Iran tricked U.S. spy drone into landing in country, report says

The U.S. RQ-170 Sentinel spy drone that was recently captured and displayed by Iranian authorities may have been tricked into landing in that country after being electronically ambushed.

An unconfirmed report in the Christian Science Monitor Thursday quotes an unnamed Iranian engineer as saying that electronic warfare experts in the country were able to cut off the drone's communications links and reconfigure its GPS coordinates to trick it into landing in Iran.

This is the stupidest thing Iran could do...why? Because it would give Obama all the ammunition he needs to invade Iran.

They have their own, it's called the Sofreh Mahi or Eagle Ray.

It's (officially) in development but despite what many on ATS want to believe, Iran are as sneaky and secretive as the US, so who knows what stage this aircraft is at.

Anyway, I find it hypocritical if Iran continues to make a big song and dance about this, since they too are at least entertaining the notion of having a stealth UAV themselves.

Why have one if you don't intend to use it, right?

Nah...you haven't.

Even if Iran did/does have their own stealthy type plane...do you genuinely think Obama and his admin wont use Iran decrypting and reverse engineering it as an excuse to feed the masses lies about how much danger they are in for support of invading Iran?

The drone is a public relations nightmare, so the less said, the better.

some people here are too deep in their belief of US Military superiority myth. Too many people lulled by the display of one sided war in Gulf 1991 and thought their military is supermen..

Too many people forgot the debacle and slaughter of US soldiers in vietnam and korea, where underarmed soldiers with no air support and weak altilery defeated the massively supplied and supported US formations.

Too many people turn a blind eye toward the defeat of US in iraq and afghan theatre of war where a few freedom fighters defeated the superbly equipped US soldiers..

Trying to attack iran will be suicidal for the US in military and economic terms, because IRAN will respond in asymetrical way. IRAN will face USA in field of their own choosing and wont fight on US's terms.. their strategy will be :

- massive suicide boats attacks against US NAVY in persian gulf in coordination with massive Missile strike against ships in the gulf and massive mining of the persian gulf. The result will be destruction of US naval fleet and the civilian oil tankers and thus cut off the world's oil supply..
- massive ballistic missile attack against arabian oilfields and refineries thus depriving saudi arabia its revenue and the rest of the world from oil.
- massive terrorist cells attacks in US mainland hitting civilian soft targets like malls and public areas , mumbai style (a few gunmen can wreak havoc easily before SWAT come a calling).
- proxy iranian missile attack to israel and thus starting the bigger regional war , other arabic nations forced to side with iran or remain neutral and wont side with USA since they wont be seen as siding with israel.
- Russian supplied advanced radars and latest SAMs in iran will shot down the stealth bomber B2 and F22 in ashtonishment of US military commanders. Stealth will be broken in this war and Air campaign will be conducted in normal way. No more Silver Bullet.
- US bases all around persian gulf will be attacked by ballistic missiles and massive US casualties even before the ground war starts.
- when the ground war starts , it will be another level of hell for the US ground forces attacking iran, since it is a country that is bigger than iraq and more populous and fanatical. Endless suicidal attack by the iranian holy warriors will ruin US morale and will to continue fighting.
