Interesting numbers. So, with the exception of the million plus in the U.S., the ranking goes like this...?
#1 Afghanistan 100,000+ troops
#2 Germany 50,000+
#3 Japan 40,000+
#4 S. Korea 28,000+

Why so many troops in Germany & Japan? What are they doing there? Is it just in case # goes down in Europe or SouthEast Asia then we will have troops nearby?

Again, most of the troops deployed overseas are in embassies.

Freedom promoting, liberation sponsored, drone base type embassies?

Gimme a break.

Us simpletons would like for you to give us some factual numbers as for the percentage of U.S. Military personnel are actually embassy personnel versus active duty. I don't claim to know this number so hopefully you can help set me straight

Well, for one thing, Embassy Guards are Active Duty personnel.

Why are US forces still in the UK and Germany ? didn't the cold war end decades ago ? and don't tell me they are there because UK and Germany asked for their presence.

You didn't read the article, did you?

RAF Croughton. Huge Comm base that handles 30% of all military comm traffic in Europe, and 25% of all traffic from Europe to the US. A lot of US troops in the UK and Germany are support and logistics.

Those countries aren't in a hurry to kick us out because there's a lot of money pouring into their communities from the Americans stationed there.

In Europe and Japan, they are mainly Air Force personnel.

In Europe, for projection. Middle East, Africa...

In Japan, to protect the Pacific.
