Palestinians condemn Newt Gingrich for saying they are an 'invented' people

Mr Gingrich told the Jewish Channel, a US cable network, that Palestinians were not a people separate from Arabs because they never had a state and because they were part of the Ottoman Empire before the British mandate and Israel's creation.

"Remember, there was no Palestine as a state - (it was) part of the Ottoman Empire. I think we have an invented Palestinian people who are in fact Arabs and historically part of the Arab community and they had the chance to go many places "For a variety of political reasons we have sustained this war against Israel now since the 1940's, and I think it's tragic."

Any more material required to showcase this "man's" true colours?
I guess it's safe to support Israel as a POTUS candidate, but to go and throw fuel on the fire is just plain dumb. His comments clearly show he should be no where near a position of power on the world stage.

I like how is staff had to back track on his comment pretty quickly.

"However, to understand what is being proposed and negotiated you have to understand decades of complex history -- which is exactly what Gingrich was referencing during the recent interview with Jewish TV,"

His comments are inconsiderate and inflammatory. The POTUS has to act respectably to all, on the world stage. It truly makes Newt look like a bigot. If his logic rings true than then Americans (as in US citizens) are an invented people.....as there was no USA during Antiquity. In fact every "country" has an invented populace because back in the day there were no freaking countries.

The US is an invented country, it has only been around since 1789. What is your point? Israel was around thousands of years ago, only China has existed as long or longer imo.

What is your point? I think mine is quite clear. Do you think it is okay for a candidate for the POTUS to say things like this in a powder keg of a situation? Is this a person you want representing you on the world stage?

He states he thinks the political drivel between Israel and Palestine is tragic and that this "war against Israel" obviously should stop (in between the line he's stating that we should ignore Palestine's pleas for help) However he goes on then to Inflame the situation! Do you support this man?

Its all spin by controlling and applying a definition a spin master can make anothers point of view moot.
His argument that Palestine is a made up state so has no rights under that determination is similar to arguing America is a made up country so Americans have no right to self determine.
As humans all humans have the right to self determination and freedom regardless of religion or race. Those who seek to spread hate and pander to hate mongers are no better than the Nazi's who did the same.
Choosing to see righteousness in bulldozing a home or firing a rocket at anothers home plays right into the hands of the evil puppet masters which have controlled the many through hate for oh so long.

Thousands of years ago it was known as Judea not Israel. There was no Israel until 1948.

There are other reasons that I do not support Newt. This is not one of them. In this particular instance, he is spot on.

Potato Potahto, or a rose by any other name. The Jews had their own nation in the area concerned for thousands of years. They have as much or even more right to the land as anybody else. There is no difference between a palestinian and a Jordanian. They are the same people and were given the lands now known as Jordan by the very same declaration that restored Israel to the Jews.
