It is sad that some people just abuse the system...

Yet at the same time, I'm one of those people who use government assistance to survive in this wonderful world of civilized living. I couldn't afford the three bedroom apartment I have if I didn't get section 8, I wouldn't be able to feed my family if I didn't have food stamps, it would be a pain to stay warm during the winter without fuel assistance. The most I've ever made is $13 an hour and that's at my current place of work now. I've looked for better paying entry level jobs and I just can't find any. I tried college and screwed that up. I tried going to a trade school, but that fell through as well. Trying to make ends meet is now taking up too much time to be able to continue trying to make things better.

The government screwed our economy to high hell, so in my opinion, they should be taking care of the problem. I would love nothing more than to get off government assistance, I absolutely hate it. I hate having strangers coming into my place to inspect it and make sure everything is perfect. I hate the fear that if there's something wrong they don't like and it doesn't get fixed within a month when they come back that I would have to uproot my family and find a different home.

The government is the biggest reason I'm even practicing survival skills. It's because we allow others to dictate our lives that we have all these problems. War and violence with hunter gather societies is extremely rare. War and violence with governments in power is the norm. I want no part of that garbage. I just want to shelter myself and feed myself, without FEAR of being prosecuted and jailed by people who don't even know I exist until they catch me and tell me I have to goto jail because I didn't play their game and pay them for the privilege to feed and shelter myself.

The Earth belongs to everyone, owned by no one. I have just as every much right as the next person to exist on this planet, and I will exercise that right whether the government likes it or not.

This os what it looks like when you have a "trickle down" economy without realizing the obvious that nothing really trickles down and it only took thirty years.

I guess your a product of the system, living beyond your means...3 bedrooms and have to have the government help you..WOW.. how about 1 room, keep your pecker in your pants, since you cannot support them....a 1 bedroom is a lot less than a 3...let me guess you have to many things....well sell them, because things don't feed or shelter your family.
You get assistance for heating and I guess food stamps also. Well you are living the new American dream complements of those of us that CAN support ourselves...YOUR WELCOME...now I would ask you to get off the assistance but hey your comfortable right now so you don't need to.
I see you can be on the internet...thats a luxury item, I bet you have a smart phone too...Amazing.

You're right, I am the product of the system. A system that's failing it's people. A system that everyday takes away more of our god damned freedoms while we complacently sit by and allow it.

Yea, I could have kept my pecker in my pants, but you know what? I would rather have a family of my own to enjoy, raise and care for. I can't fit five people in one bedroom, and even if I could, if it were a large bedroom, some dick would call DSS on me.

I don't live beyond my means at all. We own next to nothing, living as much of a minimalist lifestyle as possible, and even the few luxury items we do own are from freecycle or from thing's given to us from family members. I would love nothing more to own the best computer system out there, but unfortunately I'm stuck with outdated trash. I don't have a landline nor my own internet, I'm currently stuck using an open wifi from one of my neighbors. I can't afford my own phone and internet. I do have a smartphone I bought a couple years ago because I need something for doctors and schools to contact me with. Even then, it's a pay as you go plan, if I don't have the money to pay for it, I go without it. The reasoning behind the smartphone was to utilize wifi to still call other people and for them to call me, which has had to happen more times then I'd like.

In no way shape or form am I living a comfortable life right now. Even with assistance and a $13 an hour job, I'm still having a piss of a time making ends meet. It's still hard to provide enough food, make my rent on time, pay my bills. If you think life is comfortable living on assistance, then you must have never needed to live that way before. It effin sucks, I hate it, it makes me feel degraded. Yet with how things are right now, life would be even harder without the crap. The government shot our economy to hell, and finding good paying jobs is still hard as hell. The government screwed everything up, then the government can fix it.

I appreciate you being so understanding towards my open honesty you effin dick.

I look around where I am and see lots of people here living off the system...I would have to say, that a large % of them are drunks and using drugs. The thing that pisses me off is...I saw with my own eyes, a female had a shopping cart full of all kinds of stuff...over $300..she had steak, shrimp, good cuts of steaks and all name brand boxes of food, lots of chips and dips...I actually was talking small talk to her...cuz her kid(about a year old was smiling and talking to me)..anyway, The food she was getting she said was for a big party for the football games tomorrow(sunday)..she also said that they have a party every week with several of her friends.
I said it sounds like fun ...she said its great...she was kinda flirting with me.. she also with chit chat informed me that she's single, she invited me to the party about the time she reached into her purse and took out the card!!! I saw that and I kept my mouth shut, and kindly turned down the invite with a BS excuse....
Anyway, I went through the check out right after her, got into the parking lot and she was about 4 cars away loading the trunk, It was a cadillac...and it wasn't very old!!!!
I said nice car, she said thanks and then we chatted for about 3-4 min, she was going to get the alcohol for the party and asked if I was sure about coming to the party, she said she would get me what I drink if I was going to be there...She wasn't bad looking, and I almost said yeah but I did decline the invite.

Now she was dressed nice, had a better vehicle than me, and appeared to have plenty for all the extras that she wanted....
now, how is that fair? its assistance not excessive cash flow!! I just don't get it.

See you think the government needs to fix it, ok sure, nice excuse, why don't you fix it and not blame it on everyone else...cuz what will you do when you get nothing? If you have 3 kids, and a wife/hubby...how about daycare, babysitting a few times a week for a little cash? how about getting up grabbing a hold of your boot straps and do what you need to for you!! You said before you had a section 8? whatever...excuses, excuses...be a man and take hold of your future with your own 2 hands and get it done!

After reading the article referenced by the OP I come back to the old saying, 'Give a person a fish, feed them for a day, teach a person to fish, feed them for life'
Simple yet complex to fix.

I still believe in personal responsibility and outside of my pay, id never ask for gov. assistance... just how I was raised... Getting welfare is evil.. I want to be a self made man, thats just me

this generation is a waste IMO... thats the biggest problem entitlement for no reason.... getting degrees for cursive in third grade isn't helping the situation (think deeper than just that) its the whole education system.. creating a nanny system by the time kids reach 8 years old

What happens when the government runs out of money?

No more welfare, no more Social security, no more Medicare... What happens to society?

People will have to go back to work.
