Here are some ideas people are getting to fight hurricanes.

www.cnn.com...

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) -- Amateur hurricane-busters have come up with any number of crackpot ideas to spare Florida from ferocious storms. Among them: blowing hurricanes away with giant fans or blowing them up with nuclear warheads.

Even the federal government got into the act, with three decades of ill-fated research called "Project Stormfury" before shelving the idea of weather modification in the 1980s.

But dozens of ideas -- part hope, part fantasy -- continue to crop up among weather wonks, Internet bloggers and others who think they have come up with a way to spare coastal residents the misery of hurricanes.

Suggestions have included coating the surface of the water with olive oil; towing an iceberg down to Florida to cool down the water temperature; or building large fans on the coast to blow away approaching storms.

Unfortunately, despite all our knowledge and technology, when nature shows her true self, humanity can only get out of the way. Even a nuclear detonation inside the hurricane would only feed it, not break it up (and make it radioactive as well, creating a whole new set of problems)... And that's the most powerful weapon at our disposal.

Right now, hurricane Ivan is literally the size of the state of Louisiana! The eye of the hurricane is the size of the Houston metro area... nature's power is amazing, and frightening.

The government won't endorse this because they know the more that their people are wiped out by natural disasters, the better for them. They will, of course, give the impression they are into fighting these disasters like they have with HIV, and you all know the full story on that.

Speaking of which, AIM News has an article on the idea of exploding a nuclear weapon inside the hurricane in an attempt to slow it down and/or break it up:
