Hey guys, today I wanted to share a story with you from my native Liverpool. There is many accounts of ghostly happenings and time slips in Liverpool but the story that sticks out most to me is that of "The Rodney street spectre".

It is said that the ghost of William Mackenzie wanders the area and has been seen occasionally. In life, Mackenzie was said to be a serious gambler. He lost fortunes gambling. One day he gambled against the devil and the devil took his soul as payment. The devil said to William "I will take your soul when you are buried in the earth". William, being sharp-witted, left specific instructions for how he wanted his body to be left when he passed. It is said that inside his tomb, his body is sat upright at a table, holding a winning hand of cards. His spirit now wanders the earth as it cannot rest.

My main reason for posting this story though is his tomb. It fascinates me. I have never seen anything like this in the resto of the area. It is unique. What do you guys think of it? I know some members are sensitive to energies and emotions, do you pick anything up about it?

that's a great story , the devil loves his poker, it reminds me of a legend in scotland about tam dalyell he beat the devil on several occasions....not in the end tho

To me theres seems to be something very masonic about the tomb. I'm not sure what the symbol is above the tomb as the cemetary is closed off from the public.

thanks for posting.
interesting form of "gravestone" and the story is creepy. is the devil real ? what does it actualy mean, when the devil takes a soul ? where does the soul go, and how is being a soul in hell ? what makes the devil able to take the soul ? do you have to make certain mistakes ?
really interesting.

I'm sure I've been told that there are secret passage ways down there? I will have to have a little read up to recap!

I remember my Grandparents telling me this story when I used to stay over as a child, they lived around the corner!

A great blast from the past!!

Sorry!! I may be getting myself confused with The Williamson Tunnels and The Cathedral

I will have to visit family for an update, in the meantime I will see if I can find anything online.

I did look into the Tunnels a few years ago but anything I say will be rusty, so I will keep quiet until I back anything I do say up!!
