Gingrich singles out Blacks in "food stamp" remarks

The NAACP is for "black causes" for the most part. If Newt was speaking to them of course he was going to speak of a reality based problem for that demographic..

"A lot of black communities are dependent on Food Stamps in this economy"

The above statement is TRUE.

"A lot of suburban Whites are dependent on food stamps in this economy"

The above statement is also TRUE

"Man, the NAACP should address more issues like Food Stamps prevalent in the black communities"

I am not a racist my any means, I am Native American...if anyone has a right to bitch & cry it is myself and my forefathers. But, the mojority of welfare receivers are black. My black co-workers & friends have told me how to screw the system....they told me to say, you are a crackhead and you will get an apt, food stamps, free health care and a few hundred dollars per month for spending money. I seriously do not understand.

Unless he simply means, in an indirect way, that they should be demanding jobs, which produce paychecks, instead of the "handouts" (as some perceive) the government, and in this case Obama, hands out. That's the only thing i can think of.

Never liked Gingrinch anyway.

Obama promised the world to black people,and Unemployment is Higher,then what it was 25 years ago. If Newt was smart,he would leave welfare out of it,color out of it,and talk about how hes going to bring jobs back to America,not specific ethnic races.Even If the questioning is done by a black person or white person,trying to bait him into making an asinine statement.

Since when is getting people off food stamps and providing for themselves with jobs a bad thing?

I'm not racist at all, But where I'm from that's exactly how it is mostly young black and hispanic kids having many babies to get more money.

Hey at least Newt is reaching out to blacks in a Bill Cosby kind of way.
... but of course, because of his political affiliation, the race card will be thrown in yet again.

The ball is now on the NAACP's side of the court and ifthey don't invite Newt then that would be a clear indication that they would much rather continue to have blacks receiving food stamps while condoning the suckling of the All American teet.

Let me preface this by saying, I don't care for Gingrich in the slightest however, I think you're taking this out of context.
He's hypothesizing about addressing blacks at a NAACP conference and narrowing down a larger scale problem and directing it to his audience. It might be a wrong choice comparison but it's not what you're suggesting.

You know what the real problem is? This world, particularly here in the the US has become extremely sensitive, ultra aggressive and hyper argumentative.

Watch, by the year 2015 there will be a law in place citing that: if you LOOK at someone more than 20-seconds, you're committing an aggressive terrorist crime.

This is specifically in context for speaking at the NAACP, which is honestly mostly black. If he made a comment about speaking at NOW that referenced some of the problems facing women the "sexist" issue would probably not come up (and if it did it would probably also be wrong).

If you take his comments a different way, that's you but it seems rather clear to me. It's no secret or racist to say that poverty and unemployment is a problem in the black community. It's also not a secret that the economy has taken it's toll on a lot of people, hence the increase in social system expenses.

Being pro-job is what it looks like to me, and yeah, it is reaching since it seems only the worst possible connotation was taken from the comment (which is brief and not explained).

Guess what newt, im going to a food stamp appt right now. Why? Because im a college grad who failed to meet unemployment criteria because i was in flippin school. So now i need stamps to survive after getting fired by a jack hole fifty year old, two daya before a $1000 paycheck, instead i got a third. Ive been trying, but you know what, if the country systema cannot help a person in a legitmate bind, then what option do i take......

Do you read? If so you would see that is a pile malarky about black people. So what you know some black people who get welfare, that's not all blacks. No one in my family nor my friends have ever received governmental assistance, we're all tax payers like it or not. So when ill informed people such as Newt and Rick make blanket statements like they're factual they do so on the hopes they reach persons who don't know any better. These people don't talk about what is really ailing this country because they have no plans nor no ability to fix what's wrong, so they grab a stupid topic such as welfare then add black people to it. Never do these politicians talk about the biggest welfare recipients called corporations, no it's easier for simple people to look at one demographic and blame them for the ails of this miserable economy.

No Human Alien the problem with this country is the politicians are allowed to scapegoat by their constituents rather than hold them to the wire on why this country is faced with the current financial disaster and missing trillions of dollars. Politicians are given a pass when campaigning, serious questions aren't directed to them by the "people", no fluff is asked like about welfare. By fielding questions directed towards the candidates he or she don't have to talk about how lobbyists pay them to look out for corporate best interest instead of their constituents. Yes I called welfare fluff because it's a sliver of the pie that is governmental spending and not those big hefty slices that's never addressed by those politicians.

I am not going to hang Newt out to dry in this instance...

He does use the term "paycheck" and not "welfare check" as to imply or infer to JOBS as Jobs being the problem....vs food stamps which many Americans including Blacks are having to survive upon today.

So I will bury the hatchet on this one...

Newt is pulling a Santorum and pandering to people with racial tendicies, simple as that. Santorum made a similiar remark in Iowa and it almost help him win. Now Newt is on the same bandwagon.

Look at your source you linked earlier for what looks like is only Iowa.

Look at the % based on just race.

42% of the black child population are abuse cases
12 % White

Foster care

26% black
5% white.........etc......you do the rest

That is skewed by total population!!!!
