``The Pentagon will abandon its ability to fight long, drawn-out wars like the ones fought in Afghanistan and Iraq as it enters the next decade.

Instead, the size of the U.S. military will shrink, as expected, and the Pentagon will focus its efforts on the Pacific as China's military and influence in the region grows, according to the eight-page strategy designed to inform more than $450 billion in cuts to planned defense spending over the next decade.``

Defense News

IMHO this sounds like the stage is setting for a cold war with the Chinese.

Let me ask this:
If TPTB are trying to stifle China, how does the current going-ons in the Middle East benefit their objective? Smoke and mirrors? Any ideas? It just seems to me that all of this military movement and chest puffing is but a show for Joe public.

Let me see if I can translate this from Governmentese and Obama-Speak to plain english:

'The United States has decided to cease the maintenance of a military capable of fighting even a single MAJOR war. Instead, we will now focus on provoking China in the Pacific and we'll be doing this with a Military in decline and under constant cuts and pressure to cut corners everywhere.'

Of course, in the reality Obama would like to create for us, we're to think of China as a 3rd world military power that can barely sail from it's own coast to ours without getting lost or sinking from pure incompetence.

In reality, China has the cutting edge of everything, in every area..or soon will. If they didn't think it up and build it themselves, they simply stole the plans from us and build from there. HOW can China do such a thing and not spent trillions on defense?? Well..I'd guessing that bringing news of cost-over runs into the millions or billions gets the messenger shot in the head in their system. Perhaps we need to try that.. lol... We might actually SEE cost savings for a change.

I'm starting to suspect the warmongers in America won't be happy until they've declared war on every country in the world.

When historians look back they won't focus on each individual war they'll simply see the U.S's foreign policy as "shoot them all and let god sort them out."

Since our own U.S. government appears to be modeling itself of China's, we have to be aware that all of us little folk are in for a big squeeze, no matter who flips the switch first. But just to get you up to speed on China's well-thought out plan for complete world domination, here is a translated article from 2009, in which Beijing clearly states it's intent to split India apart through the destruction of Hinduism, it's most unifying force.
China carves up India

China should break up India: Chinese strategist August 10, 2009 11:09 IST an article (in the Chinese language) has appeared in China captioned 'If China takes a little action, the so-called Great Indian Federation can be broken up' (Zhong Guo Zhan Lue Gang, www.iiss.cn, Chinese, August 8, 2009). Interestingly, it has been reproduced in several other strategic and military Web sites of the country and by all means, targets the domestic audience. The authoritative host site is located in Beijing and is the new edition of one, which so far represented the China International Institute for Strategic Studies (www.chinaiiss.org). Claiming that Beijing's 'China-Centric' Asian strategy, provides for splitting India, the writer of the article, Zhan Lue (strategy), has found that New Delhi's corresponding 'India-Centric' policy in Asia, is in reality a 'Hindustan centric' one. Stating that on the other hand 'local centres' exist in several of the country's provinces (excepting for the UP and certain northern regions), Zhan Lue has felt that in the face of such local characteristics, the 'so-called' Indian nation cannot be considered as one having existed in history. According to the article, if India today relies on any thing for unity, it is the Hindu religion. The partition of the country was based on religion. Stating that today nation states are the main current in the world, it has said that India could only be termed now as a 'Hindu religious state'. Adding that Hinduism is a decadent religion as it allows caste exploitation and is unhelpful to the country's modernisation, it described the Indian government as one in a dilemma with regard to eradication of the caste system as it realises that the process to do away with castes may shake the foundation of the consciousness of the Indian nation. The writer has argued that in view of the above, China in its own interest and the progress of Asia, should join forces with different nationalities like the Assamese, Tamils, and Kashmiris and support the latter in establishing independent nation-States of their own, out of India.

India is the worlds largest Democracy. If we don't support each other, we may all go under that Big Red Bus.

It looks like they think that they can control the hold region while reducing military spending. Very hegemonic sounding.

Hillary Clinton Speech: Americas Pacific Century (Nov 2011)

``What will happen in Asia in the years ahead will have an enormous impact on our nation’s future, and we cannot afford to sit on the sidelines and leave it to others to determine our future for us. Instead, we need to engage and seize these new opportunities for trade and investment that will create jobs at home and will fuel our economic recovery.
...
Specifically, we are moving ahead on six key lines of action, which I have previously discussed in depth. They are: strengthening our bilateral security alliances; deepening our working relationships with emerging powers; engaging with regional multilateral institutions; expanding trade and investment; forging a broad-based military presence; and advancing democracy and human rights.

We support not only open economies but open societies. And as we engage more deeply with nations with whom we disagree on issues like democracy and human rights, we will persist in urging them to reform. For example, we have made it clear to Vietnam that if we are to develop a strategic partnership, as both nations desire, Vietnam must do more to respect and protect its citizens’ rights.
...
And in Burma, where the United States has consistently advocated for democratic reforms and human rights, we are witnessing the first stirrings of change in decades. Now, many questions remain, including the government’s continued detention of political prisoners, and whether reform will be sustained and extended to include peace and reconciliation in the ethnic minority areas. Should the government pursue genuine and lasting reform for the benefits of its citizens, it will find a partner in the United States.

As for North Korea, it shows a persistent disregard for the rights of its citizens and presents a major security challenge to its neighbors. We will continue to speak out forcefully against the threat from the regime that it poses to its own people and beyond.

Our commitment to democracy and human rights is shared by many nations in the region, in particular our treaty allies – Japan, South Korea, Australia, the Philippines, and Thailand. These five alliances are the fulcrum for our efforts in the Asia Pacific. They have underwritten regional peace and security for more than half a century. They leverage our regional presence and enhance our regional leadership at a time of evolving security challenges."

We just needed to "secure" our "interests" and "stabilize" the middle east first before we progressed to our only other true "threat" to "national security"....china.

That's newspeak for dominate and control the vast resources and governments of the middle east which we will need in order to combat china in the future. Now that we have pretty much got the Mideast under control, minus Iran of course...we can gear up for china.

As for Iran......it is the only part of the middleast that is not playing ball with the Western powers. The Arab spring was fairly successful in getting the other significant nations on board, but Iran is now left so isolated that they will not cause too much trouble.....we hope.

Moving on to china now......

the usa is drowning in its own greed , they will soon become the most despised country on the planet.

I dont buy that for a minute. The USA has just backed off to gain some public face and to let the British move in to provoke a fight with Iran. This is why we are sending that new warship to the gulf, its a ship which stands a high chance of survival and can inflict major damage. Mind you, at the end of the day its all propaganda.

"China's official Xinhua news agency said Jan. 6 it welcomed a bigger U.S. presence in Asia, but only if it helped promote peace in the region, after President Barack Obama unveiled a new military strategy.

Beijing has given no official response to the review, but Xinhua said Jan. 6 that the United States was welcome to make "more contribution to peace and stability in the Asia Pacific region", while urging it against "warmongering".

"The U.S. role, if fulfilled with a positive attitude and free from a Cold War-style zero-sum mentality, will not only be conducive to regional stability and prosperity, but be good for China," it said in a comment piece. "

Who are they kidding?

"The United States is increasingly focusing its attention on the Asia-Pacific region, where commanders worry about China's growing military power.

"The People's Liberation Army is the world's largest active military, and is extremely secretive about its defense programs, which benefit from a huge and expanding military budget. "

"The U.S. must realize that it cannot stop the rise of China and that being friendly to China is in its utmost interests," it said in en editorial."
