Commodities" program. Back in the ancient days (the 1970s) there was a program where families with low incomes could get government-subsidized basic foodstuffs. Things like flour, beans, sugar, powdered milk, peanut butter, and cheese. It wasn't fancy food by a long shot, but one of my best friend's family got food under this program, and I can tell you that in the hands of a good cook, amazing things could happen using just those basic staple items. Unfortunately, somewhere in the time since then, we got more concerned with giving the poor dignity, instead of giving them wholesome food, and the commodities program was scrapped for food stamps...and now the poor can eat the same unhealthy, frozen-dinner crap that is killing off the middle class. What an improvement!

India plans to feed their poor... or rather most of it's poor. This does not include clothing them or subsidizing heat or electricity or medical or even providing free rural transport to town for the poor and needy. But they do this here in NC in the USA.

We also have various programs to feed our poor...WIC, FoodStamps... oh, and subsidized housing or even free housing based on need.

Based on statistics I have read... the poor have at least one auto, a majority have computers and TVs and cell phones, over half have video games and microwaves.

When I was growing up in the 1960s, a family with one car, a TV, household appliances, and public education was considered the middle class... seems the paradigm has shifted a little.

I always thought it strange that the Indian caste system forbids the eating of meat....and there are all those Brahmin Bulls walking willy nilly through the streets, untouched.

Maybe India is doing something wrong, all on its own?

Most civilised modern countries feed their poor. Here in Holland if a poor person has nothing to eat or has no shelter it is because he choose HIMSELF not to have it.

Don't get me started with the USA and how its government care for its people...
