Water is a chemical substance with the chemical formula H2O. A water molecule contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms connected by covalent bonds. Water is a liquid at ambient conditions, but it often co-exists on Earth with its solid state, ice, and gaseous state (water vapor or steam). Water also exists in a liquid crystal state near hydrophilic surfaces. Under nomenclature used to name chemical compounds, Dihydrogen monoxide is the scientific name for water, though it is almost never used.
Safe drinking water is essential to humans and other lifeforms
Water covers 70.9% of the Earth's surface, and is vital for all known forms of life. On Earth, 96.5% of the planet's water is found mostly in oceans; 1.7% in groundwater; 1.7% in glaciers and the ice caps of Antarctica and Greenland; a small fraction in other large water bodies, and 0.001% in the air as vapor, clouds (formed of solid and liquid water particles suspended in air), and precipitation. Only 2.5% of the Earth's water is freshwater, and 98.8% of that water is in ice and groundwater. Less than 0.3% of all freshwater is in rivers, lakes, and the atmosphere, and an even smaller amount of the Earth's freshwater (0.003%) is contained within biological bodies and manufactured products.
A 2006 United Nations report stated that "there is enough water for everyone", but that access to it is hampered by mismanagement and corruption
The UN World Water Development Report (WWDR, 2003) from the World Water Assessment Program indicates that, in the next 20 years, the quantity of water available to everyone is predicted to decrease by 30%. 40% of the world's inhabitants currently have insufficient fresh water for minimal hygiene. More than 2.2 million people died in 2000 from waterborne diseases (related to the consumption of contaminated water) or drought. In 2004, the UK charity WaterAid reported that a child dies every 15 seconds from easily preventable water-related diseases; often this means lack of sewage disposal
The human body contains from 55% to 78% water, depending on body size.

maybe I'm just an optimist?
and if it's a conspiracy to kill us off...there's much easier and quicker ways to kill us off. There's some more optimism for youedit on 9-12-2011 by Ghost375 because: (no reason given)

Sorry , even though you're in the right area of thought , (tell your dealer i said HIGH ) as soon as i read the - a child dies every 15 seconds - i switched off , think about it ... if thousands of children die from multiple things every second , if thousands of people die from smoking/ drinking / car crashes / and what not ... every second of every day ... after 20 years i dare say the earth would be free of humans .... probably a good thing too ... we mess up too much ... animals know how to survive , but were weak , we let ourselves be dominated by our own kind. Dont just take their word for it , they dont monitor every inch of the planet , they dont even monitor every inch of your city / town / village .... so how can they know the EXACT numbers ? its BS , a reason for all the poor to stay poor and "donate" , and an oppertunity for the rich to tell the poor to waste what little money they have .... look at africa on google earth and tell me WE need to feed THEM.
