I don't want to take credit for finding this article but it's a good one and a must read for anyone who's on a fence with Dr. Paul's foreign policy. I've stated several times that Iran wants a nuke as a deterrent only. Knowing our history of meddling in the Middle-East for decades would be reason enough. Don't get me wrong...Iran is no angel in all of this either, but out of all the Middle-East countries, they've been the smartest at flipping us the bird so to speak and getting away with it...which is partly why you see tptb now putting their bulls-eye on Iran.

Pentagon says Iran concerned primarily with deterring an attack

The document goes on to make this key statement, "Iran's nuclear program and its willingness to keep open the possibility of developing nuclear weapons is a central part of its deterrent strategy."

I only agree with Dr. Paul on one thing, and that is the idea of a free society that started in 1776. With the laws and regulations that have been added, to a point. We all have our differences, hell look at the guy walking down the street. Race, Color, Religion, Belifs, are mostly all different, again to a point. But we have the right in this country to be that way, to live that way. Protect it, believe in it, and prosper.

You guys are too funny, liberating the bicycle and being the chuck norris of politics

Very interesting. I do agree that most politicians are either woefully ignorant or just care about donations and next election cycle

So I just read through some of that and read the nuclear and ballistic missile sections. The document basically says Iran is currently in development of technology that could lead to nuclear capabilities. Foreign assistance is required and if assistance is sufficient, they could start to be armed with nuclear capabilities by 2015. So Ron Paul is right, Iran has no nukes. Bachmann was wrong.

By the time Iran starts testing ICBM range we'll have known long before that and start diplomatic deterrents asap. Preemptive war is absolutely not necessary, especially not now.

Great thread, thanks maddogg.

All of this is conjecture.

Iran has said it doesnt even want a bomb. They've also signed the non-proliferation treaty...

Well, hardly a surprise.
The truth is, the biggest threat to the peace in entire arab world are Israelis. Media will do ANYTHING to turn it all around. They'll show you some redneck arabs burning flags, put totally false information like about wiping out israel etc. etc. Considering how many members of congress have dual citizenship it's also hardly a surprise.

What they won't show you, is videos of Israelis dropping white phosphor on populated areas, shooting to protesters with live ammunition and constant military occupation of the entire area. The Gaza Blockade is atrocity for general population there. Literally they have no access to absolute basic stuff like meds, water or food.

I remember about 15 years ago when my father described the situation to me in words "In Israel when you're palestinian, you're worth less than nothing". Still accurate.

And THE BEST part is that the main reason for existence of country Israel on current territory was Old Testament, along with all the rest of fairy tales.

Hello! Even a fool knows that if you want to poke somebody you better be able to defend yourself first!

I don't think you read your own link to the DOD report.

What part of this report sounds like a defensive measure to you?

Maybe you should read these sections over again....

"Special Forces and IRGC-Qods Force" (bottom of page 7)

"Iranian Support to Terrorists and Regional Militant Groups" (page 8)

This isn't limited to the region either. The Qods Force is training militants/terrorists worldwide and as the attached report shows, has an increasing presence in North Africa and Latin America.

Ha ha what about the USA and UK funding and arming alcia da in Lybia? Sadam wouldnt even let them into Iraq. They only turned up there after the western forces did. Al cia da was created by Tim Osman (bin ladin) When he was working for the cia in the afghan. He is owed a medal for helping to defeat the Russians in the Afghan. So its ok for the west to arm and supply terrorists but if any one else does, they are invaded and murdered? I hope Iran gets a nuke perhaps then they wont get attacked. Or at least will be able to defend them selves and against the spread of democracy at gun point.

Yes when other countries but the USA do it, it's terrorism and an act of war.

Don't you know the USA is the world's police and without them the world is nothing? Without the USA we cannot find peace or freedom?

LMAO...

Umm...I read the whole thing and if you read my remark that Iran has been no angel in this either, that was reference to the way they play this game.

This is about Iran having or obtaining a nuke in the near future and how our Govt. is spreading propaganda...again...to start another war and to prove Ron Paul is correct...again!

I quoted this to make my point.

The document goes on to make this key statement, "Iran's nuclear program and its willingness to keep open the possibility of developing nuclear weapons is a central part of its deterrent strategy."

And eLPresidente kindly added his input, probably just in case some people didn't understand the topic and to reaffirm that once again, Iran Has No Nukes!

Ron Paul is far too sensible and intelligent for his Gung Ho colleagues, that's why they're afraid of him, he might encourage too many sensible people into government. That would make them and their warmongering, scaremongering tactics, a anachronism. BTW glad to see he's doing well.

I agree.

I think the PTB should just correct the behavior toward Iran. I think the PTB needs to change it's behavior toward American people , too.

It is the elites who have money and can create job opportunities for lower levels of the pyramid.

But recently , those ungrateful elites have changed their minds about American people.

I think it is time for American people to change their mind about those elites and know their enemies. Those corporations are your enemy. They are our enemy , too.

Here's why Iran should not have a nuclear weapon...

Here's a little blurb from the "International Conference on Mahdism Doctrine" and what they are telling the youth about using Facebook and social networking to spread the word concerning their beliefs...

www.mahdaviat-conference.com...

This phenomenon is well explained by ayatollah Ali Khamenei while he explains the difference between Mahdism doctrine in the Shi’i and Sunni world. He emphasizes that the Shi’i already known the Imam, therefore they are feel connected with Him, while the Imam Mahdi in Sunni is not yet known. The most populous group about Imam Mahdi in Facebook is “Soldiers of Imam-e-Zamana (af) created by a Pakistani brother. It reaches 3220 members as recorded in 1st of May 2010. The Creator, Syed Khurram Raza Abidi, started the group in Orkut, a social networking site provided by Google, four years ago and then moved it to Facebook. He elucidates that there is a need to change the youths’ mind to be aware of the presence of Imam Mahdi as well as to be ready to become his soldiers such as Hizbullah in Lebanon. He manages the group altogether with two administrators and currently they are working for a website with similar theme.

Here, let me repeat that one sentence again...

HE ELUCIDATES THAT THERE IS A NEED TO CHANGE THE YOUTHS' MIND TO BE AWARE OF THE PRESENCE OF IMAN MAHDI AS WELL AS TO BE READY TO BECOME HIS SOLDIERS SUCH AS HIZBULLAH IN LEBANON!!!

Don't even try to tell me that Hizbullah is a "defensive army". You all know better. If you don't, you need to do some more research.

I know exactly what Hezbollah is. But what do they have to do with the propaganda of Iran having or obtaining nukes in the near future and using them against Israel or the U.S. which is our argument on why we should bomb them and kill millions while we install another puppet dictator?

While your statements are true, they have nothing to do with the premise of this thread.

Do you think that we should wait until they have nukes before we try to do anything about it?

I notice that in another thread that there are statements made by Michelle Bauchman that Iran could have them in a few months. Doesn't she sit on the House Intelligence Committee? Wouldn't she know what information the U.S. was holding? What happened to all those news articles that came out a few weeks ago stating that Iran had enough enriched uranium to make 5 nuclear weapons by April?

What about Panetta coming out and saying that they could have one within the next year?

I found an article dated a year ago that had statements by a Russian General stating that they knew Iran already had nuclear material and just no way to direct it anywhere.

So, who are you going to believe? Iran?

Supposedly there's a planned visit by IAEA inspectors in the near future, however, even those articles state that they're worried that Iran won't talk about the things they want to talk about or answer the questions they want answered. Why is that?

When I see an IAEA report stating that an inspector was allowed into Iran's Qom facility for an inspection on this upcoming visit, then I'll believe it. As of recent reports, the IAEA was not allowed to inspect the Qom facility.

What do you think should happen now? If you were President, what steps would you take?

Did it ever occur to you that Iran does have enriched uranium and did have the ability to develop a weapon by April, but that the current sanctions along with the two "accidental" blasts that took place over the last couple of months might have slowed them down, thereby warranting Panetta to come out and say now that he thinks they could have them again within the next year?
