Anyone expecting this? comes out January 31st (approx 15 days!)

I been losing interest in FF franchise ever since Square Enix took over from SquareSoft, but i hope they correct mistakes they made n FFXIII, that game was too linear and too short.

On the side Note: Can't wait for FFXIII Versus. (7 years in developement, would have the best graphics yet!)

It's crazy how long they have come when it comes to graphics. I was playing final fantasy 12 on the ps2 the other day, and i couldn't believe the amount of detail they provided in there cut-scenes. More realistic then most cut-scenes from the new generation consoles. But I lost faith once I wasted my money on there last game FF13,
The story-line was solid, but I felt a lack of exploration as it leaned more towards "one path".
It was repetitive, lack of variety, (dont get me wrong i loved sash and lightning) but the rest of the characters we're not all that great..

It was so boring that I stopped playing.. hopefully they can bring back the classic systems of ff7 and 8, It just seems that something about FF is missing.. The magic isn't there for me anymore. I guess we'll see.

FFXIII was legit once you reach Gran Pulse and start exploring for once, as for XIII Versus i'm pretty sure i read an article on G4 saying that the project has been scrapped for some time now. Not sure if its been reinstated but i do remember the project being scrapped.

I sorta also hated that Squaresoft merged together with Enix. The FF games that were released on the psx were golden, Final Fantasy X was epic too.

The graphics were dang good in Final Fantasy XIII. But for me, the game got too hard and i lost interest in playing it. I'm more excited for the re-release for FFX HD on the ps3 and psvita.

FF 13 was good. The lack of exploration was on purpose. They wanted to keep the story moving.

The graphics were great. The music was great. I dont see a problem with the game, really.

Well, the thing about ff13 was just that for me. I loved ff8 because you had the choice to explore and go where you wanted. And there was much more customization, Its just hard playing the newer ff's when all you've known was the older ones. Graphics was never that important to me. Like GTA4 they took out all the good stuff and just made it nicer looking, compared to san an dreas it was lame. It really all depends on what you like,
Graphics/Music/Story or Exploration/More Systems/Customization. I would have to go with the 2nd one.

Although FF7 has a cult following (and admittedly I loved it as well as crisis core...)

I still think FF9 was my favorite one to date. I don't know, I was a sucker for the story...

And the black mages are always a nice edition

Edit: I think that is what I liked most about FF9... They went back to the customizable meta system, and the story was pretty sweet

Gran Pulse made the game interesting but it was still short, not enough side mission, i mean they could have easily made a "battle arena" like most previous FF titles have and a ultimate boss to kill in it, that alone would have kept me at it. Also don't forget side games like Blitzball(FF10), Tetra Master(FF8) or Golden Saucer(FF7) and the whole Chocobo breeding, WTH happened to that lol.

Wikipedia link but oh well,

On September 11, 2011, it was announced that Final Fantasy Versus XIII had entered full production. During a weekend’s fan Q&A session, Yoshinori Kitase said: “Type-0 and Versus XIII have of course advanced to 100% development power.”[56] On September 21, Nomura revealed that the game's lighting will be done using Square Enix's new Luminous Studio engine, while the gameplay mechanics will be done by an engine developed specifically for the game

There are all different types of games. I am an rpg fanatic, but i can appreciate a linear adventure too. Beside, Final Fantasy isn't really the pinnacle of open world exploration to begin with. Sure, you can go places, but most of the time there is nothing to see except the pretty view.

FF is nothing like Elder Scrolls.

I like FF13. And even if most don't, then at least Square was brave enough to break way from themselves and take a risk. Otherwise, game like Portal and FF 7 would have never come along.

BTW, since people have been commenting about their favorite FF, mine is FF X. Just saying.

I was not a fan of XIII, it was an alright game. But it was painfully predictable and cliche, the combat system though pretty is really outdated and they need to rethink and redo it completely. I liked the systems they had in FF12 better then the current ones even better then the one they had in 13.

My favorite ff games so far are 12, 7, 9, and 8...I even played ff1 back in the day, and back then it was the coolest thing I ever played.

And the worst ff games in my opinion were 10, 13, and 11. though 11 was a mmo so it does not really count. I played them all and so far 13 didn't deliver even with the shiny graphics...So I dont know about 13-2 it will probably be just more milking $$ by square enix before versus 13 comes out.

But versus 13 should make up for the plain meh that was ff13. If nothing it at least looks like the storyline is more interesting, not to mention the combat system seems to be more free-moving and less turnbased.

Final fantasy 10 was a letdown for you? I thought it was pretty good. To me, Final Fantasyt 10-2 was a letdown for me.

You like FF12 so your opinion is null and void...... Oh btw FFX blows it out of the water!

My Favourites would be....

FF7 > FF6 > FF8 > FF10 > FF11 > FF12 > FF13 > FF10-2... Sorry! Didn't play 9 T-T.

I second the whole whole square soft > square enix notion.

In any case, I heard it was actually good, (which translates to decent in my book) but I'll have to wait from my personal sources to see what they think before I even consider touching FF13-2.

Instead of playing FF13, I could of been playing Suikoden 2 or re-beating Xenogears just for the sake of doing it. That, or actually have gotten started on Planescape Torment. Any one of those alternatives were infinitely better choices than playing an RPG wanna be.

Ahhh.. Playstation had lot of good RPGs, played Suikoden and Xenogears, never heard for Planescape Torment tho... I wish they bring back Legend of the Dragoon, its a gem thats been buried under other games.

--------------

Ill be getting FF games as long as they make em and im financially stable. Only because of all the nostalgic feeling i get from those games that i don't get much from others. I just hope they pull through bring back what made them amazing.

The only one I ever played was FF7 on PS1.
I got stuck on a giant monster I had to battle on a lift.
I never got past the first disc because I ddin't have the strengh or ability to defeat it.
I never even had a previous save to go to, so I got stuck.

Anyway, I downloaded the demo for FFXIII-2. I beat the big thing (which was alomost exactly like the Azuras Wrath demo I downloaded at the same time) and now i'm in a little town and need to talk to people and stuff.
The only reason I put it down is because I have limited time to play Skyrim in the mornings when I get home from work.

Anyone get it?

I'm getting it today!

Game got generally good rating, around 8.5/10.

Game has lots of stuff to do, so they listened to people complaining about previous linearity but story is a bit shorter than most FF titles.

completely given up on FF games.
ffX was the last good game, ffX-2 is where it died.
i enjoyed FF7 crisis core on psp, even though spinoffs and sequels are a bad thing for FF games to have it would have been better than FFXIII.

side note. these strange noises everyones been hearing remind me of cosmo canyon.
