I dont think its necessarily a war cry, i mean, all the armed forces prepare for warfare, because thats training, but the press sensationalise it to make it look like they are looking for war.

Iteresting that the war rhetoric continues though, its almost like the media want to get everyone paranoid.

The media is a twisted game indeed. I wonder how anyone can work in the media and live with themselves - except those honest journalists who expose the truth. Otherwise it is all about money, like the rest of the power on this planet.

I blame the media for a lot of trouble in this world.

But something bothers me - if these people are so intelligent, why can't they see that twisting the truth will mean the end of our life on this planet, including themselves?

Drama and suspense sell.

Any time you pick something up from a mainstream media source, remember that. The industry competes for your viewership - are you going to click on the link (or snap your head up from the dinner table to hear) "China to step up PLA-N development" or "China readies for war?"

It's true of any media outlet to some degree or another. The televised news stations are the worst, as they have all of about two seconds to grab your attention and hold it for the remaining fifteen. Radio can go either way, but tends to be elaborated upon in talk shows with more details. The internet ranges from the best to the worst, depending upon who is writing/linking the article and what their purpose is.

Anyway - China will need a powerful Navy if they wish to expand their influence. It is horribly inadequate, honestly - and they rely largely upon American Naval superiority in the region to secure their shipping lanes (as well as Australian, Korean, and Japanese assets).

As their economy and interests expand, so will their Navy.

This will put them in greater tension with India - another, largely ignored, emerging superpower.

Im going to keep eating my funyuns, living in the most war harden country in the world. Good luck

it just to flex there muscles thats all. Nothing will come of it china gonna be the main money maker in a few years so it seams pointless attacking them now considering the USA is a major buying or chiniese products as are most european countrys, an attack any NATO country would be stupid and would harm there GDP and the imports to that country which in return would result in damaging chinas growth and they would not risk that especially at the rate the country is growing at. I think they would probaly attack US once they become the main ecomic country of the world, thats when they will have more power than the us and that is when they are more probaly likley to attack.

It's because such things create focal for ratings. It also boasts things for people to have "issues" with when elections come around for participating countries and entities. It therefore creates interest in the network when said elections come around, thus again going back to ratings and ratings get you the money.

Now, don't get me wrong...I will admit that any country which is publicly crying wolf is a bit of a head turner, but it's certainly not uncommon. Why shouldn't China be preparing for warfare, especially the navy? With the completion of their "bastardized" aircraft carrier, I'd venture to gather they're going to attempt to try staffing it. How effective the staff is will be another story.

Economically speaking everyone's at a point where they're almost "too broke" to go to war, that is not limited to the United States or European countries, China is also included in that group.

it has to be the UFOs, what else could explain the military budget of the USA.
with a thousand bases all over the world, most in countries where there is no visible enemy.
some are for internal political reasons, like guantanamo and Florida politics.

the chinese, iranians, north korean are reacting to the american threat, which then serves to justify the us military industrial complex budget.

it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

the USA's greatest enemy is it's own financial sector, it will be impossible to maintain the military when dealing with bankruptcy.

The irony as we all know is China could foreclose on America ............yesterday if it chose to. The US military is working to develop drones capable of taking off from US Navy aircraft carriers based in the Pacific. Analysts say the primary goal will be to confront China.

So sure it building up, China knows it, America knows it, Russia knows it, Australia knows it, France knows it, heck why on earth do you think NATO conducted its live exercise under real conditions. North Africa was a simple warm up to iron out all the bugs. The U.S. took a back seat to Africa as it requires time to restock and supply its forward units. Why on earth do you think the U.S. is pulling out of Iraq and Afghanistan ? , is it because its costing too much money...no its not. They, along with their allies are preparing for the showdown with China and Russia has hit top gear in all its government military projects to be finished and battle tested and ready before 2014-15.

That was my first thought as well. All military trains for warfare, if they did not, then they would be completely ineffective. China has more soldiers that most nations combined and they do have the wealth now to wage war, but still, they had a larger population and area than Japan, and look what Japan did to them. They are preparing for war, if they didn't they would be in danger. Just think, what would the military look like if they said they were not preparing for war, they would be attacked.
