Do you honestly think it's that far of a stretch to consider that certain organizations may use sites like these to influence public opinion?

Of course not, but here is the kicker. No one cares. Influencing public opinion via the internet is the worst way to do it. There is no trust on the internet. And unless you have a lot of reader, there is no audience. Hahah someone said earlier they were disinfo-ing youtube videos. HAHAHA, talk about ineffective disinfo-ing

it's been happening for a long while

Oh ya, right. And this site is so important that they come here in droves. If you feel someone is a disifo agent then ignore them. You can not prove they are and calling them one without any proof is an INSULT.

bent out of shape when someone merely mentions the possibility certainly makes you look suspect.

Hey dude, HOW IS IT SUSPECT???

They tricked the world into thinking the Internet was made for you.

Hundreds of millions of people and allll the countries poured Trillions of dollars into the Internet over the decades.

Now its just going to be pulled back for its original purpose. Weapon System.

The Internet was never created for you, me, or world peace. It was created for Judgement Day.

You're new here so I'll just assume that what this was, was a joke. Right?

Either that or you're making the OP's point.

Thanks Beez

The internet is open to all. How is it possible to infiltrate when there are no boundaries that need to be traversed?

in·fil·trate/ˈinfilˌtrāt/
Verb:
Gain access to (an organization, place, etc.) furtively and gradually, esp. in order to acquire secret information.

Does anyone remember Norman Gunston sneaking into the American base in Australia? That's about the level of these guys. They pretend there's a need to sneak in when everything is open. Then they look for 'secret information' in public forums! Ridiculous! And they expect to get paid for it!

I'm going to become a Dodo hunter. Who's going to pay my wage?

This is Norman Gunston. Imagine him 'sneaking' in the front gate of an American spy base. Unfortunately I can't find a clip of that on youtube. If anyone has a copy of that show please put it on youtube.

I say let them.
It would provide a great opportunity for people to become more interactive on a personal level. Go back to old school, but imo the timing would have to be ideal. It would get people off their asses to experience the world outside of a surveilled computer monitor that they can manipulate. I could see this blowing up in their fat effin faces.

Your correct!

It was Mr Sunstein that made the statement.
This exemplifies the mentality of the the US current administration.

Really?
Really!
You want fear mongering ( typical logical fallacy )?
Then read Cass Sunstein's paper yourself.

Here is a direct "fear mongering" quote from the socialist, Obama Czar himself!
" Those who subscribe to conspiracy theories may create serious risks, including risks of violence, and the existence of such theories raises significant challenges for policy and law."

Actually thought about this for a minute, and does the name Tim McVey ring a bell, I do believe he was a conspiracy theorist. I believe he was executed for his crimes. I also think there was a lot of info on the shooter of Gabriel Giffords being on this website, as well as the manifesto of the shooter in Norway, please provide some info rebutting the facts that conspiracy theorists can be violent.

Throughout history Religion (I'm just talking about Christanity here) has killed un told numbers of people in the name of God, yet they claim to be followers of Christ. Yet if someone is associated with this group it does not make them a Fanatic or Murderer. Nice try attempting to lump people who honestly have questions about events and do not believe what the Cooperate Media or Goverments spew out and put a lable on them.

My point is there are nuts in every movement or sub section of thought. Not to mention all 3 of your examples can be argued not true at all.

You see this is a no win situation for both sides really. The more the goverment tries to send out disinfo agents on to sites like this and try to shut up and kill people who really have questions the more people are going to wake up. They keep adding fuel to the fire they created. Its retarted really if they would just shut up maybe things would die down but instead they go out and prod, poke and disturb the sleeping lions.

Nope disabled vet working part time, not a lot of rainbows in my life, but I hope the conspiracy theory crap brings some to you.

Oh OK I'm sorry for my poor joke

may I ask if you think "the conspiracy theory is crap", then why are you on an 'alternative' forum? I appreciate there are a lot of factual and generally interesting magazine type contributions here which are far from conspiracy, and that you feel strongly enough to voice your opinion based on your experiences on this particular thread. But I too am 50 years old, but unlike you my life has been full of, for simplicity, shall we agree to call them 'signs' which had no proof, and even to me I thought were way off beam, but given time these 'signs' came to pass.
I guess what I am trying to say, that if you had lived my life and I yours, would that make either of us wrong?
I wish you many rainbows
Jane

I unfortunately come to this site sometimes when I am already angry about something else. That doesn't excuse my rudeness, but might explain it, so I too will apologize. While I find some of the "Conspiracies" interesting, I find a lot of folks quoting sources that are not considered to be legitimate by most folks. There are a lot of unexplained things in this world, and I do use this site to point me to further research.

Over 250,000 ATS members. A major discussion board for people who don't waste their lives on sport or entertainment. An unknown number of members with hidden intents and purposes. There's bound to be some violence somewhere just like there's some violence from time to time in any area.

The definition of 'conspiracy theorist' has always been a sticking point for me. A conspiracy is two or more people covertly plotting a harmful act. A theory is a supposition. In my book this makes the label 'conspiracy theorist' suitable for anyone who has ever considered the possibility that a harmful act was quietly planned by more than one person.

I'd be interested to hear about other cultures take on the concept of the 'tin foil hat nutter conspiracy theorist'. Is it a universal human concept or just an invention used to reduce questioning?

Being human beings, I believe that all are skeptical about things at some point, and I would agree with your definition. While there are many, many intelligent well spoken people on this site that question what is going on in the world, there are others that take nothing at face value, and look for a conspiracy in the act of buying beer at the local liquor store because it is owned by immigrants.

When the nukes explode, they release an EMP. This Electro Magnetic Pulse is what wipes out most things with transistors and prevents radio transmissions. The purpose of the net is to provide secure transmissions to our troops. But in the peace time, it also is used for civilian communication, as well as commerce. Cass wants to be able to limit the civilian aspect of the internet.

Here, we have the socialist Cass Sunstein telling us what we want. And telling us that the conspiracy sites are all bad, yet not disclosing the administrations true desire to stop the freedom of speech, or anything that would cast a shadow of doubt or suspicion on them.

I agree yet; the commercial is that of a bank - sending a message out that the institution is offering you and all others that join "ALLY bank" they will actually recieve a pony - because the pony that is being offered is just 1 version; not yet revealed that it a premium product until class b comes into the room and finds out that a pony is being offered to them as a client....no mention of the quality. Ultimately in most financial institutions those with higher deposits are given higher yields as well as perks for chosing "Ally" and those that fall into the lesser (lower deposit level) will indeed recieve the same product; because they are supposedly just as important but in reality they are not but "Ally" must keep up with the fact that they aren't practicing class warfare - it seems they are awarding the more valuable clinentelle vs. those with less value but still offering a reward for becoming an "Ally." Ultimately in the end the banks need every form of deposit available to continue their version of a Ponzi scam - making loans that are just paper and working with annuities, bonds, mortgages, commercial equities/ land among other "crazy, sexy financial faux carrots" as collateral that makes banks the shell games they are. Basically declaring class warfare that one group is more of an "Ally" than the other group is the elephant in the room that has been ignored for as long as Dodd & Frank have been around. OH - ah we can now add Newt into the picture as he make millions off of Fannie and Freddie; as well as his nefarious affairs in his personal and political past dating back to the 70's. Neither group was told what pony version they were going to recieve but they were deceived by stating all new clients will get a pony. .......some reason this post didn't post 6-7 days ago.

“Some “conspiracy theories” recommended for ban by Sunstein include:
· “The theory of global warming is a deliberate fraud.”
· “The view that the Central Intelligence Agency was responsible for the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.”
· “The 1996 crash of TWA flight 800 was caused by a U.S. military missile.”
· “The Trilateral Commission is responsible for important movements of the international economy.”
· “That Martin Luther King Jr. was killed by federal agents.”
· “The moon landing was staged and never actually occurred.””

China’s Google prevents the Chinese people to find out what is really happening out in the world. The North Korean media also censors what it wants it’s people to read and hear. And Cass wants to use their censorship as a paradigm for the “new internet.”
He wants to have the NWO, TPTB or Illuminati (call them what you want) spies infiltrate these site and attempt to discredit the contributors with ad hominem remarks or out right lies. Then they inject their nefarious propaganda by either making positive remarks to the contributors that may also object with the OP or by inserting some logical fallacy.
No apologies here but by studying the symbology in their avatars, they seem to stand out like a sore thumb.
We are asked if we want a free internet and guess what the guy is going to give us.

Alright, hmm. Regarding the OP and it's content - nice thread. Interesting article.

I love a good conspiracy theory. But I'm a book worm and love to research. The creativity of how we all perceive the world around us is complex. I don't think that we will ever be able to change that. So we are stuck with our propensity to want our own opinions heard. Which will create ideas and theories that muddy the waters eventually. The truth gets lost in the details that explode once everyone has a voice in it. The only time a conspiracy ever erupts is when information is withheld. There is no conspiracy with the uni-bomber. There is no conspiracy with lots of tragedies. They develop into theories when circumstances around the situation exist that doesn't make sense. Period.

Besides, If we can't question our own government - then we really are in trouble. The government is for the people, not the other way around. Sheesh.

It's just never been so easy to do before! Get together in large volumes and converse on topics, that is. I love it. Since the invention of the internet (which historically was created by a couple of students who wished to corroborate with each other via the computer
) Since it's become as commercialized and capitalized upon as all other things, it makes a pretty pretty penny. No one will be shutting down the internet anytime soon. It's a multi-billion dollar market.

Anyhow, sorry I get off track, I think that conspiracy theorists have as much of a propensity to be violent as any other person. There are more violent groups of people out there, that is too be sure. However, I agree that some level of monitoring should seek out criminal behavior. Everywhere on the internet. I would like to think that our government has people looking for the predators. Those who would seek to use or abuse others. But that's just me.
