I'm on duty for the next 72 hours, an I always stock up on Gatorade and tea before going into the base.
So I'm walking into the store. I look both ways (something I learned in Kindergarten) and proceeded to walk into the entrance of the store, when, WHAM, I get hit by this truck. Immediately, my right knee starts to sting. I look to the left and a black pick-up truck has stopped about twenty feet away. Four employees (who witnessed this) from the store are yelling at them. The truck drives away and parks in a space. Three people get out and slowly make their way over to me. The employees get me a wheel chair to sit down in, and point out the spot on my right knee where I was struck. There really isn't any pain right now, I just shook up, and the employees wheel me into the store. The three occupants, two girls and a guy are nonchalantly looking around and jabbering like nothing has happened. Soon the cops arrive, look at me, and then talk to the three kids. One of the girls states that she was driving, saw me stop at the entrance and then walk into to her truck purposely. The cop comes over to me and chews me out for hitting her truck, and for making them and an ambulance come here with lights and siren. I then spoke up and said, "How dare you accuse me of lying. I want to speak to a command officer. At that time he never once talked to the four witnesses, or the security guard that had everything on tape. Thankfully, I wasn't seriously hurt (stiff a little now). To make a long story short, Officer Wilson gave me his name and badge number. I told that I would file a report with Internal Affairs.
Until now, as most of you members have read my threads and posts, supporting our LEO's. I must admit, I'll be more skeptical in the future.
What's the old axiom, They came for my neighbor because he was a ****, and I did nothing because I wasn't a *****. They then came for my co-worker because they did *****, and I did nothing because I wasn't a *****. Today, they came for me.

Did the store have security cameras.

If it did get a copy of there tapes.

If they show it was there fault go to the cop shop and make a complaint.

The cops then have something to work with and it is against the law for them to lie to the cops and make a false report.

Chances are if the tape show that you were right and they lied the cops will charge them as it is a arrest for there quota.

Goodness! I'm glad you're okay, that's terrible.
Everything's backwards.
I got cleaned up (my car was totaled) years ago by a lady rushing her kids to school and speeding in our suburb, that was my fault too apparently ?!
Sometimes all you can do is shake your head.

The store employees had a wheel chair handy for you?

I'm sorry for your trouble but something doesn't add up with your text.

I must have missed something there.

Wow seriously? That's stupid. Get a tape and get those witnesses who helped you and you got a rock solid case.

Demand a copy of the video footage. You just know they have one on the entrance, you have witnesses as well.
Get those secured then go after the driver and the cops. I hate that people wont take responsibility for their actions.
I hope you get better, then get rich.

Absolutely get some video coverage...demand it.

I'm still trying to figure out in my mind why they had a wheelchair handy.

Wal-mart has motorized carts and wheelchairs at their entrances, along with shopping carts.

Really, my knee is just a little sore. I would have been hurt worse if I had fallen to the ground
But it sure the hell shook me up. I just shook my head at the kids attitudes, but officer wilson's chewing me out is what pissed me off. I told him," so this conversation would have been different if I was injured, and bleeding out on the pavement." Additionally, I didn't ask for an ambulance, just to have the cops called.
I must have interrupted his doughnut break, the thug.

That would explain that then. I was thinking traditional wheelchair, like at a hospital.

Blimey, i wouldn't like to bet what hurt more, the idiots in the truck driving into you, or the copper accusing you of hurting their truck when they drove into you!

It's like someone punching you in the mouth, and the copper accusing you of hurting their fist with your teeth!

Shocking.

That bloody film 'idiocracy' was meant to be satire, not a documentary on the current state of affairs.

Glad the shop had it on tape, i'd definitely take a suit against both the driver and the copper if i were you mate.

You looked both ways and still got hit by a truck? The point of looking both ways is to make sure that if a vehicle is coming, you don't keep walking. Just because you looked both ways doesn't mean you can just keep walking even if vehicles are coming, silly head.

Actually I believe what you're saying is, "You were crossing the crosswalk to the store, and a vehicle did not yield to the pedestrian in the crosswalk." Sounds like if you can get the footage and get yourself a nice lawyer, you can sue the pants off this careless driver. Most states have a pedestrian right of way clause, and in some states, regardless if you are in a crosswalk or not, if a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the vehicle is at fault.

Teach those teenagers that texting and driving carelessly will not happen on your watch.

I dont want to be a meanie here, but you havnt actually given us anything to indicate that it wasnt in fact, your fault.
You arent very badly hurt, so the accident was low speed. And its not like they came screaming around a corner so fast that you simply didnt have time to dive out of the way. You say you looked, but got hit immediately, which tells me the vehicle WAS in your field of view but you simply didnt see it. If you did see it, then it would also be your fault for not noticing what it was doing.

But you have told us what they said either.
c'mon, give us something, anything at all, to show that its not your fault.

The Walmart here has motorized land yachts with a wet bar for the disabled...and a few lazy fat people...but mostly the disabled.

That's the part I want to comment on. I have seen some of those posts, and I must say I commend you for this. It's hard to watch a lot of the things that "Law" Enforcement are up to now, and it's something of a relief to have more people seeing it for what it is. This entire country has been turned upside-down and backward. It's, as they say, as if the patients were running the asylum. Something's gotta give pretty soon....

Man I hope you got hit in view of cameras. The store security will probably have a policy to not release the tapes to anyone but LE or if you subpoena it. Unless they've got a great system it's a little hard to tell what happens on those damn outside cameras. They're choppy. What store was it? I'm pretty familiar with how much the bigger companies spend on cameras and what they use (or I used to be).

I was also under the impression that if you hit a pedestrian it's almost always your fault, like rear ending someone. I don't always agree with you but have found you to be honest so I'm very inclined to believe the cop was being a jackass.

I had to deal with this stuff sometimes when I was doing plainclothes security at a dept. store and the cops ALWAYS looked at the camera system when there was an incident. The fact that he didn't even talk to the other people is giving me pause as well.

I'd recommend getting a lawyer if that knee starts hurting. CYA my friend and document everything.

Dude I've had something similar happen. Look both ways at front of store. To the left, then the right, then left again. Begin walking, car turns onto the main drag I'm walking across from one of the parking rows and almost clips me. They weren't going over ten MPH they just weren't paying attention. Slammed on the breaks and would have taken me out if they stayed distracted. I crossed diagonally so my back was half turned to the car.

Agreed. Had something similar happen to me from both sides of the incident. In one case, I was crossing from the parking lot to the store entrance.. nothing coming.. I start to cross and someone turned out from behind me and nearly clipped me.

On the other hand, I almost hit someone in the parking lot once because someone was speeding in the parking lot and I was making sure they were not going to hit me, I glanced back in front of me and wow a pedestrian. It happens. Parking lots are tricky places.
