Ambitious UN Sustainability Conference in Rio to Avoid Climate Talk

According to chief Andre Correa do Lago of Brazil's delegation working on the outcome document for "Rio+20" — the upcoming UN conference is set for 20 years after the first Earth Summit was held in the Brazilian city — climate change and global warming have become too sensitive of an issue for many countries.

“Sustainability” is often promoted by supporters as protection of the environment for future generations. But to critics — especially in the United States, where suspicions of "Agenda 21" and the global body run deep — it is a term used by the UN and its backers to conceal a much more sinister agenda: Perpetually expanding government control over natural resources and economic development while individual liberty is curtailed and power is consolidated at the global level.

There's no doubt climate science gets a big boost out of the global warming thing, like a lot of science these days it's influenced by the money. Have we impacted the climate? more than likely. Is it causing a greenhouse effect that is shifting the balance? I don't know.

I know this though, we have bigger problems than excess carbon.

Who gives a crap about global warming in the face of global poisoning? People disagree on the climate thing, but is there any doubt that we are seriously screwing up the planet by dumping waste into water systems, filling the seas with crap creating dead zones, stepping over the delicate balance of resources and putting the food chain at risk, deforestation, creation of deserts through water mismanagement. Pesticides building up in the land and the rivers and streams and in our food supply, pressuring the weakening biodiversity, nuclear waste and DU weponised nuclear waste and maybe a few thousand more pollutants released into the atmosphere that are much more harmful than a basic compound of life as in carbon. Count the ways.

Global warming! c'mon folks we got bigger fish to fry. Global warming is nothing but a diversion to keep the greenies on side and looking like they care as they continue to rape mother Earth and profit from the new marketable commodity of carbon emissions.

Even if AGW is true!

It's just really F%$%^N sad. I mean what are we going to do? stabalise the climate? So we can live on toxic planet with nice moderate weather? arrrrrrggggh!

Yes but you see what the concern here is, well it is this here. Look at the image below. Follow the red line from left to right. Now look very carefully at that red line at the very edge on the right. See that spike, that very unusual spike? That there is what has occurred in our fossil fuel days. This is what is alarming 98 percent of our scientists. This is what is causing concern.

Now as you mentioned, we are still at a low point in mean temperature when compared to the last 500 million years. But that spike is not natural and that spike is deeply troubling.

Also you need to take into consideration this......

The plant life and animal life in a natural slowly changing temp/02/co2 cycle has time to adapt to the changes in the cycle.
What happens when there is a spike so fast that much of the plants and animals don't have time to adapt genetically (by way of evolution)?

Edit to add: That spike also shows NO sigh of slowing. That little picture speaks a million words.

Makes you wonder why Mr. Gore would always refuse to debate this issue... The guy is a joke. He couldn't even come up with a good scheme to get into our wallets just bunch of lies. He is such a hypocrite. When his daughter got married a few years ago he flew to the wedding in his private jet and had them serve chilean sea bass for dinner. Chilean sea bass were endangered and are still threatened. If hes so "GREEN" he wouldn't even think about eating one of these. Never heard of ol Al producing anything more than lies. What exactly is he good for anyway?

Al Gore is responsible for Marketing, but Maurice Strong is the Founding Father.

www.prisonplanet.com...

McLeod also notes that The Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) has direct ties to both Al Gore and Maurice Strong, two figures intimately involved with a long standing movement to use the theory of man made global warming as a mechanism for profit and social engineering.

Gore’s investment company, Generation Investment Management, which sells carbon offset opportunities, is the largest shareholder of CCX.

While Maurice Strong, who is regularly credited as founding father of the modern environmental movement, serves on the board of directors of CCX. Strong was a leading initiate of the Earth Summit in the early 90s, where the theory of global warming caused by CO2 generated by human activity was most notably

Essentially Obama helped fund the profiteers of the carbon taxation program that he is now seeking to steer through Congress and signed half a year ago Agenda 21.

So... you dont believe that emissions from a volcano contribute to the atmosphere? You dont believe in methane leaks on the ocean floor, the natural & self-regulating CO2 sink that is 80% of the earths surface? You dont believe that the trees breathe CO2?

But, you believe "tens of thousands of peer reviewed articles" that condemn human emissions? despite the lobby's and industries that fund most of that (widely inconclusive) research?

And i assume you have read those tens of thousands of peer reviewed articles, for you to be pointing to them as evidence?

Hook, line... sinker?

The arrogance of humans never ceases to amaze me. Thinking 7 billion(!) people with all their consumption wouldn't make any dent in the global environment!

I'm with you chrismir. Seems to me only an idiot would believe we aren't possibly doing something to change to natural earth cycles with our billions of motorized vehicles pumping vapors into the air unnaturally.

LOL - I love it.

The idiots at the Met office are trying to say that the sun has negligible effect on climate, "man made" greenhouse gasses are the biggest factor.

Are they suggesting then that we don't need to worry if the sun stops shining altogether because we can pollute ourselves warm?

What a bunch of utter morons.

The thing is that while you might think that our motor cars etc have a big effect on the planet, you don't actually realise how tiny we are.

It's like claiming that the farts from the fleas on a dogs back can kill the dog.

OP, PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE ARTICLE. And reread it.

If you actually READ the entire news article you will find that 'they' have not "CONFIRMED: global warming ended 15 years ago"...

IT DOES SAY: "Ten or 15 years from NOW, we will be able to determine much better whether the warming of the late 20th Century really was caused by man-made CO2, or by natural variability."
--you will notice that they still admit to the warming, not deny it.

What the article also says is that scientists have is a new model, which they are certainly skeptical of its validity, and one way of interpreting this model suggests the sun may have a larger impact on temperature than they previously thought. Thus, Co2 may play a smaller role (still a role, nonetheless). But, there are differences in their opinions about what the information from this model means; one possibility is another ice age.

"‘The real issue is whether the model itself is accurate,’ Dr Scafetta said"

Nonprofessionals, politicians and journalists interpreting a scientific article is a scary thing....

Readers be wary: there is good science, and bad science. I suggest reading peer reviewed articles if you want any sort of "truth". Don't get your science from Al Gore, Rush Limbaugh, or ATS for that matter

Unfortunately, global climate has become a political issue when in fact it is a real issue.

Actually Global Warming is a very real threat that is not man made but a result of the archaea microbial that creates methane gas.

See "When Will the Bubble Burst" Discover Magazine.

Global Warming really isn't a big issue as long as the archaea microbial don't a mass to the point of creating a methane burp. A burp that is theorized to have wiped out the dinosaurs. Supposedly the methane burp released enough methane and other gases into the atmosphere that then ignited and scorched the Earth.

Another methane burp called "The Second Coming of the Methane Burp" could occur anywhere under the ocean floor that could cause a mega tsunami or even worse a second extinction of biological species on Earth which include humans.

But there is no way for them to make money off that threat, so it's ignored.
They only focus on issues that they can use to get more money, if that weren't true, then a lot more real problems would have already been solved.

Unfortunately those that attacked people who dared to question the "Global Warming"movement will suddenly be skeptics once mainstream media starts telling them this is today's truth.

*SIGH* Sometimes it hurts to think for yourself when among those who prefer to be told what to think.

Exactly.
We have an impact on our immediate environments , but on the earth itself, no.
If a giant asteroid couldn't kill her, or massive super volcanos spewing for years couldn't destroy her, what makes these arrogant people think they can kill her. She'll get us first.

people ought to worry more about the oxygen production, because of the fires.
Is there any excessive O2 production? If there isn't any we don't have any reason to worry.

To me, an asthmatic, I little more O2 in the atmosphere would be nice.

Yes, worth re-iterating, for those who have not read the whole thread, that the Daily Mail story is totally wrong (a complete lie in fact) and is akin to a headline screaming 'Man Utd win the Cup' just after thay have been beaten 5-0 in the first round.

MetO research has simply concluded that if, as some models predict, we experience reduced solar activity over the coming decades, such as we saw during the Dalton Mininum (towards the end of the Little Ice Age), then the consequent reduction in global temps will not be much and will not be enough to reverse current global warming caused by GHG emissions and other human activities.

Whether the MetO research is correct is another matter. But unless you've undertaken similar research yourself, who can say they it is wrong?

After reading this thread I fully believe humanity as a whole isn't intelligent or advanced enough to make any solid conclusion on whats going on with the enviornment. I imagine the whole earth being flat vs round debate was very similar to this one. I tend to believe that the sun has alot more effect on climate than our CO2 emissions. But do believe our CO2 emissions have an effect, now if it's big or small thats the real question. But am going to refuse to get pulled into this debate, because it's not going anywhere. Thats why I believe we just don't have enough good information to back one theory over another. A simple google search proves this, the information and data thats available clearly shows there are 2 sides to this. The data is most likely being manipulated from both parties. Thats what should be pissing everyone off is the fact the information presented is so bias toward one theory or another. The scientific community should be ashamed of this... This goes against everything they stand for.

I recommend the mods just close this thread...
