I was thinking about this the other day, looks like it may be a while before I return to my day job...
Some of you may like this:

That article kind of gets into the hustling kind of mindset. In hungrier times, I'd make a game of it.Try to figure out each day, new ways to make a
$100.It's good exercise to help always be on the look out for problems or opportunities.
RRRR, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle & Repurpose.
Many don't have the time or skill to replace something, and if it is covered by warranty bringing it back is easier.
There's plenty of consumer goods that get trashed for lack of fixing. If you have the time, take a look on google you may be able to fix or repurpose
the item.
For electronics, some of the higher end Sony cell phones (Z series for ex.) have had issues with batteries going bad, or tricky reset procedures that
the cell phone sales reps are not familiar with.Easy fixes if your handy like that.FYI, I've come across various models where the usb inputs go, a
relatively easy swap if you have a donor phone.Unlocking and rooting phones too, especially in smaller communities.
In wealthier neighbourhoods, I've seen lots of those fancy single serve coffee machines get tossed or sold cheap.Often they stop working, the needle
can get jammed with crumbs or other small blocks.Try using a cloth to form a temporary seal, and blowing air with a straw into the water intake to
clear clogs.Ready to brew again.(This is the one I had in mind:

It helps to think about what your skills are, and materials on hand. Instructables.com makes a good cookbook for brainstorming after that.Forums too,
depending on the niche.
Today, I saw a bunch of cheap fta satallite receivers at the thrift store.@$10 each, It's enough to look at the possibilities.
Last fall we moved out, our landlord redid the kitchen cabinets. Hmm, free particle board.Typically you need to bring it somewhere or pay someone to
remove it.I looked on instructables and found this:

I'm going to experiment with one and see how my friends' cat like it.Need to pick up a few things, but they seem to be kind of pricey judging by
craigslist.I think if you can find a better design for an item, and cheap materials, you're good to go.
