So why didn't ATS follow suit?

Don't give me the BS jive that ATS needs to stay up and running to inform everyone. I could guess Wikipedia informs more people on a daily basis.

We trust you ATS to be a small bit of shimmering truth in a messy messy world. So when you tell us youre not involved with TheMan, we believe you(mostly).

So why didn't ATS follow suit?

Is it profit driven?
Website click driven?
Were you forced to?
Do you somehow support SOPA?
Are you just non-conformist to be cool?
Did you forget today was the day?
Were you figuring on another opportunity In the future to do it bigger and better?
Is this site actually run by the CIA?(not that you would tell us even if it was)

So why didn't ATS follow suit?

Please, me and a few others would probably love to know.
As this might either keep me as a user, or keep me from coming back.

SOPA and the other Bill is Mind Kontrol manipulation....

Eventually they will hit a nerve and draw everyone out of the woodwork. Its all manipulation.

The skinny:

None of it is real. None of it.

Laugh at the rulers....they have no power

It's actually NOT about the internet.

It's about your freedom of speech, your rights and the theft of those rights from a few in power. The net going from being powered by people to Govt. control is what's at stake here.

The internet is just one small part of it all. If this doesn't matter to people, then the RFID police won't matter to them as well.

Looks like the plan is coming along nicely...

Peace

If ATS followed the protest, then I'd have to like.. go outside or something
not happening sir. Probably because everyone on ATS is quite aware of SOPA, so it may not be necessarily needed. Also the little screen that comes up pretending to be a ban is also a form of protest.

I'm sorry but that's a bunch of weak crap!

Maybe they should cover this site in cotton and call it a sheep

Sometime you find a thread that makes you want to pull your hair out with its wisdom.

I thank ATS staff for getting that great information thread out. It got me off my butt working to inform others and tell my legislators what I think.

Enough said.

Beause ATS is a very important discussion board and alternative news source to a lot of people involved with stopping this bill.

It's kind of counter-intuitive... Think about it:

"In protest to the government trying to censor us, we are going to basically censor ourselves by shutting down for the day."

Though I do understand where you are coming from, I'll pass on that.

I said in my first post I cant accept that answer. Not from ATS.

Blacking out ATS would've been a wake up call more so than you could imagine.

The statement would have been "continue to sit on your hands people, and this is what will happen"

Besides, ATS had weeks prior to get the message out.

So don't give me that line, I ain't biting.

Why didn't ATS follow suit? I don't care how many people get upset with me, I WANT TO KNOW

ATS is all about generating revenue. This site is like one giant advertisement, I usually don't even tell people to visit here because the amount of ads is almost ridiculous..

And isnt it so convenient that just as your reading a thread about the scams big pharm are pulling, you see an ad about lipitor?

It always seems like they have an ad at the exact time you're reading about that thing and getting pissed off. The ad, then in turn, pisses me off even more, as it seems like your arrogance is shoving my nose in it.

ATS leadership has shown their stance against SOPA through a unique ad that appears on your screen once every 24 hours. I thought it was a well executed idea.

Besides, everyone's making a big deal about Wikipedia going down, but they aren't down, with a little timely use of your Esc key you would discover they are anything but offline and is still easily accessible right now.

Look, you enjoy ATS for free. So you see some ads, and you're complaining. Wrong answer. Besides, don't you have an option to turn off website tracking in your browser if they bother you so much? Finally, did you sign a petition against SOPA today?

So they are just using another advertisement, instead of sacrificing one day of revenue to make a real statement? This sounds half assed to me. Like a "sure we like freedom, but we won't stick our own neck out" attitude.

And hell no I didn't sign an online petition. I was too busy pissing into the wind, or counting grains of sand, or looking for my left handed screw driver to put my name on a dissenter list. Instead I came here and Noticed their site was not blank, and hence wondered If they had lost their balls.

Um...guys, how did WikiPedia end up first in every google search?

Here look for yourself:

www.google.com...

Edit: whoops, they're second. Right behind peanuts.com/

Now i noticed that a few years ago. The question i ask is how?
wikipedia is found elsewhere. So the question is what are they bitching about?

Honestly, my feeling is screw them, let them pull the plug on wikipedia. Dont get me wrong, i like and do use WikiPedia but methinks they forgot where they came from.

You guys just don't get it. Wikileaks having that black screen today has caused MILLIONS of unaware sheeple to learn about the SOPA, of which they had no idea. I saw two girls at work today trying to look something up, and then said, "Oh, what's wrong with wikipedia?" . THese are facebook dwelling chicks, online on their "smartphones" and facebooking and twittering their teeny brains out. Just like everyone else. I told them all about SOPA, and got them to sign the petition on google. THEY HAD NO IDEA.

Not everyone is like the crowd here on ATS. We've all known about this for months. But, 99 percent of the sheeple, DO NOT HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT IS GOING ON.

THe wikipedia black screen caused enough spamming of congress critters that several important ones "reversed their positions" on the bill. They were surprised to find out that piece of paper they were not actually looking at was going to affect some people. Now, whether this is merely more drama and spin, to lead the sheeple to think they actually have some power, while actually playing right into the hands of TPTB, remains to be seen.

Perhaps i was not clear.

There are very few new ideas and when people do introduce new ideas they get ridiculed on the interwebs be it in forums etc.

Now copying original ideas is a touchy subject. No one has a problem with it UNLESS it was their idea. Basically peeps be like "its all good until i am the one getting screwed" and then scream bloody murder.

Stuff found on Wiki is and has been freely available for the simple fact that it was all copied from somewhere but is not copyrighted due to it being in the public domain. It is a good resource but lets not kid ourselves here.

I've done what I could today to make people aware of Sopa and Pippa.

I have blacked out my wordpress blog and directed folks to a video about what sopa will do to us, as well as link them to their politicians which they can contact.

I've had more hits on my blog today than any other day I have had it.

Just my little part that I can do to make people aware.

They need toDeny Ignorance!

ATS did do something, and half of you freaked out like paranoid zombie robots thinking SOPA was already in effect without even reading the WHAT IF in the corner.

essentially we are all looking for the same thing, so to ridicule one, is to ridicule us all?
