It isn't operational. Sea trials are just that. To ensure that it moves and floats without structural deficiencies. The process can take months, then after that reviews and fitting the rest of the equiptment, as well as testing the launch/capture systems and defense systems. 2014 sounds about right. Maybe early 2015 if they are more careful. There WILL be accidents when it first goes on line as they have not fielded this type of vessel before. They don't call the deck of a carrier the most dangerous work environment in the world for nothing.

It was not suppose to be operational until 2014........
Must be a reason for sped up production?

It's not operational.

I considered the possibility of there being a specific reason for this. They probably are trying to speed it up for many reasons, one being the current world stage. Although, even once this one carrier is fully operational, one carrier is nothing compared to the other nations that could actually pose them a threat such as the U.S. who has a much more superior navy.

Breaking news: Cameron is one of the worst PMs ever.

Christ it's only a aircraft carrier don't worry about it, if it's a threat it could be dealt with in a matter of minutes.

I really wish china wouldtake care of the US. I'm sick of them acting like they are world leaders.

It's an aircraft carrier with no aircraft on it. How much of a threat can it be?

no one is saying it's a threat!

No one even read the article or they would see that it's around a decade from being fully operational.

Here is a picture I yanked off an MSNBC article from another thread. It's much better quality.

It doesn't have any arresting gear The Russians are holding out for more money and a little payback.
They probably use it right now for Touch and Go landings and helicopter operations.

Some assembly required or as Russian say F you China!

I don't see how this is news? Who cares if their carrier is on the move, we have a ton of them patrolling all the waters of the world, why do we care so much what the Chinese are doing? Even if it went into Iranian waterways who cares. It's okay for the United States to have their ships everywhere but no one else can?

So say the sensible people.

Why is this *news*? Apparently, it's *news* because those pesky Chinese are trying to stir up trouble again.
How dare they build and operate a war vessel in or near their own country. #sarcasm

Seriously, there might be a reason why Fox is the carrier of this: they themselves love to paint China/Iran/et al in the worst possible light, so of course this will be news, that China is an IMMINENT threat, trying to start trouble, provoking the Honorable USA, when all the US wants to do is make sure the world operates smoothly (under its own hypocritical terms) and the Chinese KNOW their place.

Im sorry, what about a carrier?

You know, i dislike Fox as much as the next guy, but i still read their online print. Often times they DO have information that other MSM outlets do not, so it's always good to scour the field for whatever is out there: the more information is the better. The key, however, is to read through the slant (of any outlet).

A fun thing to do is find a newsworthy topic and compare the Fox write-up with, say, CNN or MSNBC (as long as it's not a direct copy of the AP). It's quite shocking the obvious agenda and slant, when you compare them side by side (including headlines).

This is old news and sorry to burst bubbles here that was the Varyag a Admiral Kuznefsov class which began construction in 1985 then launched in 1988 then renamed the Varangian in 1990 then construction stopped in 1992 then transfered to Ukraine and then sold to China for 20 million bucks by the Plan.

Yeah that some a real cutting edge carrier that was obsolete and if you listen to some people on here carriers are obsolete blah blah blah.

en.wikipedia.org...

Yep China is some real naval "superpower" buying scraps from Russia and stealing the rest.

Yawn.

Hardware is one thing but the sheer scale of the logistics and organisation behind a battle-group is something only achieved with time. The U.S have this down to an art-form.

In time no doubt the Chinese will have some modicum of projection which will widen their sphere of influence but that day is still some ways off.

There is simply no substitute for experience - these are just their first tentative steps.

Fool the Emperor to Cross the Sea

Moving about in the darkness and shadows, occupying isolated places, or hiding behind screens will only attract suspicious attention. To lower an enemy's guard you must act in the open hiding your true intentions under the guise of common every day activities.

But what's in it? Nothing parked on deck doesn't mean there's nothing in it. History has shown that the west often gets a suprise by thinking that Russia or China haven't managed to get there yet and then BANG look what we missed.

It normally happens when the west get a photo of something that intelligence had stated the other side aren't supposed to have,

Satellite or other high set observations are easy to fool.

NO WAY the Chinese can go toe to toe with the US Navy.

Hell, the Russians were willing to give this thing away.
