After intervention by the Council on American Islamic Relations, the Defense Department reportedly decided it will now allow Muslim students participating in the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps to wear headscarves and turbans while in uniform.

The decision marks the latest influence by controversial Islamic groups on military affairs.

WND previously broke the story that an Islamic group that has been closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood and was named by the Justice Department as an unindicted co-conspirator in a scheme to raise money for Hamas is the official endorsing agency for the U.S. Armed Forces Muslim chaplain program.

Now is it just me, or will something not look quite right to see an ROTC dude decked out in a turban?

:shk:

I just can't wrap my brain around that turban, at all. Only in Amerika.

Oh Hell No......no no no no nononononono....sorry, let me say again, Oh Hell no, a uniform is a uniform...by definition it is a constant from one individual to another....NO....And we won't even go into the aspect that when a soldier uniforms up, they put their religion in a box under the bed and do their job to protect the Freedom of Religion....for all....sorry, NO....this is worse than everyone going to black berets.

JROTC is in High School, and there is no requirement to enlist, so I see no problem with it. Plus, I dislike the uniform policy that most armies took up after WWI. Before WWI, most militaries allowed for long hair and beards, but because of the close proximity in trenches, clean shave orders were given, and they have just sort of stayed. Histories greatest warriors wore long hair and beards, they also, for the most part, we're able to personalize their equipment so long as it didn't detract from the unit as a whole. Today's military makes everyone look the same and shut down free thinking, so that the soldiers focus on following orders, no matter how awful...

The US military allows Sikhs to keep their traditional head gear and beard... IN the Full blown ARMY not ROTC.

Am I the only one here sees the ignorance of bitching that either New American Citizens, or 2nd, 3rd generation would want to FIGHT AND DIE for their new country?

Seriously?

If its a cultural demand that they keep the attire for religious sake, as with the Sikhs, I see no problem with this at all, if it comes down to better protection in war time I am sure they will don a helmet like the rest.

Not everything that is different than what you see as normal is bad.

Funny how you ignored the word 'allowed'. The article reads that muslim JROTC members will be ALLOWED to wear turbans.

Sorry, but without that word this is nothing but empty, racist propaganda.

I politely disagree with everything you said except the historical aspect.....and then disagree with points.....soldiers have always had 'standards of uniform dress'...all the way back to the romans and further. A uniform is not to hinder free thought it fosters cohesion among the ranks.....it makes you feel part of the unit, to bring your will to muster for the mission along side your fellow soldiers' will to accomplish tasks that wouldn't and couldn't be done normally. You are correct they are not enlisted or officers in a military organization, but the simple aspect of JROTC is to live the ideals of the military culture, they are expected to wear their name tag a certain distance from the pocket.....why? No not to blindly follow orders....but to create a focus on attention to detail....because when the bullets start flying a soldier is trained to be aware to all aspects of the situation, the environment, the hostiles, the mission, their fellow soldier.....These skills are developed by instilling in the individual the understanding that the little things matter....you may not agree, and it doesn't bother me, but ATS has had this discussion before....Our military is trained to be acutely aware of a situation, and to follow ETHICAL orders....how do they know it is ethical, because they are trained in it so much that it is second nature, just like wear to place a name tag on a uniform. Maybe we should throw out uniform standards....let everyone look the way they want...no sweat....Let the trainers teach the soldiers anything they want in any manner they want...that works.....tank driver school....Oh, right, you see wear this slippery slop is heading....The military has standards, and honestly, have never heard anyone complain about those standards, especially appearance before, except the sex thing....But honestly, sex has no business in a unit, that is one of those things put in a box under a bed until the mission is complete. Maybe we should have a more undisciplined military.....but back to your point, they are not forced to be in the JROTC....Oh, and I stood next to a number of soldiers that were islamic, they didn't have a problem with it, why do we have a problem with it now?

No comment on that? Why did you leave out the word allowed? Why do you paint the picture as though it will be required?

The Sikhs turban is a key and integral part of their exercise of faith. The head scarf is not a dogmatic principle of Islam.

I started a thread about this very subject a few weeks ago. Check it out here

I feel like it isn't a religious thing, as much as it is Cultural. In america you don't wear head scarves. And If you do, Damn Right your gonna be subjected to more pat downs and such... You are covering Your Face.....

You can wear a yarmulke in the military. What's the difference? Also, guns and camouflage are already allowed to be worn and that seems to be the uniform of most devout Christians in the south. Again, what's the difference?

racist propaganda.???

You just bought that to the table pal!

SO... If I made up a religion that REQUIRED me to have a half eaten pork sandwich rubber banded to my head inorder to show my belife in a higher power ...

I also require to drop top my knees and shout the word S**TPickle at the top of my voice for 30 minutes three times a day.. The state MUST cater to my needs as IT'S MY religion and my religion requires it.

THE
US of Whatever! UK of whatever... you keep this up .. your OK!

Keep those pens pushing and and those forms filled they will prove your worth!

Keep the ghey’s and immigrants’ in power!!!! don't speak of race it's a taboo subject.

I didnt bring anything to the table. Willfully omitting wording in the op to change the response to it is textbook propaganda. TEXTBOOK.

I'm gonna go ahead and call shill. Quit trying to derail this thread into muslim hate. The thread is about military attire. Allowing people to wear their cultural attire is pushing no agenda. Do you think that it is pushing an agenda to allow jews to wear a yamaka? to allow christians to wear a cross?

The end of your post is indiscernible.

Again, im calling shill.

No. It is a uniform and you must wear a uniform. High school kids get in trouble for wearing American flags but now the precedent has been set that ANY persons CLAIMING to be Muslim can do it. That is the problem here.

CAIR sucks and is one of the most biggoted organizations on the planet funneling milllions each year to kill innocent people through terrorism and at the same time eroding tradition and imposing theirs. Don't believe it, google CAIR and Tampa Florida.
