This was originally intended as a reply to Kim78's thread entitled, "US Army", but this is better than that, so it belongs here... by itself.
I am a Republican. Bush is a failure. Kerry is a dork, and couldn't lead himself out of a portable toilet. I'm writing in Mickey Mouse as president.
Again.
I do not intend to debate my opinion with people whose own is opposed, because my mind is made up. But if you want to rip on Bush with me some more,
I'm there dude. If you want to rip on Kerry, I'm game for that too. That's just fun.
Also, I haven't slept in well over 24 hours, so deal with it. Thank you.
Poo Politics.
The United States Army could seem pathetically weak in numbers as far as combat arms specialties go. But it's not.
But maybe it is.
When it was decided to invade Iraq, we put ourselves in a potentially precarious position. Those troops are now pinned down constantly in a bona fide
guerilla combat zone. But we're not pinned down by the purveyors of perniciousness, rather piss poor planning and policy.
Man, there were plenty of countries that were known to have been developing WsMD and were also willing to wheel and deal with would-be terrorists. But
we invade Iraq. Why? Because it was the easiest win for President Bush. Not only that, but all of the people and corporations that invested millions
in the first Bush/Cheney campaign could have been waiting for the return on investment that the Iraq war would create for them. That's right,
government contractors. Like Halliburton/Brown and Root, Bechtel, Rockwell, Boeing, Lockheed, and numerous others.
So now we're stuck there, trying to somehow make up for losses for corporations at the needless expense of young human life. Yeah, Saddam Hussein is
a bad guy, and he needed to be taken out. But at the cost of 200 Billion dollars?!!! We could probably have hired a few suicide bombers that would
have performed sufficiently for the task at the tune of $25,000 a head, for Christ's sake!
Uh, I don't know if I like that last part...
Anyway, so now, what if Korea decides to get froggy and jump on Seoul? Then what? Are we supposed to take the troops that have been bogged down in the
middle of a desert for double-tours now, and throw them into the harsh cold and killer terrain of center Korean peninsula? 'Fraid we can't do that.
Because if we did, then Iraq would become a 'hornet's nest' of terrorists. Well guess what, it wasn't before when Saddam was around. Why, because
he would kill them and bury them in mass graves before they could gain any strength. But now, even with our measley 150,000 combat troops (I believe
there are more than that, counting SOF, but even our combat support troops are better trained than most soldiers around the world - But NOT N.
Koreas!), we couldn't take on 1.5 million of Korea's...
I don't like the sound of them apples, Will!
And then what if, just what if China decided to play just like they did at the beginning of this 6 decade long war? The war's not over you know, it
never was. Well, I would have to say that we were pretty much screwed... UNLESS we were all of a sudden willing to use unconventional ordnance.
That would be bad.
Furthermore, I don't really think that Saudi Arabia is our friend, nor Pakistan, nor India, nor Russia. On the surface of the television screen
maybe, but I really do believe that the larger countries are planning a move. I hope I'm wrong. A greater point may be: Do you think France or
Germany, or even Britain would stand by us were we to get into something we couldn't handle? Maybe. Maybe not. Better not left to chance.
You can count on the Aussies being by our side though, because they just might be the one army that drinks as much as we do.
Also, our army is now expected to help install a democracy which would have only a very slight chance of surviving, were it not for our mere presence
in the region. As long as we're there, there will be chaos. Well, there will be chaos either way, but I say just get out now, rest and refit, let
them whittle themselves down for a while, and when there seems to be a clear victor in the Iraqi civil war, swoop in and gouge out thier eyeballs with
our talons. Poof! No more BS!
What the hell do you expect when you try to tell a highly trained, highly motivated, superiorly equipped team of killers to go over there and create a
democracy. Hell, these guys are just looking for beer more than anything else right now. Install a democracy... Pshaw!
Anyway, for these reasons, we may have just screwed ourselves. All this is the reason why our armed forces are now tasked beyond thier
capabilities.
And this, to me, is why Bush is unfit to perform the duty of Commander in Chief.
And he should get a pie in the face.
No, 2 pies.
