This kind of fanatical devotion to Ron Paul needs to stop. Despite what you may believe he's not the Messiah. While I support some of his policies, he's not perfect. The fact is you should be excited about this. It means that Ron Paul is actually becoming a contender for the Republican nomination. Conan's just ahead of the curve. What are you going to do if he does actually get the nomination and then Stewart and Colbert are basing entire shows around making jokes about Paul?

In the last couple of years, I have developed a fanatical devotion to Ron Paul, and I'll readily admit it.
I never said he's the messiah or the second coming, but I TRULY believe he could be the last hope for America. He is one of the only senators (along with Kucinich) who is actively fighting the fed. The federal reserve has raped this country for 100 years. Paul also wants to stop all these insane wars that we're waging at every turn.. What else? Oh yea...he wants to preserve freedom and liberty for the people, and preserve the constitution.

For the posters who keep chastising me for "getting it wrong", I stand by what I said. The spoof ad was not only unfunny, it was a huge insult. Beyond the pale. More than 'making fun of Donald Trump's hair.'

Does this constitute lese-majeste, or blasphemy? Is Ron Paul a living god, or merely the annointed king? Perhaps he is somewhere in between, like the Prophet Muhammad--certainly, I have not seen anyone get so worked up over a comedian's "insult" since the last round of Muhammad cartoon riots.

What makes Iran a two year old? They are one of the oldest nations on Earth. The US is more like the two year old as they are a fairly new country.

Fellow ATSers...in my final post this evening I just want to say once more, that I fully understand the ad was satire. OK? I get it. I'm not wigging out. I'm just ticked off that Conan would air such an utterly tasteless, insulting ad. As my thread title states, it was a huge insult to the man.

To anyone who thought the ad was actually funny....to quote Krusty the clown:
"I could pull a better joke out of my arse."

Good evening all.

this thread is comedy gold. Noone bats an eyelid when he makes Cain jokes or anyone else. RP just gets the keyboard warriors into overdrive

I tend to think of myself as a hardcore Ron Paul supporter but even I know comedy is comedy. If you get insulted by comedians making fun of Ron Paul, you're taking the 'joke' way too seriously.

Do you guys even know how badly Herman Cain was ripped apart for his sex scandals by the comedic industry? I think Cain is a fraud but even I felt bad for him.

In the end, its a joke and if people rely on comedians to get their political news or form their opinions off of, you can't control it anyways, they're stupid. What can you do?

It's just because they know what he is up against and they know how these little suggestions wiggle their way into societies psyche. I know exactly how it will work because most of Conan's audience is in my age range. College kids will see this on t.v. and it will be the only thing in their mind of Ron Paul. They will go to a party and overhear a group of people talking about Ron Paul. They will want to join the conversation for attention, but all they will have to say is some extravagant, attention seeking, hyperbole about how Ron Paul is a lunatic idiot based only on the Conan sketch. Anyone who tries to argue intelligently will fired back at with more ignorant hyperbole. Someone else just standing in on the conversation that doesn't know anything about Ron Paul or have an opinion will adapt the one that is gets the most reaction, and the process will repeat.

I know.. I am college aged and I know how ignorance spreads. Small things can have big impacts. I personally didn't see it, and my scenario is dramatized, but a good example of how these things effect the real world. I can't say if it was sarcasm or not. Sometimes, if it is funny it helps. When I can watch it for myself I will give a real opinion.

As for Conan, I liked him best of the late night shows, but I honestly haven't watched or enjoyed it much since Andy Richter was originally on the show. Conan was there for the best years of the Simpsons though..

If you'd actually been WATCHING the show and not just "perusing ATS with the TV on" you'd see that it was a spoof of a real, out of the ordinary political ad by Ron Paul.

I'm a big Ron Paul fan but the freaking out needs to stop. I'm starting to think conservatives complain about their feelings being hurt just as much as liberal PC douches

I had to get one more post in before signing off. Cain is a joke as far as having the capability to be potus. A joke!
He'd need a 6th grade remedial geography course just to discuss the Middle East.
Lad, you cut me to the quick! I'm more than just a keyboard warrior...I'm actively campaigning for Ron Paul in my area. I don't try to "convert" people like some religious fanatic. I leave them a couple brochures. It's working.

That was pretty funny and absurd. If he would have said over 9000 the internet would worship him as a god and be his personal army.

Just watched it.. I retract my previous statement.

I just watched the ad.. I lol'd. This is not humor with an agenda.. I think this will actually make Paul more endearing to younger people. It was one of the funnier things I have seen from Conan in a long while.. and I may actually scope out his show again because of it.

OP you waaaay over dramatized this:

This is getting Paul's name out a lot more. How could any RP supporter not think this is hilarious? Lot's of talk show chatter and making him "hip" is what helped out Clinton remember? This is good IMO, better than him not mentioning him at all or actually trying to make him look bad.

Edit: I did read where Conan said Paul wanted to legalize heroin and prostitution which is B.S. and in the face of that the video does take on a different tone. Conan is educated so he knows that's not true and it could hurt Ron Paul.

Wow, were you people born yesterday or something? Conan doesn't write everything on his show, he has writers! Conan is just a mouth piece that occasionally improvises funny things inbetween. Snap out of it.

Well said, Domo. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if I could get the same message and same record from someone more easily electable (younger with boobs, maybe?), I'd probably be supporting them. This shouldn't be about Ron Paul, it's about what Ron Paul offers - even though Paul is a heck of a nice guy and I'm proud to support him.

I CAN somewhat understand the upset here, though. While it's a comedy/satire show, these shows can also slant opinion and could work negatively against Paul's shot here. That being said - it's to be expected, honestly. If Paul does keep moving along in the right direction, the supporters better batten down the hatches. Otherwise, like permanent rage face ALL THE TIME.

This is just like when someone gets upset with South Park.

"I use to LOVE South Park, but then they made fun of my favorite person, so now I hate them!"

Yawn.

I sure as hell didn't get all butthurt when South Park did the Manbearpig Al Gore episode (which, I am certain a lot of you really got a charge out of, right?).
