Seals can swim better maybe.

I don't know, I would bet on a Force Recon Marine foremost personally.

But a swim off between the two would be worth seeing.

Fixed it, thanks, but how would you feel if Iranian special forces were near the Florida keys and 20-30 miles off the coast of the USA.

I wouldn't be very happy about that so near and in is the same difference to me.

Really? So if the dog goes poo NEAR your house is the same thing as the dog going poo IN your house. Hmm..

It is cute how wound up you guys can get, when you all know that tomorrow when you get on to check ATS, this article will no longer hold merit and on to the next one we go; "US Navy saves Iranians from big bad pirates"

NOTHING IS GOING TO HAPPEN! If it was, it already would have. Tensions are not increasing, heck, there isn't even any tension anymore? Iran agreed to have their nuclear facility looked at. Stop these insane, warmongering threads. This is not news! Even if we put our entire army in the heart of Iran, nothing would happen. Iran won't fight us, we won't fight them, and China won't let either happen. Grow up, stop preaching war and start preaching peace. How many Iran/WW3 threads are you going to put up?

I agree. We'll never be openly invaded by hostile forces. We might be economically invaded, or just plain sold out, but we won't ever have troops show up on our shores.

I wouldn't be so fast to agree with that. I think the Red Dawn type invasion is possible. They could bring everything in on Wal-mart container ship's

Source on Iranian troops that close? How would they even get there? They don't have a blue water navy dude, they are local around their own waterways.

Does it really matter when we have thousands of Iranian agents already here to attack vital targets? It is well know that Hezbollah and Hamas are scattered throughout the U.S. with plenty of cover and help.

You have got to be joking? Bottom line is it all comes down to the individual at that point but Seal's love the water as that is where they operate most. They have trained they're body's so much that they do not even get hypothermia unless were talking a day in the cold water.

I wonder what would happen if/when the time comes that we (the U.S.) attack Iran and invade, and they refuse to retaliate or fight back. It would make a huge fool of the aggressor countries and the true motives for the conflict would soon after become clear.

I would correlate a bombing run with Mexico to blow every last one of them to bits. This is what most any U.S. citizen or President would do. Thing about it is, that's exactly what the U.S. government wants. For Iran to make the first "official" blow that they can spin into propaganda.

Of course there would be commando's in the area doing recon and possibly more. That's what they are for! They get inserted behind enemy lines with an objective ranging from simple recon missions to sabotage to assassinations etc. This is no surprise to any of us who know how Speccy-Ops work and what they are responsible for. What DOES come as a surprise is that they are actually admitting this (to a certain extent).

It is unlikely, for instance, that JSOTF-GCC killed Iranian nuclear scientist Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan last week, an assassination the U.S. has firmly denied any role in and for which the Israelis, reports Eli Lake of Newsweek, are all but openly taking credit.

Yeah that's very unlikely. We would either have to thank Mossad for that, or the CIA's SOG.

SnF for you OP. I always enjoy your posts and threads!

In a case like this with Iran.
Special forces like this seal team would be used to extract agents already in Iran.
I dont see them being used to penetrate Iran in any other way, since its public knowledge that they are already present.

There is a massive difference between to Iran (your title) and near Iran (article title).

And of course there are elite SEAL teams nearby, it goes without saying really...

Wouldn't make much difference tbh. One small team of mean or indeed even an entire SO unit does not win a war. If we saw large formations of infantry and armor being mobilized... that would be a different story.

The seals will not swim they will use the SDV to get there quick and fast.

I do not know if recons have a under water delivery vehicle, i should say sub.

The SDV stands for Seal Delivery Vehicle.

At this point in time. Its to late to deliver small units by sea to penetrate Iran. Sonars are probably working at a major high right now all along the coast line. And seals know very well how painful sonar activity can be.

Land based sonars are also very hard to swim past without being spotted, Seals know this very well to.

Well, If Iran were fighting a war in Cuba or Haiti, I suppose I wouldn't think too much of it. Since the U.S. is fighting in Afghanistan, Pakistan and shhh....I'll bet we're still doing things in Iraq regularly...it doesn't surprise me that SEALs are in the neighborhood.

If they were there to raid Iran though..they probably aren't anymore. Special Forces types take security real seriously, I understand. Having their potential plans broadcast as headlines before something happens assures a repeat of the Iranian Hostage Rescue disaster.

I understand they are getting really close. But that doesnt mean anything. We are constantly moving troops around , shipping military cargo, etc etc. Let me know whenever we are actually on there land. Then we are talking. Other words its just theory and speculations.

How would I feel? I think its irrelevant because that possibility would never come to pass. Our government would find some way to turn it into another "what's good for us is not good for others" type-scenario. Such as what we're doing with nuclear proliferation.

please tell me that this is sarcasm im in the military USMC and i believe that the SEALS are the best SF in the world not just the US armed forces

just to be selected to be a SEAL is probably the toughest training you will ever go through, sure MARSOC, Force Recon, Delta and Green Berets are also tough as hell but there nothing like the SEALS

as for SF being deployed to Iran, its already been said in this post but ill say it again " SF operating in the persian gulf"

"face palm"

this is no secret to anyone
