Allegations are even being made in Russia that the west itself is somehow behind the Chechen rebellion, and that the purpose of such support is to weaken Russia, and to drive her out of the Caucasus. The fact that the Chechens are believed to use as a base the Pankisi gorge in neighbouring Georgia - a country which aspires to join Nato, has an extremely pro-American government, and where the US already has a significant military presence - only encourages such speculation. Putin himself even seemed to lend credence to the idea in his interview with foreign journalists on Monday.

Proof of any such western involvement would be difficult to obtain, but is it any wonder Russians are asking themselves such questions when the same people in Washington who demand the deployment of overwhelming military force against the US's so-called terrorist enemies also insist that Russia capitulate to hers?

Considering the support Putin showed the current US administration after 9/11, shouldnt the neocons be reeled in on this one, just for the sake of decency? Not to mention Russia/US relations???

a) Saakashvili (the georgian president) is literally on the US salary.

b) read the threads about the US-Chechen contacts and asylums being awarded.

a+b= there is a tacit support of the separatists by the US.

If you read through comments by John McCain, he says the leaders of Georgia said they would not exist as an independent state were it not for U.S. support.

Here's a link posted by ZCheng in which Putin mentions the other countries behind the separatists:

MoskowTimes
In his address, Putin chose not to specify what terrorist organizations are waging a war against Russia. But in a clearly emotional outburst he revealed that the Kremlin believes some countries could be supporting the terrorist attacks to try to weaken Russia, whose nuclear deterrent they see as a threat.

The efforts to "tear off a big chunk of our country" are being assisted by those who "think that Russia, as one of the greatest nuclear powers of the world, is still a threat, and this threat has to be eliminated."

Putin did not say what countries he was referring to, but he appeared to have Western countries in mind.

I have no doubt that the US is not behind the school attack.
They would not engage in that type of behavior.
One thing that is possible though is financial contributions which would probably end after this latest incident, if they haven't already.

In the past they have also granted asylum to at least one Chechen separatist, who was then hired by the National Endowment for Democracy.
That organization has funded persons engaging in civil disturbances in Venezuela and probably other countries and I wouldn't find it hard to believe if they also provided funding to the Chechens.

It's hypocrisy at it's worst, our current government uses terror as leverage in just about every situation, to turn around and support the Chechens would be disgusting, if proof could be obtained, it could be grounds for impeachment, hopefully the Russians know the American people (aside from our current, treacherous, back-stabbing administration) are with them in their sorrow, and that the majority are blind to the immense neo-con corruption within our government. Hopefully we will regain our vision.
