China cactching up quick!

In an interview with the bbc world service the Chinese space administrator
(mr sun) revealed that China hopes to put an unmanned probe on the moon by 2007 (before beijing 2008) followed by a manned mission.
I hope this quick progress continues, we may have another space race brewing, which is just what is needed right now.

I don't think the USA can afford one.
So who will the race be against? With Iraq and the war on terror, tax breaks etc. the USA still has a major negative balance. Where are they going to get the money to run a space race?

Uhhh, people - we have nothing to prove in another race to the moon. We beat Russia there 40 some odd years ago, nd Russia then was much more powerful then China now.

Why spend billions of dollars on something we know we can do, and have een able to do for close to half a century?

Now if they were talking about mars, that would be a race.

The Chinese surely know that they cannot lay claim to the moon because of international treaty which states that no single entity may lay claim to the moon, mars, etc. Now they may try to pull that, but that would be bad mistake. So they get to the moon? Eh. They'll plant a flag, takes some pics, and then not return. (That sounds familiar.)

He's referring to all the "Black Projects" out there, like Space Planes.

Glad to hear their making progress, as others have said, it will probably kick us in the rears to improve our own technology and missions capabilities. Nothing has motivated human development more than competition.

I don't know what the heck their going to do on the moon though besides securing bragging rights for having gone their. Its still the same worthless rock it was in 1969 when we first arrived. And there is no way they are going to be able to colonize it in the short term, so I say have fun China!

doooooooood perhaps this deserves another topic, but did any of you see the video of the chinese testing a rocket? upon launch the rocket failed and crashed, obliterating a whole town! i dont recall when this happened, i saw it on real TV a while back. lets just hope they have gotten their act together!

I will tell you where we cqan get the money for a space race for china!!!! look at your most recent pay stub its a little spot caalled taxes....... and i think they should go up......... taxes pay for streets, police, fire depts, military might (like me im in the navy). I have no problem paying a extra 100 dollars a month and i dont make much money as it is. I love it when people who are doctors and lawyers complain about taxes...... im like omg whats wrong you wont be able to afford your mercedes if your taxes go up you might have to settle for a lexus

the moon landing was not a hoax.....I hate people who say that....... thats just dumb ......i mean there is this place in idaho though that looks alot like the moon....... hmmmmmm

the chinese rocket program has progressed significantly since that explosion on Real TV. The rockets still need work though, but they are a lot safer now.
