Sorry I'm not buying the hoax theory now. Too many people have heard the sound with their own ears. The sound has been heard all over the world. Some person is not going to travel the world making sounds that are vibrating houses and waking people from their sleep. The noise seems to also be originating from the sky.
If this was a hoax, it would be the most expensive and most elaborate hoax in history.
Yes, because uploading you tube videos is so expensive and elaborate. The one thing this hoax is doing is proving what ATS is all about recently - promoting ignorance.edit on 18-1-2012 by Enlightenme1111 because: (no reason given)

It's called the power of suggestion and people on this site are the most vulnerable in the world to it. Some people are outright lying just to add fuel to the fire and others I'm sure "heard something" as you do sometimes when you're outside and just warp it to be the same as these videos because they want to be a part of the story. Suddenly ever sound of construction or whatever else becomes "the mysterious sound heard round the world" because people on this site want to live in fantasy land where cloak alien spaceships are invading the world or whatever else.

There's no proof that this sound is not a hoax either, if you want to play that game. And there's a lot more proof that it is a hoax than not, given that the idiots used the same exact audio track complete with the same birds in several of the videos and it sounds just like sounds in some movies mentioned here... Guess it's just a 1 in 100 trillion coincidence that the same exact audio with the same timings occurred at different times in different parts of the world huh? Let's ignore occam's razor which tells us that the most likely case is it's just someone editing in the same audio to different videos...edit on 18-1-2012 by darkest4 because: (no reason given)
