The government agency that owns the World Trade Center site said Friday it intends to hold Saudi Arabia and nearly 100 other defendants liable for the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people and destroyed the complex.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey announced that it planned to join late Friday as a plaintiff in a lawsuit filed a week ago by Cantor Fitzgerald Securities, a bond trading firm that lost two-thirds of its workers in the trade center attack.

I hope the Saudi's have a good lawyer! Wait a minute, they do! James Baker! Bush Sr's Chief of Staff. W's lawyer for the Florida election (he held the title of "Republican election observer"). Senior Counsel for The Carlyle Group. Appointed by W as envoy, to arrange the restructuring of Iraq's billion dollar debt. Etc.
Here in Reality
James Baker's law firm defends the Saudis against 9/11 families

How does this guy sleep at night? Where are the cries of "traitor" that is so popular these days?

EDIT: Typo

Hey, this is America. Everyone is entitled ti a fair trial and adequate representation. What if Kerry were to be charged for the statements he made against soldiers in Vietnam... He too should get excellent representation, I recommend Johnny Cochran! I can hear it already..."Don't pitch a fit, his words meant sh...." Anyway you know what I mean.

I don't follow you. Are you saying Kerry's comments after Vietnam, is the same, is as bad, as the country that financed the perpetrators of 9/11?

Everyone does deserve a fair trial. A member of both past and current Bush administrations shouldn't be the lawyer for a foreign country, against the Port Authority and the families of the victims of 9/11. A slight conflict of interest.

Heck, I think everyone in America should sue the Saudi's! They caused us psychological trauma and all sorts of problems and they are nothing but trouble. Let's make them give us free oil for life!

Not at all. In fact unlike some of my fellow conservatives, I don't even find them treasonous, just self-serving and in poor taste.

Surely you don't believe tha Mr. Baker himself is representing the Saudis do you?

Baker Botts has over 600 lawyers world wide, including an office in Riyadh. They have probably represented this Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz for a long time. Since when is it treasonous to represent a client anyway. But if you do think it is, you better add these firms to your list:

Wilmer, Cutler & Pickering - Prince Mohammed al Faisal
Kellog, Huber, Hansen, Todd & Evans- Prince Turki al Faisal
Jones, Day - The Binladin Group
Ropes & Grey - Khaled bin Mahfouz
White & Case - The Al-Rajhi Banking Group
King & Spalding - The Arab Bank and Youssef Nada
Akin Gump - Mohammed Hussein Al-Almoudi
Fulbright & Jaworski - Nimir Petroleum

All very prominent US firms representing clients in this case.

Why, I bet if you look close enough you may even find some former Clinton folks working for these firms now.

Conflict of interest? How could Baker, a lawyer not personally involved in this case, nor a Saudi Prince, or a member of the groups that have filed suit, possibly have a conflict of interest?

I hope this answers your question....

An excellent book to read on the subject of Saudi Arabia and terrorism is "Hatred's Kingdom".

Concise, well written. After reading it I bought a few copies to send to friends smart enough to understand, and a copy to lend to people to read.

This should be required reading for Senators and Congressmen.
