The next ``non-lethal`` weapon : riot shield choking you with soundwaves

Future Riot Shields Will Suffocate Protestors with Low Frequency Speakers

It's not the first crowd control tool to use sound waves, but Raytheon's patent for a new type of riot shield that produces low frequency sound waves to disrupt the respiratory tract and hinder breathing, sounds a little scary.

Crowd control tools like the LRAD Sound Cannon emit bursts of loud and annoying sounds that can induce headaches and nausea. But Raytheon's non-lethal pressure shield creates a pulsed pressure wave that resonates the upper respiratory tract of a human, hindering breathing and eventually incapacitating the target. The patent points out that the sound waves being generated are actually not that powerful, so while protestors might collapse from a lack of oxygen reaching their brains, their eardrums won't be damaged in the process. Phew!

But that's not all!

And like Roman soldiers joining their shields to form a large impenetrable wall, these new riot shields can actually be networked together to form a larger acoustical horn, vastly improving their range, power, and effectiveness.

They really are doing everything they can to not ``shoot`` protesters with real bullets...which would start an armed revolution... but really, that's what they are doing.

Oh! Colapsing due to a lach of oxygene...is that all? Then it NOoo problem then. Jeez!! I'm sure that's gonna turn out well. In a protest situation, what's going to happen to those who went down first and are subjected to prolonged exposure? Well, no oxygen for 30 seconds can cause brain damage but the rule of thumbs 4 to 6 minutes. And they don't even know what happens to the the brain inside the skull when blasted with that. They should try to fix why there's a protest instead of waging war against the protesters.

Having been trained in riot control I would say molotov cocktail are extremely affective. These shields would only work on the people that didn't plan on being in a riot situation. It's a good concept but I don't see anything ground breaking here.

Really depends on the situation. When WTO kicked off here in seattle they didn't need the gear in the morning, then it got dark and people started rioting and they definitely needed it. People acting stupid destroying a city for no reason should be stopped, people taking back whats theirs or fighting to over throw a government should use whatever tactics they deem necessary.
