at the cricket 2 days ago...

Bring back Bob.. the world needs you!

For those who don't know, Bob Hawke (82) is a former Australian Prime Minister, who held the Guinness Book of records for sculling a yard glass of beer (11 seconds)

Now if all these creepy old corrupt sellout evil world leaders would take a leaf out of Bob's book and stay in touch with the common man, this busted up planet might stand a chance!

mods move if ya want... but go easy.. just a bit of fun

I agree bob hawks is a champion, skolling beers at the cricket age 82, but this story was all over the mainstream news. Hardly top secret, let alone ATS!

Well, it's big news here in Australia.....Bob Hawke would make even Obama blush! Perhaps Bob Hawke is what the USA needs right now as President?

One day the Americans will understand what a good leader is......

it's one who is not afraid to throw himself in to large crowds with little or no body guards and skull beer with them (given to him by a bogan) without any shame nor care for the world!

I reckon Ron Paul comes pretty close..

Such a shame he has the entire corporate elite against him... even if he did get the votes despite the smearing and public apathy, they would still fudge the numbers to stop him.

But we can dream eh

He's an ex PM and arguably an Aussie icon. You can bet your bottom dollar there's tax payer funded security around him even if you don't see them. The cops wouldn't have been the only ones.

What a champion though. 82

I dunno man, i can only spot 2, maybe 3 cops and he's walking through a tight packed crowd.. he doesn't need security because he hasn't given anyone reason to hate him..

I just love that in a totally spontaneous moment he took a beer from a complete random stranger in a massive crowd and drank it... i couldn't name a single other world leader or former leader who would feel safe doing the same.

Not the first time he's skulled a beer...

His academic achievements were complemented by setting a new world speed record for beer drinking: he downed 2 1/2 pints - equivalent to a yard of ale - from a sconce pot in eleven seconds as part of a college penalty.

en.wikipedia.org...

At least he knows how to relate to the average Aussie.

I know exactly what I'd like to do with Gillard and yard glass. And no it's not sexual.

Maybe, maybe not.......but not a single true blue Aussie or Kiwi would even consider hurting the guy; we all love him even if some of us did'nt agree with all his policies and those who are as old as I am will recall interest rates were at 17% during his reign but we still loved him as a down to earth bloke with a wonderful sense of humour, he was and still is true blue in every way.

When they put security on them I don't think it's the Aussies or Kiwis they're thinking about. A PM or any national leader of any country makes enemies in the world and just because they stop being the leader it doesn't mean they stop having enemies. In fact I'm sure I remember reading when he was in office that ASIO got wind "wire tap, informants whaterever" of a discussion of a hit on Hawk from some foreign group.

I HIGHLY doubt Mr Hawke had any security besides the cops, and he doesn't even need them.
