This is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm going to be building my own rather than what is sold in the stores.

Could you please list what else I would need to purchase?

I'm aware of the upper, lower, buttstock and scope; but i'm sure there are many little parts that are sold separately?

edit: also, I've never purchased a gun before, so how does one "know" a dealer?

Well these are FULL kits, in fact they are FULL uppers and lowers, all you need to do is to use the pre attached bolt/pins on the lower receiver into the holes on the upper and push through. no gunsmithing required. but remember to use gun oil on the bolt carrier to keep it good and lubed.

as far as knowing an FFL. Find a sporting goods store that sells firearms or pawnshops firearms stores. (In my opinion mom and pop shops are much better) ask them if they are willing to receive an FFL (most say yes for a fee) then they fax the paperwork to the seller, who ships it to the STORE (i put an emphasis on this) the store calls you for the pickup then they do a background check that is needed for ALL gun purchases. But this is only for the lower receiver. the upper and Bolt carrier group came come to your home.

That is an idea, but the only FEAR I have about that is if your not the best tool and dye type of person you can be seriously hurt. I know it can be simple, bending a stamped receiver, welding here and there bolts, screws, and some guncoating can build a cheap AK.

BUT one little error can KILL or hurt a shooter. not to mention Law officers could give you a ration of S**t if they felt the need.

I want to give people an AFFORDABLE and SAFE way to shoot.the parts here are factory made and inspected.

Or, you could take that same $650 and buy the stuff (tools included) and build an AK out of a flat. Upside is that now that you've got the equipment subsequent AKs will run you ~$250.

Twice the rifle at half the price.

Link(s) or ban... Haha, I want an AK over an AR. (simply over reliability)

So, prove me right and make me a happy guy. Please

I am at work so i will post the link in a seperate thread in the weaponry forum when get home in about 3 1/2 hours. Please send me a pm in case i forget.

If you're intelligent enough to assemble an AR from a stripped lower, you can safely build an AK. If you get a good parts kit (like a Romy-G, or Romanian Guard rifle) and take your time during construction, you can get exceptional accuracy out of an AK homebuild.

If loaded with quality ammo (i use hydroshoks in in Tabuk configuration) i get just a hair over 1 inch groups at 100 yards.

I'm a Mechanical Engineer, so I don't think assembly will be an issue - Unless the components just have horrible fitment or production quality, LOL

Will do, PM sent! Thanks bud

WISE choice!!

Plus you will have a rifle that doesnt JAM half-way through every magazine!!

Relying on an AR15 to defend yourself from scum may get you beaten over the head by your own rifle when it JAMS up and the criminal takes it from your hands.

Better wear a helmet if you use an AR15 to defend yourself.

Guys, I apologize. I won't have the writeup finished tonight. My roomie (who is also a mechanical engineering major) is now building one and I got off on a tangent because I can't talk and write at the same time.
It's about half done but I went through legalities and stuff too.

Possibly tomorrow.

I know the AR gets a bad rap for jamming, but I think people tend to over indulge it. I had a AR in the Army and it never jammed, AR's just need a little TLC to keep shooting, and to be kept clean after shooting.

The AK is amazing I will NEVER deny that FACT. simple blow back piston action is perfect in all its simplicity.

I always say "An AR for any place on earth, an AK for when you want to fight on MARS and EARTH. I love the AK, With this forum I just wanted to show people they can afford a decent AR.

I COULD find an AK for 380-700 dollars- many are WASR's- some are garbage, AK action aside, some triggers "bite" the shooters, some have bad sights, and others are cheap in the finish.

In America we HAVE freedom of choice AR or AK. I only wanted to share my discover of an affordable AR with NO gunsmithing needed, attach the top to lower and enjoy.

I hope I get to see the post I'm very interested in your AK project, I wish I had the tools to build an AK like that, but sadly I'm not to talented in metal working.

Or as I said better safe then sorry my friend.

If anyone is looking for a Tan style AR-15, I'm selling parts that may suit your need.
Theres a picture available at the link demonstrating what a potential full construction would look like.

The trouble with mixing and matching lower recievers is that you may get some excessive play between the upper and lower. You may find yourself in the middle of some expensive trial and error. I currently own the new Sig Sauer M4 and it is quite impressive. Sig has eliminated the play completely and also have an ambidextrious magazine release and safe/semi switch. The switch is still operated with the right thumb but the position can be viewed from either side. I paid right around a grand, but the piece of mind is worth every penny.

I did a lot of research on scopes and I found a Barska Swat Sniper 3.5 10X40 for 174.00. This scope is awesome. It is ruggedly built, water proof, fog proof, and shock proof. It has an illuminated mil dot reticule which is adjustable to 7 settings. Check out Barska.com. I bore sighted it to get it on paper then dialed it into the crosshairs. I have a 1/4 inch group at 50 yards and about a 1/2 inch group at 100 yards using NATO 5.56 FMJ Ball 62 grain ammunition.

I spent 8 years in the Army and served in Desert Storm. The Sig is far superior to my old A1 and A2. If you want a real nice weapon without any hassles and don't mind spending a bit more, I highly recommend it.

My gun dealer said yesterday that he will order me the S&W AR15 for 650. I will take him up on that!

Really? 650? where did you score such a good deal? please send me a link I'd like to see that. S&W AR's are prized among shooters and at 650 you can't do wrong, unless, its the model without the forward assist, then be careful.

This is something I may have to try. I own an SKS and I am satisfied with it. But the accuracy of the AR-15 is much greater.

You know what you can do with an SKS for a fraction of cost, some gunsmiths or factories can mill out the standard 10 round magazine so you can load it with AK-47 30 round magazines its cheap and easy! then buy an assult rifle kit (TAPCO makes a really good one) that will give you a pistol grip folding butt stock and some you can add a piccatinny forearm for a laser aimer now THAT would be neat.

Or and AR.....

But look into it, my motto is save cash AND have a good gun for all around needs and a tactical SKS isn't too bad either.
