Could compromise be possible if the U.S. can't destroy them?

I have a feeling compromise has to be possible. If American bombs can't knock out Iran's program there seems no other option.

Hey Dude,

Interesting thread topic,

Was disappointed to open it to find one line which was a question and a link to an article that didnt mention anything to do with the OP.

Got any info or sources on these bunkers?

It was on foxnews. So this is why I believe the US will compromise...they have no choice.

iran learned from north korea

threaten, endure sanctions, get paid

this is all sabre rattling

sad

I feel the regime has a greater need to compromise than the west does.
Most of the population remembers the relative good days of the Shaw. The women had real freedom. The current religion based government is not the majority. They are the ones with the guns. When the population’s pain gets too great they will revolt. If we squeeze them hard enough they will cave. They may lash out a few times but they will cave. Otherwise they risk being toppled.

All we are saying in this is that we need to refit some of our missles. We're not saying that we cant do it... We're saying we just need to pump them up a bit more, which we're very capable of doing and more than likely, in the act of doing so now.

I dont think there is a "fear" from anyone but Israel at the moment. ...still, I really dont think Isreal is worried that the cituation can be handled. I'm sure we/Israel are quite capable.

Besides, that may be something our Government may be putting out there to test the hand of Iran or to bluff in wait of their stumble.

I think Iran needs the bomb. They will get the respect they need and won't be under threat from Israel or the US.

They get pushed around too much and endure constant harrassment. No country deserves that.

Having a nuke got North Korea the respect it needed. Hopefully it will work for them too.

No country should push around another.

It is propaganda that our top of the line BB/penetrators won't work. They will. A 30k lb BB/penetrator can and will hit thier underground facility. If it doesn't wipe it out completely it WILL cause the facility to collapse just from the shifting ground around it. It is being put out there so Iran doesn't continue to shuffle it's program around. Airstrikes of that magnitude require a stable intelligence report to sort out all of the logistics and tactics involved. It sure as hell won't be a one bird show when it happens.

Here is a little info on the MOP

2 B-2's, each carrying a MOP, staggered release, 1 target ,don't care if it is 5 miles down.

are you saying a nuclear strike?

No it is a massive ordinance penetrator. 30,000lbs each. Conventional explosive. Penetrates up to 200ft before detonating. Though that is a publically available stat, some estimates claim up to 1200ft. unofficially. GPS/laserguided. The shockwaves alone that would radiate from the first detonation would pretty much fug-up any delicate equiptment in the bunker the second one may even make it inside at 2 miles down. Mind you I am not picking sides in this merely commenting on the military aspect of it. Massive Ordinance Penetrator

Would there be fallout if we hit nuclear reactors?

Cannot say no. A variety of factors would determine that. Strength of the containment vessels that house the radioactive material, if any of it gets aerosolized, etc. Best case scenario, it all gets entombed and fused so no recovery could be made. Worst case the Iranians cut corners on the containment vessels and it get aerosolized in the atmosphere.

I believe that sequencing the ordinance as you have stated would be even more devastating. The second bomb being dropped and penetrating in the first 20 seconds after the first, the ground would still be in an almost liquid state and the second would definitely penetrate much deeper! Anyone or anything down there would be toast. I doubt any of the very sensitive equipment would survive and at the very least be radio active from the release of the material down there!

Is there a sure fire way to know though how many facilities we have to hit? Doesn't Iran have the S-300 radar from Russia that can his a B-2?

Why Everyone is SO afraid of Iran..

OP, you are way off. Everyone is so afraid because MSM has filled their heads with garbage about Iran.

To somehow suggest a US military inferiority in any way compared to Iran's is ludicrous

Not sure how many they would hit. It would likely be a joint U.S./Israeli operation with the U.S. hitting ONLY what was thought to be the weaponization sites while Israel would probably hit the other facilities. That particular radar system is purported to be able to penetrate the passive stealth systems but ongoing upgrades to the active stealth and jamming systems as well as a few well placed Tomahawk and or HARM missles would create a corridor. Make no mistake this will be a surgical strike but it will be a massive strike meant not only to cripple the nuclear program but also to force Iran to the table with a debilitating assault. I wouldn't be surprised if a couple of Iranian Revolutionary Guard sites and airfields were on the list.

I wonder how much Isreal could help if Iraq would not allow fly-over rights.
