Basically, the story is based on the idea that Alcatraz was closed because all of the prisoners and guards simply vanished instantaneously.

Excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject, but was there ever a real reason why it was closed?

I don't think this has aired in the UK yet, but being the fan of Lost I was I am interested.
How does Jorge Garcia handle the lead (is he the main lead character?) and how does he do at not being Hurley?

I think they closed it down cause it got to expensive to run the prison since they had to ship everything to the island.

Hurley is Hurley - not the lead Sam Neil is but he does a nice job on the show.

So far i like it and i hope it will get better.
Sam Neill is just awesome (he always is),the female protagonist is ok,although as a character she reminds me of Olivia from Fringe and Doc is a very nice addition to the cast(geeks RULE!!!)

The stories are good so far,i like the flashbacks and although it's premature i think that Sam Neill's partner (the one in the coma) knows exactly what happens.I don't think she was lost along with the rest, because in the first (or second) episode when young officer Hauser found the empty prison, back in the 60s,there is a scene when Lucy shows up and asks him if he can keep a secret(or something like that).

Yep, his partner definitely knows something.

In real life, the prison was closed by RFK, due to its high cost (nearly $10 per prisoner, compared to $3 per for other prisons) and due to a lot of salt water corrosion in the buildings.
