why do people keep talking about a police escort.

they do not look like cop cars. they are just cars with signs up top stating 'oversized load'

That would be the X-47b UCAS-D Air Vehicle System, developed by Northrop Grumman in Palmdale in California.

See the article that was posted on the first page, there's an interview with the local sheriff who was part of the escort team:

www.ksn.com...

A huge 32 foot craft, wrapped in tarp, was as mysterious as the transport company who called Sheriff Don Read for help.

“They told us that it was an aircraft and that they had explored other ways to transport it but this was the best way for them to do it and they asked us not to say a whole lot about it,” said Read.

For nearly an hour, officers helped maneuver the craft through Cowley County.

Also watch the video clip at the above link, there's a good photo of it about halfway through the clip that clearly shows it is not saucer shaped, but rather is shaped like the typical stealth drones we're using these days. You can also clearly see the landing gear is deployed, additional proof that this is just a conventional (if secret) stealth aircraft. It looks like a Northrop Grumman X-47B without the winglets (it makes sense that the winglets would be removed for transport since they could be easily damaged and would make the load too wide). But I think the X-47B is 19' across and this looks bigger. It may be a "new and improved" version.

EDIT TO ADD:
Cheers to dainoyfb for the link on page 2 to this photo, this angle shows just how much one of these stealth drones can look like a flying saucer. Picture this with the wingtips removed for transport and covered with a protective membrane:

It's not identical to

So what in the world was it? Undersheriff Bill Mueller says it was an experimental aircraft from Northrop Grumman, possibly a new unmanned drone. It still has a ways to go. Its final destination is Maryland.

Kinda explaiins it all right there in one sentence...expiermental plane debeloped by NG...unmanned drone a/c. Police escort for wide loads are required so nothing out of line there either.

They said on the news that it was an "experimental aircraft". They also asked what I believe was one of the escorts that helped through town not to talk much about it. Pretty crazy stuff, said where it was headed as well.
I've seen some prety interesting things going to and from Kennedy Space Center on trailers kind of like this. A lot of times wrapped/covered in white plastic like companies do new boats. Sometime with tight canvas type coverings that looks like it can be reused. The last neat thing I saw were two objects covered in this canvas covering that looked like two of the rocket motors with cones from the Space Shuttle. they were heading west on Hwy 528 between Titusville and Orlando. This was around the end of last November and would have coincided with the decommissioning of one of the Shuttles they have out there.

Before the MacDonald Douglas Plant closed down in Titusville. I was stationed at a fire station just up the highway and would always see the semi trucks going by at about two or three A.M. from the plant with security in front and back. The word was that's when they transported the cruise missles and other ordainance, LAWS rockets and whatever else they were making at the time.
So it goes to show you there is some interesting ( and hazardous) stuff being carted down or highways.

Seen as every Government denies the existence of flying saucers, the object on the flatbed can be anything, 'officially'.

If you moved a disk shaped object under moonlight like another member posted, that would attract the usual *insert suspicious comment here* comments. So seen as they 'don't exist', you can move them freely during the day on flatbed trucks. Sure, loads of people will see a disk, but everyone will go "Oh, they wouldn't its in broad daylight", but what's the expression about the best hiding place being right under your nose?

Also, 'experimental aircraft' sounds about right for a tagline for a UFO.

There were escorts front and back, which would be common. But what about the rv/bus in the photo? there were also more police escorts behind the bus/rv just out of view of the photo.

That looks like one but there is a great probably not because if there hauling something that is that secret dont you thing they would transport it by air like in the back of a cargo plane in my opinion it is some kind of secret airplane but who knows thats just an opinion

As Split Infinity stated, no gov't would tansport a 'UFO' like this. I'm sure it would be either airlifted out via copter or they would tarp it off...They could even do it with a train car. The thing is if they wanted to keep this a secret they would. Like other stated and proved above its a UAV heading to Maryland. Great photo though, almost got me going there for a second when I seen it.

if I worked for the government- which I did for 15 years- I would take a "flying saucer" and encase it in a shell made simply of plywood. The box would be square and look like normal cargo. So if this is truly a ET craft or experimental of some sort, it could be that
1) This is part of the softening of the public by slowly acclimatizing people to these shapes and/or possibilities
2) its a darn satellite dish.

or maybe I am off me rocker.

It is a Northrop Grumman X-47B being moved to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD (a.k.a. Pax River). The X-47B test program is transitioning to Pax River for shore-based carrier suitability testing. Initial flight trials took place at Edwards Air Force Base.

Or would they......

Prolly a carnival ride, I love the gravitron!

Why wouldnt they?

The best place to hide something is in plain sight.

This way people would say exactly what you say. "If its a real ET craft they would not transport it this way, so it must be a movie prop or something"
