Well, last night we watched Rick Santorum turn from an also-ran in Iowa into a top-tier candidate for the Republican nomination by being basically tied for first place with Romney.

This sparks a question in my mind. Should Rick Santorum be the President?

I guess what I would like out of this thread is just a place to voice your opinion on Rick Santorum, discuss his chances and why you think he would make for a good or a bad POTUS.

Personally, I don't think his campaign is strong enough to go much further, it is my thought that he is simply this elections Huckabee, who also did very well in Iowa during the 2008 race only to ultimately drop out of the race due to little support anywhere else.

Admittedly though, I have not thought much about it or know much about him. My only exposure to Santorum has been during the debates. He doesn't really appeal to me from that limited exposure though as I think he comes off as an extreme religious right war hawk.

can anyone speak to his voting record? Any Santorum supporters on this forum? What do you like about him?

Any Santorum haters on this forum? what don't you like about him?

I would like this to be a nice thread to find info and opinion. I am sure many people have something to contribute.

I am not an undecided voter (go Ron Paul!!) Just though we should have a thread on Rick Santorum pointing out his pros and cons, etc...

Absolutely not.

His support was only as high as it was due to the amounts of news coverage in the past few days. That is no lasting support.

I honestly don't think he'd be able to do it.

He won't be. It's already been decided that Mitt Romney is the crown prince.

NO.... waaaaayyy too Right-Wing, waaaaayyy Too Conservative.... Pro War, Anti-Gay rights, Anti-Abortion...Waaaayyy Too Religious.

All of this is not a good mix and is exactly what politics should be against.

Politics is for everyone... politicians should look after ALL citizens.

When you have a scary, religious, right wing nut job like this...

NOT good.

This guy makes Glenn Beck look like a liberal.

Santorum will not be president. If you look at his money and the PACs that funded him, they are directly tied to Romney.

Romney needed someone to help split the evangelical/Christian vote within Iowa so that it would help Romney win Iowa. Ask yourself why Santorum did not campaign in other states as he did in Iowa.

Santorum is designed to be a distraction to help propel Romney.

Mark my words!

Sorry Santorum, if your own nephew cant vote for you because of your "illogical fear that freedom doesnt work", than neither can I.

Quite simply, his imperialistic pro-war agenda, his lack of compassion for anyone different than himself, and his desire to strip more civil rights from US National's (cause we are not citizens), is more than enough for me to say no a thousand times over.

I like the man himself. But he hasn't got a chance.

He should go be a preacher somewhere in Kansas or even Iowa compete with Joel Osteen.

I can't stand him but he could win by stealing the Tea Party's clothing. Thatcher did a similar thing back in the 80s. Ron Paul is a SYMPTON as opposed to a serious contender. He is far too much of an outsider the the electorate is not ready for that.

Obama is a lame duck. I did vote for him but I am being honest.

The frothy lube that is Santorum's voting record shows he is a corporate lap dog of the highest order, with his own mix of religious misogyny Big Brother in the Bedroom thrown in. He's a sanctimonious clown, and he'll flame out in short order. How much pork-barrel and earmarks did this guy vote for himself?

Well exactly, who is there really?

Ron Paul is just awful...

The other candidates have the charisma and charm of a wet rag.

Obama has some good ideas but people just want a change and he's not what they want... and once people start to moan and dislike you, it's hard to win them back around.

The problem is the world is screwed, literally screwed and whoever comes in wont change S***.
The same with Obama.... he inherited a country that was in a dire situation and condition... and has no money, spiralling debts and everybody wants something... everybody is moaning and wanting immediate change.
There is NOTHING he can do and because things haven't immediately improved, he's already done for, people want him out.

Whatever change people want... Ain't gonna happen, there's no money... until the world is back on track and the financial system is back in a stable position, things will continue to suck.

Every country in the world is struggling.

I know, let's vote in some right wing nut job (or Ron Paul) who want to repeal civil rights laws, discriminate against gays and outlaw abortion, because that'll help the economy and make people happy.....er.... how?
Let's create more tension and hatred by having all these BS divisive ideas that get people arguing and attacking one another while we all sit here and get rich off their misery....

I like some of RP's stances and ideas and proposals.... but he wont get any of them passed... except the negative, discriminatory ones.

YAY

I think a more intresting question is does anyone seriously believe that santorum has a real shot at winning, he's just another not romney. Not many people even want him in power most of those who would vote for him only will because they dislike the other options more.

Well, it looks like Santorum's wife had a partial birth abortion. Seems funny how Santorum likes to pose as the most anti-abortion candidate.

freethoughtblogs.com...

wonder what else can be dug up.

I don't see anything wrong with what they did, it was to save the mothers life. The only problem is Santorum has written bills that would call this a crime and have the doctor brought up on charges.

Not to mention the hard stance he verbally takes against abortion whenever given the chance. Another big government hypocrite. I am not surprised though. Wonder if the Iowa voters knew this. I also wonder what his spin on it is.

Santorum voted for NDAA.

He wants to hold me and my friends and family indefinitely, without a trial, and without crime.

No, no I don't think he should have presidential powers.

Ron Paul discriminates against elitists who want to send us to guantanamo to be raped and molested by nazi US soldiers because we were not born rich and in tune to the NWO.
Elitests have feelings too!
