What the f.....!

World health ministers said Friday they were being vigilant after a Dutch laboratory developed a mutant version of the deadly bird flu virus that is for the first time contagious among humans.

Seriously.

When are TPTB going to realise that nothing is ever 100% secure?

Sorry, old news dude. www.abovetopsecret.com...

Personally I think they like the fear factor and the possibility of killing us all which may even just be their ultimate plan.

Well, if you're to cure a potentialy dangerous natural mutation, surely it'd be a good idea to have one in the lab to study, just in case?

It's probably a good thing, really. Think of all the viruses in labs that can kill Millions, Billions even already.

They do realise it, but that aint going to stop them.
This is dangerous news and I wait for the day when some big mutation supercharges some virus and wipes out half the world. Oh well, atleast they are making a few bucks.

"The Dutch authorities confirmed that the virus itself is stored in a very secured way and that the necessary permits were given and that the researchers are bound by a code of conduct," Dalli said.

Now doesn't that make everyone feel better. (facepalm)

Unbelievable. But sadly, not surprising.

We can and should expect our scientists to find a better way.

Create a deadly disease in an effort to eliminate deadly disease is not acceptable with the risks inherent in today's society.

If the Dutch try to take over the World, I ain't wearing those wooden clogs. No Sirree..

I always knew they were a suspicious lot. All those windmills and poppies are just too peaceful looking.

Nothing is better then first hand experience. You can't simulate a mutated virus as it's a mutation, and you don't know how it will react compared to its original form.

If there was a better way, i'm sure labs wouldn't bother doing things like this, but well, they do.

Why would they even do this? Are they secretly planning on releasing this to reduce world population?

What timing.
I'm watching a doomsday show on tv, and they're talking about this as one of their doomsday scenarios.
If there was ever an accident they couldn't contain, it would spread so fast.

Sorry dude it just hit the news today and common influenza and bird influenza are different, You could catch common influenza because it's airborn but until now bird flu couldn't be passed from person to person it could only happen through food stuffs such as birds.. This is from the H5N1 strain.

Two very different things.

Yep It's called the Dutch connection. They're going to add a DNA strain to their poppies and when the poppies are pollenating the windmills will spread it.
They've got their clogs ready for when industry comes to a halt

I think they wanted to mutate it before it mutated so they can fight the mutated version. Well now they've mutated it. Kind of like selling weapons to your enemy

I believe this is incredibly dangerous and absolutely FOOLHARDY. First, I agree that we need to study, poke and prod dangerous bugs to learn a little about what would so much enjoy killing us all. It might just save lives someday. Billions of them.

However, what the hell is wrong with people in Governments?! The other major powers are no better in either running their own or allowing high level 'hot zone' type labs for dangerous pathogens close enough to theoretically infect unsuspecting populations. I don't care how unlikely it may be. It COULD still happen, and that is quite enough reason to insure it's physically impossibly in this type of research.

I have a real solution to suggest. Researching treatments to these dangerous pathogens is an international problem and effort, as I am sure everyone would agree. Very similar to the International Space Station in orbit above us. Well, lets dig deep down below us on this one.

All the way down to Antarctica. It's a LAND continent twice the size of Australia and it's totally empty! It's also never in a temperature range to sustain a pathogen in the open air, outside human shelters. Even a total catastrophe means 0% chance of outbreak to anything, period.

So lets give New Zealand a nice economic boom in the traffic they'd catch benefit from for getting down there to build a large, world class and internationally sized research lab into one of the mountains deep in the interior. They could even make a couple way-stations on the way back out to McMurdo and allowing anyone to leave. A natural time period spent in each to make sure no one infected is ever missed in leaving.

There.... 100% safe and SANE for a 100% necessary but 100% LETHAL line of research. The purists who think it needs to stay a perfectly pristine snowball until the end of time can go stick it in their ear. Just keep anything built down there 100% international in nature.

That's true. Even if the original mutation never gets out the information regarding it might then there's a whole new weapon for the more anti social of our species.

For the most part science and TPTB are good at containing dangerous things in labs. But there is always an accident at some stage. I just hope there isn't one regarding this.

No worries, the other thread didn't get much attention, which is what I was actually trying to point you at in possibly a reverse cyclical way.

Virus is virus and plague is plague. They can mutate it all they want and test it on me. Life is pretty meaningless as it is

Hey man that is not the spirit. Life is worth heaps. Just your input on one post adds to the history of hunamity in some way. A thought goes from someones head onto a post so it went form the biological to cyber. your thoughts are on record and will be here long after you're gone. There's always meaning if you look for it.

nothing is 100 percent secure same as plum island if your working with virus's etc some can escape and go threw the suit and into the air when leaving the test facility..

I just don't know.

I would rather be killed by a nuke.

Hopefully all of the 'new agers' will save us.
