Don't get me wrong - I'm not doubting the OP. Experience is reality for those that experience it. Maybe it was a transformer, maybe it wasn't.
A bit of personal history - when I was 7 or 8 years old I was spending the night with my Grandma. I awoke sometime in the night to several uber bright, painful, blinding flashes of blue/white light. I sat straight up in bed and started screaming (hey, I was only a kid - lol). My grandma came running in and whipped open the curtain. What did we see? The transformer next to the garage was dangling on it's cord near the ground shooting out sparks. That transformer was less than 200ft from the house and we didn't hear it blow - we only saw the flashes. Maybe we didn't hear the initial blow because we were asleep? Who knows? All I know is we didn't hear anything, and it was in fact, a transformer a few hundred feet away. Fun fact - the fire department came and the next morning we found out that a poor little critter climbed in there causing it to blow. RIP, little critter.

Transformer blew. Almost bet ya.

Yup probably. Had one right in front of my house blow. Scary ass explosions of blue light. Especially since he admitted one of the people outside said their power went out and there were firetrucks going. Of course, some people just don't want to accept rational explanations no matter what and he seems to be denying it just because he said so, giving no alternate explanation meanwhile. The entire neighborhoods power not going out doesn't mean it wasn't a transformer, it could even be blocks away and you could still see it. Could be something else I guess but that seems the most probable as of now.

Ask around and I would advise having a charged camera around to film next time the incident occurs if there is a next time. It could have been the transformer once we had one explode here and it created very bright flashes like what you mentioned. Take a walk around your area and look for signs of damage or repairs on the power lines.

I think it was either a transformer blowing up, or it was aliens. Using Occam's Razor, I'll say it was aliens.

Don't you mean... GIORGIO's Razor??

I'll second the creepy train thing! Lol! This morning at about 7am central time the train just would not shut up! It woke us up. We have trains pass through town frequently and sometimes they stop, but this morning it just kept blowing it's damn horn for, like, 15 solid minutes. The sound was stationary, so we knew it had stopped somewhere. I was like "Wtf is wrong with this train conductor?! Why the hell does he keep blowing the whistle when he's been parked for 15 minutes?!" Don't know if it's significant in any way, but it was very unusual for us.

Interesting that the Fire Department is right across the street...(blue flashing lights on a fire truck...) and the OP sees blue flashes...hmmm....yeppers...I am not buying this one!

Fire trucks don't have blue lights. Blue lights are reserved for the police

I can confirm that transformers blowing up can put on a massive light show. A few years back I saw one blow up a few blocks from our place, and it literally lit up the entire night sky and everything in our house. It was one the most spectacular and eery things I've ever seen.

This may be slightly off topic but the OP started the subject of the train horn so hopefully I can talk about this.

I've been hearing what I'm assuming is my area's version of the strange sky sounds off and on for longer than I've been seeing posts about them on ATS. Until recently, I thought they had something to do with a munitions mill that is a few miles from my house but they always sounded a little too close and odd in my opinion to be from the mill.

Just a day or two ago, I heard the same sounds I've been hearing for a while with what I would describe as a very loud train horn mixed in with the odd sky sounds. The train horn seemed to be originating from the sky too. I do hear a train almost every night although I'm not sure how since the nearest train tracks are upwards of 10 miles from here I believe, but this noise was much louder and sounded like it was coming from almost directly above my house. If that's not enough, I called my father who works at a railyard which is where the closest trains to my house are and he said he couldn't hear anything and that there weren't any trains nearby at the time.

Really sorry if this was too off topic but the OP did bring it up.

I have to admit, I do find it a little strange that the OP's first order of business wasn't going to the FD across the street to find out what the incident was.

in my OP, or the next post, I had said that the FD trucks were already responding to another call..

2nd ..

quite possibly the second video !! but, there were 3 that i experienced and from the pedestrian I talked to on the street he said there were 4 these all seem to be singular events.. but, those are the closest so far.

^will do. actually i hate that i have to leave OR, but my dad needs me on his farm. I'm the only one in the family he can trust. His crazy wife and in-laws are causing him all kinds of grief.

Be well. (I notice there are several oregonians on this thread... is it because we think differently? or is it because of the concentration of techies/nerds?)

Here’s the listing of all the members that have experienced this first hand, or were told about it from another source, from around the world; the ~ with out any location means the member didn’t post their location or didn’t have any location on their profile. (The number on the left is the # of members in the list)

1. dgtempe~ Orlando, FL (1 minute ago, same day/time, strange sound like a power flare being set of)
2. RustynailsK~ Montreal, Canada; 1am Tuesday night (from friend)
3. usmc0311~southeast Michigan; started at dark and continued until daylight this morning
4. myeyeshavseen~ Northern New Jersey; about a month ago
5. DaarkSyde2012~Canada: twice in the past month
6. luccadeo~ Arizona: this morning around that time
7. OUNjahhryn~ Ontario, Canada (sky flashed w/o indicating blue/green, but strange): no time stamp given
8. poisonidea~ Montreal, Canada: Tuesday night
9. geryon ~no location:
10. Zulu22~Selma Texas: last year in summer
11. Patriotsrevenge ~ : long time ago
12. dankojudd ~ :
13. nitestrider~Perth, Western Australia: Yesterday afternoon
14. Ryu400~Wisconsin, USA: about a week ago
15. alschuler4~Parker, AZ: 18-1-2012 @ 20:06

Deep thanks to all that that witnessed this and replied. At this point, the closest thing I ‘think’ it was is, the bolides flare; my only question is, the flares in the videos are single events and last night was a triple event within less than a minute. My jury is still out on this one.

I haven’t had time to do any research on bolides flares, but if anyone can give some specifics of the phenomena please do so since this event(s) seem to happening quite frequently as of late...

I’ve taken pics of our bedroom and the curtains we’ve had since we moved in 2yrs ago and they’re dark chocolate brown because I used to work nights and needed “blockout” curtains to sleep; they’re not thick curtains but, heavy enough to shade the sun coming in enough to keep the room darkened. I’ll try and upload them this week before Sunday but my week is full to Sunday and not sure if I’ll be able to upload them till next week. I also took a pic of the position I sleep in to help better get an idea of where I was at the time; I tried to get a shot out the window at an angle I noticed the flash but the flash bounced back and flared out the pic. I’ll try and get one in daylight to get a better idea of the angle I saw the flash.
