Why does this happen!!!???

I'm going to try and keep this short so....

A friend of mine is in prison for something that happened with her and her husband. She was not at fault, but I won't get into the details as it infuriates me and just makes me LOATH the judicial system.

So, her mother was granted custody of her two children but..... and this is the REAL MESSED UP part. My friend's husband's EX WIFE asked for and got visitation of the kids, not even related to her in anyway shape or form.The kids have never met her, ever. The man had been divorced from her for 20 years prior to his death.

Now, for one, why on earth would a judge grant visitation to a woman the children have NEVER met?
Two, this woman's home is infested with fleas and ticks. It has garbage strode all over the yard and every where on the inside. (this is not a secret, everyone in town knows this woman and the house she lives in). The children come back from their visitations with this woman COVERED in fleas and tick bites!
My friend's mother has taken pictures of this, contacted social services and a lawyer, and NO ONE CARES!

I am just so mad at this crap! I just don't understand how this is acceptable. I am so amazed at how her case is being ignored and brushed under the table, it's just a testament to the corruption of the system. These kids are suffering and there is nothing anyone will do. My friends mother is beside herself, and cannot understand why no one cares about the welfare of the kids. The kids are telling her how horrible it is at the woman's house, and how she doesn't give them anything to eat, doesn't let them brush their teeth or take a bath...the list goes on...

I mean, WHAT IN THE HECK is going on with these people! AHHHHHH!!!

Why has the ex wife even come onto the scene? The grandmother should make a stand and tell the ex the kids aren't going anywhere near her or her house any more.

By the sounds of it, it may be the only way to get the attention of the authorities.

Something realy odd here. She's not related to them and never met them. Whats to stop me asking the judge for access?

A judge granted this woman custody even though my friend's mother begged them not to. That is what makes me so mad about the situation. The court is allowing a total stranger basically to have two children for two days, for no reason. This woman showed up asking for visitation a few weeks after her ex husband died, before then she was not in the picture ever.

That's pretty twisted. Take it to court? Cue in people saying they are better off with the lady as opposed to being in a temporary foster home(or in the best place with family they DO know THAT won't DRUG them) that will certainly drug them up.

Apparently you can, and they'll give it to you. I'm sure you would be better than this woman. Like I said, this is a small town and for whatever reason they don't follow any judicial system I have ever head of.

It would seem to me that your friend has not given you all of the details, in fact may have given you some disinformation.
Not everything is always as bad as it seems.

Maybe, for the children's sake, someone should befriend this woman. Maybe bring a gift basket of kid friendly foodstuff and shampoo and soap, pillows and blankets, to make her home more "their home" too.

Maybe some family and friends could offer to "paint the kids room" as a way to get in to clean it up. Once in, if you find drugs or porn, you can get the authorities involved at pace. Go to Goodwill and buy some clean cloths for them to keep there, as a way to "drop by." The next week bring some books and magazines, for her and the kids.

You may find that this lady is a good person trying to help in a bad situation, and just isn't a good housekeeper. If there are fleas and ticks, she probably has pets. Kids love pets, maybe arrange for them to get a bath at a groomer, as a gift.

The current judicial caste known as the "Family Courts" is completely unConstitutional. There is no due process nor is there trial by jury NOR is there any recourse of the decisions made there.

Do a bit of research regarding the Bolsheviks about how all of this began and has become acceptable to us regardless of the complete tyranny it represents. Make note of the devastation it caused to their way of life.

Why does this happen? Because we allow it to happen. We know the cure but apparently haven't gotten to the point where we are ready to implement it.

I have reasons to believe and trust in what my friends mother is telling me. She has nothing to gain by telling me anything that wasn't true. I can't do anything to help this situation, I live 3 hours away. My brothers went to school with this woman who asked for the visitation and have said that she was a real big crack head back in the day.
I don't really care if this woman is Mother Teresa , her home is filthy and these kids are suffering for it. I just don't know why social services doesn't want to at least go any have a look at her place.

There is no easy way to go involving every social issue this country will face. They must of thought it was a good thing for these kids to visit this woman. I'm not sure if because of your hatred your feeding us untrue facts(About The Woman), but from my point of view this story is missing details of the relationship between the kids and this woman.

Your post seems like it has much hatred against this woman, which will cause someone to "exaggerate" oppinions about someone else. I know your a fellow ATS member, but this doesn't mean your immune to these, so I'm going to go out on a limb and say it.

I'm also sorry if i'm wrong, and if this woman is as extreme as you say I feel very bad for your friend, but i'm not so sure this lady would be bad for the kids as much as you would like to think(So Your Friends Kids Don't Have To See Her).

I never said I hated this woman. I hate the judicial system. I just don't understand why the system would allow her visitation of children that don't know her. The kids coming back with flea bites all over them its just icing on the cake. Social services won't even open a case about it. To me, the children are in danger, and that is what makes me so angry over the whole thing. It's like a judge granting a stranger visitation of my own children. It's obscured!

Separate that from the "will drug up foster home intention" ... (or in the best place with family they DO know THAT won't DRUG them).

I should point out that the children live with their grandmother who fought furiously to get custody of them. The courts wanted them to go into foster care at first.


I really appreciate everyone's input, this is just one of those things that bugs me to no end. My friend has been my friend since the 4th grade (we are both 27 now) and to see her and her family in this situation breaks my heart. I try to put myself out of it, but that is easier said than done.

I've given this some thought and I still say there is something not right about this.

I actually misread your post a bit(sorry), I thought you said something along the lines this woman always had fleas and ticks on her or something(didn't see it was related with the childrens bites), which would be hard to notice. I guess we would all have to meet this lady to get the full fledged situation. But, I agree, the system may be wrong in this case.

Exactly! That is the infuriating part about it all. She was just the ex wife of their father and that's it. They never knew her.
