Something i have always had a problem with, is the fact that as a race, if we were invaded, all wars on earth would stop. We would all share resources, the Chinese army standing shoulder to shoulder with Americans, south and north Korea unit. Old enemies becoming close allies against one threat.

But. If we can achieve world peace then, why cant we now? Why does it take a ET invasion to knock that into us?

That's the problem with our species, war, mistrust in our neighbor.

That makes us weak, we could achieve so damn much. Its quite sad really.

I agree with you here. I am sure it would take a ET invasion to make us befriend each other again. One people united against a different people from a different world. Only time will tell and if that actually happens.

My guess is that the invasion took place a long time ago and there already here and in charge. I agree on the fact that it would take something like that to unite people. Kind of makes you wonder why Reagan said it.

No. We'll fight the invaders together and if we win we'll go back to fighting each other.

You know why?

Because we can't escape our nature.

The more advanced the race, the farther away from sensualities and hedonism they will be. An alien race will either not care enough about us to bother or be benevolent and try to advance us away from our current selves, 'cause we suck.

For the same reason that Blacks, Hispanics, Arabs, Persians, Asians and others introduction into English society prompted "white" to change from pure English to anyone west of the Caucus (with the inclusion of Russians).

Have a common enemy or Force = Have a commonality between those who look like you.

The second we meet aliens, I guarantee you that there will be a distinction that creates two categories:
Human & Xeno

I think it would. At that point, everyone would realise that there was something greater than themselves and the lil blue marble out in our lil corner of the universe that we reside on... People would begin to wonder.. We would adapt (many would) to the seemingly more knowledgable ways of our "cousins?" who seemed to make it so far without such war and strife or vast information and knowledge on the topic to show us the error in our ways.

Some would rebel and fight against the "demons" or whatever being of fear concocted in our minds at the time. But with obvious knowledge used to get this far, i'm sure that would not be much of a problem for aliens.. Yet.. Still, racial diffrences has always been our way... Perhaps it'll be the same. We'll eventually turn on our saviours as time and history has shown, time and again.

I beg to differ on the part "befriend each other again". As far as i know, humanity has had war and violence throughout it's short history. The rest i agree on.

Yeah, because that's worked so well in the past

____________________________________________________________________________

Who's to say some militant/selfish nations wouldn't basically give themselves up to the ET if there was such an invasion to preserve only themselves and their country? "Listen, ET mates, we'll surrender to you and help you if you spare us! We'll be your slaves, help rid the planet of these earthlings, or whatever you want!"

I would like to think that we could band together as the human species, but given our history of blackmailing one another, working for the other side, mass murders of people that we differ from, etc., this is hardly a remote possibility in my mind. Someone will try to work for the aliens

It would bring world peace because we probably won't be around too long after they invade

Jepic nailed it on post 4.

It would unite is against the threat until the threat was defeated or we all perished. If the threat goes away so does the necessity to play nice.

If you solved our energy problems and gave us interstellar travel as well we could probably stop fighting. We'd expand out into the cosmos, meet interesting new beings and break their stuff.

Maybe TPTB in America will convince the Alien invaders that we are the chosen... and for them to help us wipe out all our enemies, those ensure a lasting world peace...

Yes it would ensure world peace..because the current governments will lose there power. Whole reason for our mess is because of our governments mass controlling our species. Who the fk goes to wars in 2011? Why aren't we over wars? Why are the most "intelligent" leaders so blind to not see..we need to stop wars?

Humans are trying for peace, just a flower tries for sunlight to birth its new sprouts. We humans are sprouting for peace, but we wont get it from the light of our governments, since they have no light at all.

We need a new light/spark/way/government to help ignite.

So this "invasion" will shed the new light to help us grow, and ensure REAL world peace and unity.

IMO

After a war...resources are limited...what happens to human nature when resources are limited? I think we all know the answer to that.

i totally agree with you on this dan, i mean i think it is a great idea that we would all come together in face of an epic invasion. however, i think there would be plenty of people out there only concerned for themselves. i would think a good bit of people would get down in bunkers and once they are in shut everyone else out. to me all around the world i see a lot of people who put themselves first before anyone else, so if they can save their hide by letting you die you bet they will. plus if the war drags on and causes global destruction, then imagine how savage people would get without food. as bad is it is to say just look at how things were in africa with the huge famine, no one was trying to help and share with others of their own country, it was kill or be killed or rather still is.

i feel in times like that human survival instinct comes in, i mean we tend to forget that humans are just another animal species on this planet and in tough times will do anything it takes to survive. i would love to think that we could get a long, trust me i try my best to be polite and kind to others and do what i can to help out if someone needs it. however, i hardly get any of that back in return, though it would be pointless to be kind and generous if i expected something in return.

in the end, i think what would more like bring people together is a singular earth shattering threat, such as a giant asteroid or something of the sort. with aliens people have a chance to survive if they are cutthroat and only fight for themselves, but when the whole earth is doomed there is no where for anyone to hide. that to me would drop all barriers, because if they don't work together they would all die regardless of anything.

it depends on the mentality of those invading, if they just attack and see us all as an enemy then yes we would all unite to defeat the threat where possible

however if they are able to communicate with us and offer things of value to certain people to get them on side to use as a lesser race who will do their bidding then i am afraid some of our fellow man would screw us over in an instant and work against us inorder to gain for themselves and be exempt (as far as they are aware) from any attacks by the invaders etc.

Frankly if they were something like the Roman or British Empire and invaded but only with a "show of force" so to speak and gave us simple technologies to clean up our world and our societies, would that be such a bad thing? I mean a period of a few decades to centuries where we acclimate our society/economy and various cultures through learning.

Basically they'll come machine-gun a few of the restless natives and start a process of acclimization over time. A few decades to centuries later we are granted partial or full status in the galactic Federation or Empire....etc. Hell, even if we ended up being the new soldiers/enforcers of the galactics it would mean a place in galactic society that caters to our culture of conflict. Better blowing away unruly Xenos than humans any day.
