Since January 11 I have been hearing scratches above my bedroom at night. Loud enough it sounds like its in the room. I know you will say its mice or rats but I have been up in the roof, the beams are full of fiber glass an I have checked under it all for droppings or holes, any sign of animal and there's nothing there. I can hear things running along the room, but would birds be out at night between 11.00pm and 2.00 am?? I hear things dropping slowly down the side of the wall, my house is semi detached and my room is by the outer wall so what could be making that noise. There is a metallic noise coming from inside the room in the same corner, like a quiet light tinkery noise. It doesn't sound like anything you could imagine. Other strange things have happened, my cat was staring at a wall in the kitchen where the clock is, he darted out the catflap, and the clock jumped off the wall leaving the nail fixed in the wall tilting upwards, so now way it slipped off. A' game show' buzzer noise sounding loud in the kitchen. We don't have any definitive answers to what is going on, if anyone could offer an opinion.

It might be a squirrel or another rodent coming in on a night time it happens a lot in the UK.

but the clock thing is a bit spooky! is there a mirror near the clock that the cat might of seen its own reflection and got spooked mine used to do that

Yeah. lots of birds are up at night. I have this one bird that loves to sit right outside my bedroom window and chirp really loud all night long.

I know you said you didn't find any signs of animals, but for what it is worth, growing up we used to have squirrels in our attic. We never could catch them and we never saw any poo or anything. So there were no signs that they actually lived there.

The reason was because they would get inside the insulation and well... All the poo was hidden in there. Yes we had to buy all new insulation. It was destroyed. They nested INSIDE of it.

Try checking for any holes that lead from outside to the inside. No matter how small and cover them. You can buy this metal mesh stuff at any hard ware store and staple or nail it on.

That way no one can get in or out of those holes. If it is an animal, it will stop pretty quickly after that.

Now, I do believe in ghosts and what not, but we must first rule out the logical before we consider anything else. Try what I suggest and if the problem persists... Then we can move on to another possible explanation.

If there is any way you can set up to record the audio and or any visual stuff that may shed some light on it. Let us know if you do and get anything. Sounds really strange! Good luck!

Mice nest right in the fiberglass. You really want to know, set out some baited traps above your room. They can be hard to find. You may have one tiny nest right inside the fiberglass.

I had to throw out a stove once in an apartment I rented. I started smelling something coming from the stove and took it apart to find out the cause. A mouse had burrowed into the insulation through a tiny hole and I only found it when I tore the insulation apart after deciding to throw the stove out as it was very old. I never would have thought a mouse could do that, but it did. The only thing visible was a tiny tear in the foil backing.

don't know if it's this but flying squirrels are active at night and cause many of the sounds you are encountering.

1. Get a professional exterminator to come look for ANYTHING that might be getting in or under your house, you would be supprized at the noise some wild animals can make.
2. After that I would have a paranormal team come in and set up to see if anything out of the ordinary is going on that they can find proof of. They come in free of charge and work to see if they can find anything and help you with it.
You can find groups on the internet for your state that are active in investigating paranormal things.
Good luck.
Oh and if you have been playing with quiji boards or something or someone else has that needs to stop.It will bring in things you will have a very hard time removing.

thanks for reply, well that was my first guess...rodent of some kind, but we have been up into loft space, pulled the lagging up, and there is zero evidence of any rodent or no holes or cracks in brick work, no scratches, droppings ect

plus the rodent hypothesis, cannot explain the internal sounds from inside the room,..inside the room, sometimes feet away from those that are in the room ?1

I've had squirrels, and a nest of raccoons once when I was a kid at my parents house in the wall right by my bed. It did freak me out till I figured out what it was.

It could still be mice or rats since they often live inside the walls, which is probably where you will find droppings as well.

Well you are not alone, reffering to the clock.

Not too long ago (maybe just over a year) we had gone to bed early, locked up etc. Only to hear a massive clashing sound of metal. Ran downstairs thinking someone had broken in, and well... to my amazement the lid had flew off the biscuit tin from the kitchen side. No way it just flew off (but it seemed to have done), it's a metal tin in which the lid firmly grips into place.

Nothing has really happened since then in our house... but i thought i'd mention it as the scenario with your clock flying off the wall somewhat reminded me about this.

I don't put it down to spirits or polturgeists.... although i have no other explanation about "how" these things happen.

Well, i live in Florida now and i have heard banging, slaming against my house, iron gates, iron sounds like locking of gates, huge loud knocks on the side of my house too.

We have a 3 bedroom house, not too large. Not too small. There are no iron gates anywhere here or anyone outside at 2am or 3- furthermore, we have motion detection lights and the lights never come on when this happens

It definately is coming from the outside of the house.

The other day my neighbor came to visit and he said he is being bothered by loud knocks outside his house (without me saying anything) so i said i had experienced it too.

Could be something *demonic* or could be some idiot throwing things or who knows.

We do get up and check and its a bother but we never see or hear anything. Go figure.
Maybe its a Floriduh thing.
