When the Greeks are abandoning their children, leaving them in the care of charities and institutions you know their is a problem. In Greece where families ties are strong and the act of leaving your child with someone outside the family will have serious repercussions in a society that will judge harshly those that do, many mothers simply have no other alternative. As in the BBC post below; malnourished homeless and jobless mothers are abandoning their children. This is happening in Athens and I feel this might be the beginning of a juggernaut that could spread not just through the financially stricken Europe but world wide.

When taxes were introduced to charities as though they were businesses, many were forced to shut down as they simply could not afford to pay running and administration cost as well as tax whilst helping those in need. So as the needy increase in this unstable financial crisis and the available charitable services have declined the problem will not be easily solved and is sure to get worse before any real relief is felt.
